Developing a Mobile Application for Wildlife of Qatar

1. Introduction
1.1 Topic area investigated
The topic area is focused on development of mobile application of wildlife of Qatar.
The main aim of this research study is assisting the users for learning about the wildlife
animals living in forest of Qatar. The importance of the study is developing wildlife app for
tracking wildlife protection within Qatar. There is also tracking of total number of animals
living in Qatar, their species types and habits of eating.
1.2 Specific research questions set out to answer
Based on the selected research title, following are research questions:
1. What are the functionalities of the developed mobile app for wildlife conservation in
Qatar?
2. What are the key advantages of the mobile app to provide environmental and wildlife
protection in Qatar?
3. How is social media useful to raise awareness towards natural animal habitat
violation?
1.3 Importance of question to answer
The above questions are important to answer to understand possible features or functions
of proposed app so that there is efficient protection of wildlife in Qatar. Advantages of the
app is discussed for leaning and understanding key benefits gained from the app. Benefits of
social media helps to encourage people on importance of environment
protection and animal life in Qatar. It raises awareness on violation
against the animal habitant.

1.4 Objectives of research
The objectives of this research study are:
 To assist the users while learning about animals living in Qatar
 To simplify design avatars of mobile app appeal to children and match with its
proposed design patterns
 To identify advantages of proposed mobile app by demonstrating its importance of
environmental and animal life protection in Qatar
2. Literature Review
2.1 Current research close to the research topic
The research topic is reflected on development of mobile application for wildlife in
Qatar. The paper aims to perform study on developing app for wildlife management so that it
can raise concerns for forest in Qatar. The literature study introduced advantages of the
mobile wildlife app to demonstrate importance of the environmental and animal life
protection in Qatar. Before developing the wildlife app for Qatar, there is review of the
history of wildlife in Qatar for better understanding importance in culture in addition to
history of the country. Galal et al., (2018) mentioned that wildlife is playing a key role for
balancing environment, therefore their protection is also important for forest department.
Importance of wildlife is also close to the study for identifying environmental importance,
monetary importance as well as conservation of the biological diversities. There is also
review on advantages of wildlife app by demonstrating its environment importance and
protection of wildlife. The main advantages are discussed as tracking wildlife movement,
upload of photos, animal visualization, conservation education and assistance to understand
animal response (Jones et al., 2015). Features of the app is discussed for better tracking of the

animals through its movements, view of information on present wildlife, track last seen date
of the animals and add images of the animals on the habitat. Finally, social media is helpful
for providing awareness towards natural animal habitant violation.
2.2 Different theories apply for specific area of research
In the research study, there is available of information on the wildlife management in
Qatar through going through wildlife protection information. Critical theory is used for
helping in design research questions, guiding to select data, interpreting data and proposing
explanation of causes. Liu, Yang and Yan (2015) discussed that it is a social theory generated
from critiquing as well as altering of society as a whole. Based on this study, society is
changing against wildlife protection. It aims to keep the human beings from true
understanding of how the world is being working. Information related to wildlife movement
are gathered in real time. The mobile app helps to increase in animal welfare as well as
benefits to scientific research. Through critical theory, the developed mobile application
helps to provide information on recognition of species as well as habitants. There is discovery
of natural antiquity of the animals, movements taken against animal violation as well as
social media consciousness of the animals checking system (Maffey et al., 2015). The
researcher should have skills to develop the application based on new features proposed for
tracking animals. There is progress of the technology would assistance the society to be
conscious of the natural habitat protection among the wildlife living in Qatar.
2.3 Areas of weakness currently highlighted
In order to promote proposed mobile app among public, local society and users, social
media is useful to raise awareness on natural animal habitat violation. While, the weakness is
that old people are not aware of using the social media, therefore there are no so much aware
of wildlife protection in Qatar. Therefore, in future, the researcher should think of other
medium or channel to aware people on animal protection, conservation of wildlife and

environment protection (Ahmed, 2018). Development of the mobile application is for
tracking movement of animals. In this study, there is highlighting of weakness on tracking of
positions of animals while there are lacks of behavioral observations of the wildlife animals.
It provides a research gap by giving lack of data as well as information on understanding
animal movement’s patterns. Emerging technology is expanded and applied towards the
anima conservation, therefore failed to understand this new technology will lead to forecast
key conservation outcomes included distribution of animals, interaction of the individuals as
well as species (Burt et al., 2017). In future study, those weaknesses are a concern for the
researcher.
3. Methodology
3.1 Type of study conducted
Focused on selection of research title “Mobile application for wildlife in Qatar”,
mixed method is suitable. Through this selected research study method, mixed approach is a
combination of both quantitative as well as qualitative data method. This method helped the
researcher to understand the problems identified in the research work. Through the
quantitative research work, there was testing of objectives of research work by examining of
relationships among them (Walliman, 2017). People of Qatar helped to gather data through
using quantitative research work. On the other hand, qualitative research work was performed
for understanding the individuals and groups to social problem. The data were collected from
the researcher in life of birds.
3.2 Methods chosen and justification
The research methods included research philosophy, research design, and research
approach and data collection method.

As research philosophy, positivism was selected for analysing hidden information and
data in systematic way. Due to limitation of timeframe, other methods were avoided, and this
philosophy was only limited to researcher’s role for data evaluation lead to minimize data
failures (Ramirez et al., 2015).
As research approach, deductive method was selected for getting concepts related to
mobile application development as well as design work. This method helped the researcher in
understanding practical application of theories to gain access towards content of the research
papers (Cuervo‐Cazurra et al., 2017).
As research design, descriptive was selected as it helped the researcher to explain the
advantages and benefits of mobile application for wildlife. There is better observation as well
as description of behavior of the subject without influencing its content (Taylor, Bogdan, &
DeVault, 2015).
Finally, primary data collection method was selected for collecting raw data from
research population those are people living in Qatar. The data were collected by conducting
online survey as well as interview (Quinlan et al., 2019). This method helped in clarifying
accessibility in addition to validity of gathered from research population selected for this
development work.
3.3 Details of population, sampling method
The total number of population taken for quantitative research study by conducting
survey are 141. People living in Qatar as well as a researcher were considered as sample
population of this study across Qatar. In order to conduct the qualitative research, researcher
in bird were considered for performing interview sessions. Considering mixed method, the
total population was considered as 142.

As a sampling method, random sampling probability method where there were no
such criteria selected.
3.4 Analyzing collected data
The collected data was analyzed using mixed method. People from Qatar were
considered for conducting quantitative data analysis so that the researcher can understand
usage of the mobile application for wildlife protection. The data were analyzed in form of pie
chart and tables. Qatar. The qualitative research study allowed the researcher to provide
detailed data analysis on better penetration of research study with chosen research title. The
design of proposed wildlife mobile application was done using SmartApps Creator. It is a
multi-media tool which helped the student in building application without required to have
any programming skills (Kotsopoulos et al., 2019). There is providing of mock up design of
app, layout of the designing application and testing the system prototype so that there is better
understanding of the app. The mobile application is supporting both iOS and
Android devices and it is an HTML5 web-based application.
4. Results
4.1 Overall description of data collected during the research
The collected data helped the researcher to implement theoretical knowledge into
practical application. From the responses of people through survey and interview, there is
better evaluation of mobile application. Data were collected based on gender and age group,
through these information, there is better understanding of demographics profile of the
research study. In order to understand the selected title in depth, data collected on platform
used to get reliable information about the wildlife of Qatar and usage of mobile application
for tracking location of the animals in Qatar. The data described that mobile app provides
information on recognition of species as well as habitants. There was discussion of people

awareness on wildlife protection, in form of gaining knowledge on biodiversity in education
as well as learning programmes. Education programme have encouraged the public of Qatar
to motivate them about the issues faced in protection of wildlife animals. Other than
education and learning programme, social media helped in awareness of importance of
wildlife protection.
4.2 Results of analysis done on the data
The total sample size for conducting online survey were 141, and among these
participants, 53.2% of them are female and 46.8% of them are male. Most of them are
between age group of 31-45 years. From collected data, it was analyzed that there are around
40.4% of respondents are neither agree nor disagree that mobile application helps to reduce
illegal activities of the wildlife conservation. Around 48.9% of participants responded that
technology can seek in conservation motivation so that there is awareness of animal
protection. According to 38.3% of the respondents, they were agreed that mobile app helpful
in tracking last seen date of the animals and adding images of the animals on the habitat. In
order to aware people about animal safety and wildlife protection, 55.3% of the respondents
are strongly agree that education as well as public awareness is required to get them
knowledge on biodiversity. Around 50.4% of the respondents used social media for getting
awareness of conservation. People are using Facebook, Twitter to get aware of wildlife
disaster and wildlife protection actions.
4.3 Significant findings from data
It was found that most of people used mobile application for tracking location of
wildlife animals. There is using of Smartphone (iOS/Android) platform to get reliable
information about the wildlife of Qatar as compared to TV, books and web browser. The
mobile application helped to search location of animals, and through it they can identify
illegal selling of animals and their products in other countries. Animal visualization helps for

investigating animal behavior, wildlife areas as well as guiding animal law enforcements. For
tracking the precise location of wildlife animals, signals from satellites will determine precise
location of animals. The featured mobile app provided with notification page allowed the
users or customers to alert them for any update on animal species. It was found that features
implemented in mobile app are smooth and easier for the uses to be used.
5. Discussion
5.1 Major findings regard to the research
Based on the research study, Smartphone (iOS/Android) platform is mostly used by
users to get information on wildlife animals in Qatar wild forest. Technology helps to build
interest of people in the environment education activities as well as conservation campaigns.
There is tracking of wildlife animals for reducing illegal activities of wildlife conservation.
Social media campaigns helped in people, users and society awareness about wildlife
conservation.
5.2 Findings related to other found in past
From past findings, it was seen that mobile application helped in tracking wildlife
movements so that there is lessen of deaths of animals. Losses of diversity lead to
disappearance of large mammals. The environmental department of Qatar is established with
legal as well as administrative mechanism to implement the biodiversity strategy of Qatar
state.
5.3 Explanation of results
Through development of mobile application, the researcher found that there is better
understanding movement pattern of wildlife animals through uploaded photos and images of
animals. The proposed mobile application has social media accounts so that they can raise

awareness of violation against the animal habitats. The mobile application can track the
animals 24*7, therefore the users can get data on each single movements of the animals.
6. Conclusion
6.1 Restate the research questions

the information of the wildlife animals present in specific area, track last seen date of the
animals and add images of the animals on the habitat.
The key advantages are tracking movement, upload of photos, animal visualization
and conservation education.
Social media helps public to aware of various program those are helpful to protect
environment in addition to wildlife protection. The photos uploaded in the Facebook, Twitter
helps to capture moments of moving animals.
6.3 Contribution made towards research work
Idea to conduct this research work will help users to get data on wildlife animal’s
movements. Technology helps to motivate the conservation awareness on wildlife animals.
