Section 2- HCPC and SoR in professional practice
The health and care professional council is an organization which regulates the health
professionals, psychological professionals and the care professionals in the United Kingdom.
The council normally set standard, hold a register and educate about the quality assurance and
also do the investigation of the problem. They do the regulation of different fields including art
therapy, biomedical science, clinical science, dieticians, radiography, social work, speech
therapy, language therapy and speech therapy (Rosenkrantz, Hughes & Duszak Jr, 2017).
According to HCPC in the professional practice of radiography, the registered radiographers
must be-
The radiographers must be able to practice safely and also effectively and that also within
their scope.
They must be able practice within the range of legal and ethical boundaries of their
profession.
The radiographers must be able to maintain the proper fitness of the practice.
They can be able to practice autonomously by exercising their own judgement of their
profession (Rosenkrantz et al., 2017).
They can practice in a manner without any discrimination and they should understand the
importance and must also maintain the confidentiality.
They can able to communicate and work effectively.
They must able to maintain the records, reflect and review on the practices and the most
important thing is to understand the need to maintain an environment of safe practice
(Sloane & Miller, 2017).

The SoR or the Society of Radiographers is the union of trade or can be said as the professional
body for the radiographers and also for the members who are non-medical of the workforce in
the diagnostic imaging and the radiography in the United Kingdom. The society is fully
responsible for the educational, professional, workplace and public interests. The society is
completely open to the clinical imaging, radiotherapy and also the oncology throughout the
whole world. The benefits of the society is that gaining the access to a different set of special
interests groups which completely focuses on the special areas of radiology (Parikh, Harolds &
Bluth, 2017). The society invite the members to a forum which allow them to share their
information among themselves and also collaborate with other members. The objectives of the
SoR are given below:
To promote and do the development for the benefits of public in the science and in the
practice of radiography.
To do the promotion and the research study radiography and the radio-therapeutic
technology (Casanegra, McBane & Bjarnason, 2017).
To educate the public therein regarding the radiography.
To promote and protect the honour and the interests of those persons who are very much
engaged in the practice of the radiography and also in the allied subjects for regulating
the relations between such persons and the associations of the employee (Nightingale,
Hardy & Snaith, 2018).
The scope of practice of the radiographers increases after following the policies of HCPC
and SoR. According to the researches done on the HCPC and SoR policies, it is evidenced
that the radiographers are seriously benefited from these policies. After this assessment, I
have become very proficient in detecting the changes in the condition of the patient at a very

early stage, in monitoring or following the courses of events and also they decide exactly at
what time the examination of the patient must end. However not only me, all the
radiographers suffer the problems of competencies regarding the skills and development. The
medico-legal issues that I should follow includes the expanded discussions on the evidences,
updated information on the certification and the credentialing. New discussions on the
morality, ethics and the law, deontology, right to autonomy, confidentiality, euthanasia and
humanistic health care. The policies of HCPC and SoR have enhanced the understanding
about the different procedures of radiography very clearly (Casanegra, McBane & Bjarnason,
2017). After clearly understanding about the policies and the medico legal issues, the
imaging procedures by using radiography techniques has enhanced much more than it was
before. These policies are going to help me a lot on future, in practising the radiology
techniques without any discrimination, in promoting the techniques of radiology and to
educate the public involved in the radiography techniques. All these policies will help a lot in
future as in future I want to work as radiographer only. In my workplace also, the techniques
of radiology can be applied for capturing better radiographic images of the patient so that
their treatments cam be done effectively.
Section 4 - Mentoring
While developing a new ability, like any work or any research work any experience
person is needed for giving good advice, good support and obviously good mentorship. The
involvement of me as a mentor helped in increasing the learning process, identify different
efficient ways of doing the work and which results in improving the efficiency of the work. This
had helped in determining the reflection, in determining whether the required and the adequate
performance has been achieved or not.

While acting as the mentor at first the members were communicated properly, the
expectations and also the feedbacks were discussed. The feedbacks are obviously different from
different people. A proper boundary was set so that all the necessary works are done within
proper time and within proper limit. I had set up a proper and appropriate goal for the activity. In
the given case, the mentoring of an audit was done in the general hospital for men and women
where the radiographic images were marked properly with a marker. For doing this work, 200
images were collected from total 101 patients. Before taking the images of radiography, the
mentor thoroughly instructed the radiologists about the different procedures to take images. The
radiologists were made to know every details about radiology. Out of the 200 radiographic
images, 44 images had the marker that actually matched with the principle beam. 144 of the
images contained correct digital marker. I had to face a lot of challenges as well as advantages
when I became the mentors (Piper et al., 2016). The personal and the professional benefits that
the mentors earned from this mentoring activity would help them further in future in mentoring
other radiographic activities. Although the mentor had to face a number of challenges while
doing this activity like increasing in the work pressure, this experience had also enhanced or
increased the skills of teaching and mentoring among the members. The increase in the skills of
mentoring have increased the continuing professional development. Another challenge that the
radiographers faced was the time required for completing the whole task of mentoring than it
was expected previously (Kostrubiak et al., 2017). After completing the clinical assessment it is
clear on the grounds on which improvements are needed in order to improve as an excellent
radiographer. The mentoring skills and the management skills need to be learnt properly in order
to become an excellent professional radiographer. I have to spend a lot of time in order to learn
the mentoring skills and the management skills (Kostrubiak et al., 2017).
