Introduction
In this era of changes, it is necessary for every individual to develop their reading skills.
Reading skills will not only help in enhancing the level of knowledge but will also help the
individual in proceeding in their professional life. Reading skills are a key factor that will
help in accelerating the pace of academic life and will likewise help in enhancing the level of
knowledge of an individual. The report is describing the importance of reading skills in the
academic life of a student.

Description
Reading and learning are the two essential components in the academic period of individuals.
This will not only help in enhancing the area of knowledge but also assist the students in
increasing their level of confidence to interact or communicate with others (Akyol, Çakıroğlu
and Kuruyer, 2017). Reading skills are very important for putting steps in the professional
worlds. This concept likewise helps in improving the vocabulary and accent of the
individuals. With the understanding of this concept I was able to conjecture some of the
common factors that affect the reading skills of the individuals:
 Lack of understandability
 Lack of sentence framing skills
 Lack of concentration
Because of the above-stated factors a student is not able to develop reading skills in
themselves. But these issues can be avoided with the help of a number of techniques or
processes (Manoli and Papadopoulou, 2012). With the help of the study, I was able to find
out a number of methods that can help the students in improving their reading skills. These
methods are stated below:
 Skimming: It is a practice of grasping and gathering the information in the most effective
and quick manner. With the help of this method, the students can improvise their reading
skills and likewise enhance the knowledge regarding sentence formation.
 Scanning: It is a type of reading that is used by individuals when they need to research or
find specific information. A Google search can be categorized as an example of scanning
(Manoli and Papadopoulou, 2012).
The practice of both of these methods will help in improving the reading skills of the
individuals and will also help in providing them with a lot of information. With the regular
practice of both of these methods, an individual will be able to enhance its communication
and interaction skills. In this manner, it can be said that reading skills will help the
individuals in both academic and professional period (Akyol, Çakıroğlu and Kuruyer, 2017).


Conclusion
The assignment is fully dedicated to the significance of reading skills in the academic and
professional lives of individuals. With the help of the assignment, I was able to scrutinize a
number of factors that incorporate to the lack of reading skills. The assignment likewise
provides two different methods that will help in improving the reading skills of the
individual. With the help of skimming and scanning, I can enhance my reading skills and can
develop myself personally and professionally. This assignment will help me to phosphor in
my academic life and will help in enhancing my area of knowledge.
