I am Sephora Mut and my partner is my elder sister, Mgaly Kon. She is 28 years old and I
read books to her because of her interest in this area. I have chosen her as my reading aloud
partner because she likes to read a lot and it would be convenient for me because we both live
in the same house. We read for 12 days, beginning from 23rd September for half an hour daily
from 6:30 pm to 7:00 pm. We performed this activity at home and I got the books online for
the sessions.
2. How did your relationship change as you went along? What did you learn about that
person that you did not already know? Has your partner’s attitude toward reading
changed?
In the initial stage I had a thought that one of the highly known idea is that any text written
for children must be bring up some moral values or teachings for the reader. So, I chose a
didactic book, which was “Cat in the Hat” by Dr Seuss. I was hoping that there would not be
much of informative rather we expected that it would be exciting or playful. We were
expecting some thrill however towards the end there was absent mother who came back home
and cat got disappeared. Throughout the book story, there was a perception of the kids to be
highly mischievous, however towards the end of the book, it was realized that even if they
got involved into mischief they are still good kids (Seuss 56). There had been instances of
breaking of rules by the children however they never crossed major boundaries. Even though,
earlier my sister liked to read, but towards the end of the session she had developed the liking
for reading out loud. The read aloud discussion were later highly focussed on making
inferences and predictions. Each few paragraphs, we would stop and prompt the other to turn

With the constant sessions of read aloud, I noticed that there was high level of engagement
shown by my sister. Earlier she did not devote much time to me and we had very less
discussions, but after this session, we had regular discussions even after the session. Since we
both live in the same house therefore there was punctuality and we showed our eagerness by
starting the sessions on time. After this activity, she had a change in perspective regarding
independent reading in school. It kept me engrossed and many times we wanted to keep
reading. After this it was made sure that we both would take out time to read at home. It has
now become a habit to read out loud and this has made our bond much stronger, and
enhanced our capacity to focus and pay attention.

attitude changed toward reading, especially read aloud?
By this session, my perception completely changed as I realized that the discussions created
by reading aloud can be utilized by the listener for constructing meanings, connecting ideas
and experiences. Even I could use my expressions in highly influential way and development
of adaptive expertise. It also helped me to learn to read smoothly and in building fluency
capacities, confidence as well as continuity. By reading out loud, my partner was able to
comprehend what I was reading and even I was able to listen back to my own voice. Hearing
my voice assisted me in identification of my unique writing voice and cultivated internal
listening skills. The diction was improved along with expressions and I could imagine the
story in pictorial form in my mind. By this session, I also gained confidence regarding my
spelling awareness.

It has totally changed the attitude by enhancing confidence and it acted as a great tool to
