Homework Assignment
AI Summary
This assignment delves into quantitative research designs employed to drive changes in nursing practice, specifically highlighting the survey research design. The student explains the application of survey research, particularly cross-sectional surveys, in assessing patient beliefs, attitudes, and the demand for patient-centered care versus deluxe medical facilities. The assignment further elucidates the difference between statistical and clinical significance using a case study on fatigue treatment, demonstrating how statistically significant results do not always equate to clinical significance. The student provides an example involving a drug and placebo, illustrating how statistical significance is determined by p-values, and the practical implications of treatment outcomes in real-world scenarios. The assignment is well-structured and includes relevant references to support the arguments.

1QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH DESIGN IN NURSING PRACTICE
Question – 1
The chosen quantitative research design that used to support changes in nursing
practice is the survey research design. Survey research design is used to quantitatively survey
of a sample of entire population to recount the behaviors, opinions, attitudes or characteristics
of the overall population. Survey research design is not like the experimental research design.
In survey designs treatment procedure is not involved, only the overview of the participants
will be necessary. Survey research can be used in three ways such as describe trends,
individual opinions and individual’s beliefs and attitudes. Now individual believes that kind
of specific quantities research design which can be used to modify in nursing practice
(DiCenso, Guyatt & Ciliska, 2014). Certain researches are shown that individuals are loss
their faith and fairness upon the nurse. Hence a cross sectional survey should be performed to
assess if the patient beliefs the nurse or not. The research should be performed on the basis of
patient centered care. In a hospital if patients will get person centered care by the honest
approaches of certain nurses then in another hospital patient will get all type of deluxe
facilities except respect and dignity. Now it has been seen that people who get minor respect
and dignity they were unsatisfied. However the unsatisfied people has get very much comfort
by the nurses. Now the patients who have get person centered care were very much satisfied ,
even they did not get any type of deluxe facilities
Hence it can be estimated that a cross sectional survey has shown that patient centered
approaches are more demandable than those deluxe medical therapies which are lack of
patient centric care (Curtis, Comiskey & Dempsey, 2016). This type of survey deign is
helpful to measure present attitudes and current information regarding to recent market
demand. By the cross sectional design one can examine the opinion of the most required
caring service. Also this type of quantitative research will help to compare two or more

groups of patient having nursing care. Hence the cross sectional survey in nursing has
provided important information that can be used as a decision maker. It can also be seen that
large amount of patient can also be assessed by this cross sectional survey (Ingham-
Broomfield, 2014).
Question – 2
Clinical significance denotes the importance of practical effect if it has a real,
justified, obvious and noticeable effect on daily life, where the statistical significance is
governed by the p-value. If the differences between two groups in any case study shows the
value of p is less than 0.05 than it will be said that the outcome is statistically significant
(Papathanasiou, Tsaras & Sarafis, 2014).
There are two groups of fatigue people taken for a case study, where 1000 people are
present in each group. Now, a drug ‘’energylina” that helps to relief fatigue were given to the
first team. Then placebo were given to the rest thousand people. Neither the researchers nor
the participants were known about that rest thousand were given placebo. Then all the
participants were subjected to monitor for three weeks. Now after three weeks it has observed
that 90 percent people of first group improved by 2 digits in the fatigue measurement scale
and 80 percent of the second group took placebo has improved by 1 digit on the scale. Hence
it can be concluded that the differences between the groups was statistically significant ,
where the value of p is <0.05. It means that after three weeks participants taken real
medicines were significantly less tired than those in the placebo taken group (Ingham-
Broomfield, 2014).
