The head of the commissioner Brenda Lucki stated that the Mounties in the rural areas
made it difficult for other women. As a result, Regina will not be able to establish 50 percent
of gender equality. The fact states that the Royal Canadian Mounted police are primarily rural
based so it becomes difficult for the cross examinations in cases of enquiry relating to the
murder of the Indigenous women in Regina. As per the trends between the year of 2016-2017
one in five RCMP members are women and the force hired a number of 22 percent women.
Whereas the ratio of the hiring of the Toronto police is 48 percent (McKenna, 2020).
Therefore, it will not be fair to compare the Toronto police that is urban based with the
RCMP that is rural based. However, Beth Symes, the council for Pauktuutit questioned Lucki
about the comparison in the hiring practices. As per the council, she needs to change the
pattern of policing. According to Lucki RCMP shall be more diverse and they shall work as
the representative of the indigenous population. Synes opposed Lucki and stated her to
rethink the recruiting approach as per her women are do policing more effectively.
