Use of quantitative research design to improve quality in care and health
outcomes
Diverse research methods in the healthcare industry are employed for improving customer
satisfaction, patient disease prevention and safety facilities. Quantitative research is being
used by hospitals which gives a fair idea of scope for improvement in a hospital setup.
Statistical, numerical or mathematical findings are provided for quantitative studies
(Shoyana, 2011). However, the ultimate success depends on the perspective of the patients
and the behavioural pattern of the healthcare professionals in general in the context of the
organisation. There are many different methods to conduct quantitative research based on
marketing ideas that enhance services and behavioural impacts in medical institutions. Pain
management is one of the areas of interest. Health facilities know that many of their clients
who require services suffer from pain or discomfort. By using quantitative studies for patient
investigations, physicians can find out how happy they are with their service.
At the time of entry and release from hospital a pain and discomfort study may be carried out
among patients. The study includes a questionnaire, and these questions are to be answered
by patients without hesitation or prejudice. The findings of the study are fed into a computer
and evaluated statistically in order to understand the cause of the problem if any, the areas of
concern and suggestions for improvements of the facilities including quality of the healthcare
professionals.
