This report presents a qualitative study on friendship, utilizing thematic analysis of interview data collected from an individual named Trevor. The research explores the multifaceted nature of friendship, examining its importance, different forms, and the impact of various experiences on relationships. The study employs a semi-structured interview method and focuses on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to understand the meaning and experience of friendship. The findings reveal that friendship encompasses diverse forms, with some friends resembling family while others are primarily for social activities. The analysis highlights the role of emotions in friendships, the importance of maintaining relationships, and the impact of both positive and negative experiences. The study also discusses how individuals evaluate friendships and the significance of true friendship during challenging times, emphasizing the lessons learned from both positive and negative experiences in friendships. The report concludes by emphasizing that while disagreements are part of any relationship, those who value friendship will make sincere efforts to control situations.
