only for ensuring that the end result of the project is meeting the quality specified for the
clients as well as the requirement specified for the project. Therefore, maintaining quality
throughout the project is extremely necessary.
Outline of Issues to be discussed
The issues that need to be discussed in this regards through the presentation would be
as follows:
The changing culture in the business or corporate sectors with time and the
realization of the quality management by departments.
The resistances that business organizations and the quality management
department often face due to the technological innovations.
The unwillingness of the upper management for providing additional time and
resources and the consequences faced for that
The complexity that the quality management phase often experiences in the
Supply Chain.
Unusual terms
However, I have often experienced that people tend to often get confused between the
topic of Quality Management and Quality Assurance. It needs to be cleared out about the
topic of Quality Control and Quality Assurance as they both are separate terms altogether.
Quality Control is all about evaluating the project to find out if the project meets the quality
standards. Where on the other hand, the term quality assurance means the ensuring of the
product to be produced in the right way.

Discussion
Issues from the intro slide
Culture of Quality Management by department: Since the age old ideas regarding
the existing corporate culture, it is always perceived that the topic of quality
management is only related to the Quality Management Department. This idea needs
to be changed, since any effort taken at the quality management should not be
restricted only to the specific department but it should be an initiative taken
throughout the entire organization. This would encompass all the likely aspects of the
organization starting from the CEO to the maintenance crew.
Resistance to the technological Innovation: The innovation in technological aspects
is often found to be resisted from the other managerial aspects of an organization,
especially at the times when they are implemented for improving the product or
service qualities. We have seen an incidence from the quality management case as
conducted by David Sandstorm and Marcus Svanberg. The issue was raised about
resistance from the upper management in embracing the changes and innovations in
the organization of EDB Card Services AS for improving the product and service
quality. However, the implementation was only to focus on the improvement of the
quality for the card services.
Unwillingness of the upper management to provide additional time and
resources: If we talk about the same incident, it can also be addressed that the upper
management was more concerned about the problems faced in the day to day business
operations than the overall improvement of the organization and its service quality. It
is for this reason that the upper management resisted the innovative change as they
were not ready to provide additional time and resource to the quality management
team to understand the need for quality improvement of services. It is for this reason

that the upper management body did not acknowledge the implementation of quality
department.
Increasing complexity in Supply Chain: The evolving manufacturing trends have
made the organizations expand into new regions where they can leverage lower
production costs and higher availability of raw materials and qualified manpower.
Therefore, for the supply chain, the logistics become a nightmare in case of the
management of quality of the entire product produced since they are at the
responsibility of supplying the raw materials.
From this very case, we could see that the failure in acknowledging the required changes
in the system for the organization to implement a quality management system for the
improvement of quality for products and services is needed in every step of the project right
from the initiation phase or it could actually result into the failure of the entire project.
Periodic recapitulation
Thus from the discussion as before, we understand that there is indeed a need for
implementation is extremely essential or it can ultimately result in the project being a huge
failure. There are various tools related to the assurance of Quality Management that we
would discuss later in the presentation.

Why is Quality Management Required?
As we have discussed before, it is extremely essential that quality management is
maintained at every stage of a particular project since the quality of a project is extremely
necessary at the end stage of a project. This is necessary as the end product should always

meet the requirements of the project planning as per the needs of the clients. The proper or
appropriate quality management is only maintained when Quality Management tools are
implemented to evaluate the quality of the product at every stage or phase of the project.
How can we assure Quality Management?
There are various tools available that ensure the quality management in a certain
phase of a project. One of the tools that I would like to discuss in this phase of the
presentation is the Fish Bone Diagram tool or the Cause and Effect diagram which is also
known as the Ishikawa diagram tool. The diagram has the left side of it specified to list the
root causes behind a problem where these are later divided into major cause categories. The
identified causes are placed in the appropriate cause categories as per the diagram build.
The right side of the diagram mostly lists the effects of the causes written as the
problem statement which are generated because of the trying for the identification of the
causes.
The diagram looks like the skeleton of a fish, which is where the fishbone name
comes from.
How is the tool reliable?
The tool is reliable for various reasons. I would like to list them as below:
It helps in drawing the major cause categories.
It helps in drawing a problem statement out of the identified causes behind the
quality lack.
It helps the Quality Management department to clarify the causes behind the
problems.

Conclusion
Towards the ending of the presentation:
So here now we come to the last leg of the presentation to the topic of Quality
Management and the appropriate tools required for the same. The root cause of the problem is
thus identified with the tools like a fishbone diagram that has been explained in this case. We
would now conclude the presentation by summing up what we so far gathered from the
presentation.
Summarizing the main points
We have so far discussed about the Quality Management Plan, the needs to do so and
one of the required tools utilized for the purpose. I would like to address that in the first leg of
the presentation, we have addressed the Quality Management plans and its reason behind a
project. We have also addressed the issues that most organizations face while adopting the
Quality Management Plans and the ways by which they are implemented within the daily
operational tasks within the organization. In addition to that, there are also examples
presented to show how there has been failure in organizations when they failed to
acknowledge the utility of innovation in operations as a result of the Quality Management for
enhancing the quality of the end products in any project. Along with these discussions, there

easier for organizations to look out for the problems in the business operations and further
analyze their effects to initiate a better system in the organization.
Final messages
Finally I would like to repeat myself by saying that all kinds of organization,
irrespective of the industry they belong in, should implement a Quality Management Plan
associated with relevant tools and technologies to make sure that the end product or services
presented to the clients are of top notch quality. This would ensure absolute customer
satisfaction and needless to say, this would only enhance the reputation and the business of
the organization and customer engagement, customer loyalty, customer retention and more
infiltration of potential customers.
Question from the audience and their opportunity
I also would like to thank the people in the audience who have added their valuable
questions to my presentation program clarifying about the utilization of the tools used in the
Quality Management Plan. This would only enhance the quality of the presentation more by
addressing to the solution for the issues that I have mentioned. Through the tools, the
organization itself can figure out the issues in the project progression and would implement
necessary measures to tackle all the issues that have a negative impact to the end product or
services provided by an organization to their customers.
