In this area of competition, the students start their competition from academic life itself.
Hence it is extremely necessary for every student to develop good and impressive reading
skills. Reading skills will not only help them in improving their vocabulary but also provide
them with an opportunity of learning and grasping new knowledge. The assignment provided

Reading is a key element of the academic period of every individual. With the help of this
process, a student becomes able to discover new things and experience new theories in its
academic life (Ratz and Lenhard, 2013). Furthermore, with the assistance of this process the
students can enhance their area of knowledge and can promote their career is diversified
directions. With the help of this study, I was able to enhance my area of knowledge regarding
the importance of reading in academic and professional period. With the help of the study, I
was able to discover a number of issues that are affecting the reading skills of the students in
a negative manner. The primary factor that hinders the reading skills of students is related to
understandability. The students these days are not able to understand different concepts and
theories for improving reading skills it is really important for the students to improve their
understandability level (Ratz and Lenhard, 2013).
Aside to this the students also students also have to face the problem regarding lack of
concentration and inability in framing and understanding the sentences. Under all of
these issues, the students are not able to develop their reading skills (Lin et. al., 2018).
The study likewise conjectures two very simple and short methods that can help the students
in aiding the effects of these issues. These methods are as follows:
Skimming
Skimming is a method in which the students try
to develop practice of understanding and grasping
the things in an easier and quicker manner. The
students can develop this habit by reading
newspapers and magazines on a regular basis.
Scanning
Scanning on the other is a method of
understanding or researching new things online.
Under this method, the students can try to surf on
social platforms to understand and learn new
things.
With the help of both of these methods, the students will be able to enhance their reading
skills and can learn new theories and concepts in their academic period (Lin et. al., 2018).
