QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN THE PROJECT
Introduction
Maintenance of the quality is important for the proper outcome of the project. It has
been seen that there are certain processes for maintaining the quality of the process and
project. There are different components in the project. It can be said that the improvement of
the components in the project can improve the overall quality of the project (Baumann et al.,
2016). There are different quality management standards described in the different project
management knowledge body. The selection of the project quality standards is dependent of
the type and the requirements of the project. Apart from that marinating the quality of the
deliverables is essential for maintaining the overall quality of the project (Joslin &
Müller,2015). It has been seen that there are other different aspects those are related to the
quality of the project such as consumer satisfaction and maintaining the goodwill of the
organization.
The paper will evaluate different aspects of the quality management for the proper
compilation of the project. Apart from that the significance of maintaining the quality for the
right outcome of the project can be described with context of different failed and successful
projects.
Research Framework
Aim:
The main aim of this research is to understand the different aspects of quality in the
project. Apart from that maintaining the quality in the project is also important topic for this
discussion. In order to do this the mention of different failed and successful projects has been
done in the paper.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN THE PROJECT
Objective:
The main objective of the paper is to evaluate different aspects of the quality along
with maintaining the mitigation of the risks. In this context, the use of the different tools and
techniques has mentioned in the discussion. In order to understand the significance of
maintaining the quality of the project the mention of the DeepWater horizon case is used.
Apart from that the mention of the other failed project like Queensland Health Care system
can be mentioned in order to understand the importance of the maintaining the quality.
Research method:
Qualitative method: In the qualitative method, the analysis of the theoretical aspects
can be done through evaluation of the different papers and articles. The conclusion can be
drawn from the different findings in the paper.
Quantitative method: In the quantitative method, the analysis and the evaluation of the
numerical aspects of the data can be done in order to find the conclusion of the research. The
statistical analysis of the charts and the numerical data can be done in this case.
Selection of the research method in this paper:
The selection of the research method in order to know the different aspects quality
management can be done from gathering the information from different articles. In order to
do this the selection of the different peer reviewed articles have been used (Liu, Wang &
Chua, 2015). The justification of using the qualitative research method for this research is
that the information gathered from the journals and articles will provide the significance of
maintaining the quality for the projects.
Importance of the quality and discussion regarding quality related issues:
It has been seen that there are different aspects related to the management of the
project. One of the main aspect is maintaining the quality of the project (Ashuri, Jallan &

QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN THE PROJECT
Lee,2018). It has been seen that most of the project managers do not think to be concerned
about the quality of the project. Rather they focus on maintaining the life cycle of the project.
It has been seen that the quality control is related with the risks associated with the
development of the project. In case, if the quality control of the project is not done in a proper
way, there is a chance that the possible risks can be faced by the project. In this case, the
example of the Queensland Health care project can be mentioned. It has been seen that the
compilation of the project was done in a very short time span. In that case, the quality of the
project was not maintained properly. As a result the project was failed because of incorrect
payments to the employees. Another example of the project failure due to the lack of the
quality is the DeepWater Horizon project (Doneva, Gaftandzhieva & Totkov, 2016). The
quality of the cement base at the rig was not proper. The base of the cement could not act as
the protector during the busting of the natural gas. This led to the disaster which is known as
the oil spill case.
It has been seen that the consumer satisfaction is also related to maintaining the
quality of the project. In case, if the product does not maintain proper standard and the quality
there is a chance that the consumers may not accept the product in a proper way (Ceptureanu
et al., 2017). This can lead to the failure of the product and will have the negative effect on
the organization.
There are various factors on which the quality of the product is depended. It has can
be said that the overall improvement of the quality standards can be done through the
improvement of the components related with the development project of the product. In this
case, the quality of the resources is needed to be concerned (Carvalho & Rabechini Junior,
2015). Apart from that the analysis of the requirements is needed to be done in a proper way.

Technical issues: Due to not maintaining the quality of the products in a proper way,
there is a chance that certain technical issues can be raised. In the digital era most of the
organizations are adopting the digitization in the organization (Hyatali & Fai Pun, 2016). The
implementation of the digital disruption can be treated as the project in this case. If, the
requirements of the digital disruption is not evaluated in a proper way and the standards for
the technical implementation is not proper, there is a chance that the digital disruption may
not deliver the right outcome.
Managing the changes in the management process: The starting of the new project
may requires the changes in the management process. There can be certain quality issues
regarding the changes in the management process (Whyte, Stasis & Lindkvist, 2016). There
is a chance that the implementation and the development of the project is not carried out in a
proper way. Apart from that the project may not deliver the right outcome after the
deployment. These are the certain risks in the change process of the management (Kerzner &
Kerzner, 2017). However, maintaining the quality of the process and the projects can mitigate
all these problems through delivering the right outcome with desired requirements.
Resources: The quality of the resources is needed to be maintained in a proper way.
The outcome of the project is dependent on the quality of the resources. Apart from that the
resources are needed to be relevant with the project.
Presence of the third party: The quality management is dependent on the managing
the third party involved in the project. In case, if the third party involved in the project is not
maintained in a proper way there is a chance that the quality issues cannot be handled in a
proper way. In this context, the incident of the DeepWater Horizon can be mentioned (Buba
& Tanko, 2017). It has been seen that after the incident, when the investigation was taking

place different stakeholders involved in the project were blaming each other. This indirectly
implies that quality was not maintained by any of the stakeholders in the organization.
Lack of communication: The quality issues can be raised due to the lack of
communication. It has been seen if the communication between the organization and
management is not maintained in a proper way, there is a chance that the project quality is not
managed (Silver et al., 2016). Apart from that the employees in the organization cannot make
the management known about the problems in the organization that leads to the serious
quality issues. In case of DeepWater Horizon there was a gap in the communication. The site
engineers were aware about the poor quality of the cement base. However, they did informed
that issue to the higher authority that led to the devastating incident.
For managing the quality of the project, different quality control tools and techniques
can be implemented. According to Leonard, (2019) the controlling of the quality will help to
make the consumers loyal towards the organization. Apart from the wastage of the resources
can be reduced along with the mitigation of the overhead inventory cost through controlling
the quality of the project.
Management of the project quality and its impact on the product development:
The quality management can help the organization to achieve some of the necessary
factors. These factors are-
Consumer satisfaction: The customer satisfaction can be achieved through the
maintaining and the improvement of the quality of the project (Keskin, Ozorhon & Koseoglu,
2019). In case, if the clients are getting services with quality and standards they are going to
prefer the services from the organization for several times. In this situation the business of the
organization will be expand and along with the increase in the profit or revenue.

Taking measures regarding the prevention over inspection: There is a need for the
capital investment for maintaining and monitoring the quality of the project and the product.
In order to determine the quality issue the cost of quality can be applied for the determination
of the cost needed for the implementation and monitoring of the quality (Haq et al., 2018).
There are two parts in the cost of quality- cost of conformance and cost of non-conformance.
The cost of conformance are the cost those are related to the activities those will be
helpful for controlling the quality of the project. This includes giving proper training to the
employees in the organization, implementation of different quality standards in the
organization. On the other hand the cost of non-conformance is related to managing the
damage that has occurred as the proper quality is not maintained.
Use of tools and techniques for the continuous improvement: The managing of the
quality is important for the development of the project. It has been seen there are certain
processes through which the quality can be controlled. Maintaining these steps in a proper
way needs the tools and techniques for controlling the quality. In this case, the application of
the six sigma can be adopted. The sig sigma is the practice that will help the project to
maintain the quality in a proper way (Gong et al., 2018). Apart from that this standard is
approved by different governing bodies around the world. Another quality control measure is
Total Quality management. This is another technique that will help the organization to
manage the quality of the project in a proper way. The selection of the quality control
measures can be based on the types and the size of the project.
Implementing project quality management:
Planning: The first phase of the project quality management is the identification of the
areas where the quality management is needed to be implemented. After the identification of

the areas , the planning for managing the quality can be done. The planning g can be done
through the daily meetings and discussion regarding the development of the project.
Assuring the quality: The assurance of the quality can be done through the application
of the different quality standards like ISO. Generally, all the quality assurance standards
ensures that systematic activities are followed for the development and the implementation of
the project.
Controlling the quality: Certain rules and regulations are needed to be followed for
controlling the quality of the project. It can be regarded as the monitoring processes for the
evaluation of the implemented quality for the project. It has been seen for the DeepWater
Horizon case there was a lack of maintain the quality (Padalkar & Gopinath, 2016). As there
was no proper way for the communication the managing of the quality of cement base was
not implemented in a proper way that led to the incident.
In order to ensure the quality in the organization, the resources and deliverables are
needed to be checked in a proper way. Apart from that the feedbacks from the clients are
needed to be taken so that the further improvements can be done on the basis of the feedback
Analysis of findings:
The analysis of the findings denotes that maintain the quality for the project is as
important as maintain the project life cycle during the development of the project. For
maintain the overall quality of the project, maintain the quality of all the components used in
the project is needed to carry out. Apart from that there is a need for monitoring the quality of
the resources and the deliverables (Belvedere et al., 2019). In order to process the quality
implementation properly, certain standards are needed to be maintained. Apart from that
different quality control practices can be helpful in this context.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN THE PROJECT
It has been seen that the project managers are aware about maintain the quality of the
project and the products, however, they do not pay much attention to manage the quality
(Kermanshachi et al., 2018). Most of the managers include the management of the quality
with the other modules of the project management which do not cover all the aspects of the
quality management.
Not maintaining the quality in a proper way, there are certain problem those can be
faced by the project. In case of the DeepWater Horizon the oil spill incident took place. On
the other hand in the Queensland Health care project the quality parameters were not
followed in a proper way. This led to the failure of the project. The project managers are
needed to be aware about the importance of managing the quality while the development of
the project. In this context, the following of the different standards can be done so that the
assessment of the quality can be done properly.
Conclusion
The paper has discussed about the different aspects of the quality. It can be said that
quality maintenance in the project is important and there are specific stages for the
implementation of the quality in the organization. In order to do this different tools and
techniques can be used. Maintaining the quality can provide the project to fulfil all the
desired outcome of the project. It has been seen that maintain the quality also increase the
consumer satisfaction and the customers can get loyal to the organizations which are
providing them with the right service. On the other hand it can be said marinating the quality
will give the project different advantages from the different aspects. Apart from that it has
been seen that proper quality of the project will give the organization a competitive advantage
as it will improve the consumer satisfaction. The goodwill of the organization can also be
increased from maintaining the quality of the project.
