1IMPACT OF RACISM ON INDIAN STUDENTS
Part: A
In Australia, one of the most common problems is racism. Present Australia is the
product of migrated people from Ireland and the UK. In most of the community of Australia,
the issue of racism is present. Large numbers of Indian people stay in Melbourne. The
Australians living in Melbourne are racially motivated against the Indian. Indian students are
the largest group of international students pursuing their degree from Australia (Paltridge,
Mayson and Schapper 2014). These students are facing discrimination and exploitation in
Australia.
The Indian student, named Nitin Garg, was murdered in Melbourne. This incident was
the result of racism. A 15-year-old teenager from Melbourne stabbed the Indian student in a
park. Because of his age, the teenager could not be identified. Justice Paul Coghlan sentenced
to jail to that teenager for 13 years. According to Justice Paul Coghlan, this type of crime was
spontaneous, and the sentencing task was a difficult thing to do. Two friends of that teenager
were sentenced to jail for helping this incident. After scrutinizing the whole investigation,
Justice Paul Coghlan said that the reason behind these types of fatal accident could not be
explained. Mr. Garg was an innocent man who was the random victim of this incident. On
that day, that teenager with the help of his friends tried to take the phone of Nitin Garg in that
park. That teenager stabbed Mr. Garg because of his resistance. Being injured, Nitin Gorg ran
to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and died in the next morning. That teenager after the attack
went to his home and watched a movie. The following day that teenager was informed about
the death of Mr. Garg (Lowe 2019).
The solution to this type of fatal accident is essential to find. The Government of
Australia should take strict action against this racism culture and this type of fatal accident.
To decrease the racism against the Indian students, the government of Australia must

organize awareness camp against racism. To eliminate the racism issue, the government of
Australia developed a National Anti-Racism Strategy. The focus should be on proper
education, public awareness, the campaign against racism, and youth engagement programs
to encounter the racism issue. Consultation program among the Australian citizen will help
the government to understand their view and opinion about this racism issue. The government
gives priority on education, sport, online communications, workplaces, services provided by
the government and the media.

Part: B
Racism can take place anywhere. Because of colour, national origin, and ethnicity,
racism can create injustice, biases, intolerance, and hatred behaviour to the other people.
Australia is a culturally diverse country. The racism issue affects not only one or two-
person but also workmates, neighbours, friends. In a society where racism is present, people
cannot trust and admire each other. Word, belief, and action is a part of racism. It creates a
barrier, which blocks people from enjoying nobility and equality because of their colour and
origin (Arambewela and Hall 2013).
People do not get the concept of racism by birth. Through learning, this concept is
acquired. In Australia, some group of people believes that they are superior to others because
of race. This belief of superiority associated with race can lead these groups of people to

racial hatred. Most of the citizen of Australia has accepted the cultural diversity of the
country.
Racism creates a negative impact on those persons, who are the victim of racism. This
issue affects person, group or society. Racism creates vast psychological effects on the young
generation of Australia. Psychological impacts refer to the feelings of violence, sadness,
depression, and mistrust. The idea of freedom, equality, and dignity are affected by racism.
The Impact of racism on Australia, which is a culturally diverse country, is dangerous for the
citizen of the country. The economy of this country will be affected by the impression of
racism (Nelson and Dunn 2013).
The government of Australia created a three-year strategy to eliminate this racism
issue. The National Anti-Racism Strategy focused on reducing this issue by sufficient
education, sport, healthy workplace, the media, anti-racism campaign, and several anti-racism
workshops. The Australian government has to take several strict decisions to encounter the
racism issue. For the better future of Australia, this issue must be eliminated.
