REASON BEHIND COURSE SELECTION
Genuine Reasons to Select MASTER OF SOCIAL WORK:
I have studied Bachelor Science (Hons) in Agriculture from Nepal in 2015. Now I have a
plan to study master of social work at Murdoch University.
Social work, agricultural science and sustainable development are actually
interconnected. My aim is to study master of social work, so that sustainability can be achieved
in the agricultural sector. Sustainability in agriculture refers to the fulfillment of demand for food
as well as textile, of the society in the present situation, without affecting the environment as
well as the future generation’s potentiality to satisfy their own demands.
The reason why I have decided to pursue masters of social science is, this course will
enlighten me to bring sustainability in the fields of agriculture, based on the idea of the
ecosystem services. For example, the promotion of the use of organic products in farming for the
purpose of maintaining sustainability. There are fertilizers which are made of organic elements
which do not cause harm to the environment and food grains as well. Again there are pesticides
prepared in organic ways which do not leave unhealthy or toxic effects on the lands or food
grains. The use of such organic products will bring sustainability in the agricultural sector.
Moreover the use of such organic process will enhance the productivity in the agricultural sector
and farmers can actually make profits from farming, but due to the lack of knowledge, education,
and capital; low as well as middle income farmers do not use these organic products in farming.
There are more factors that connects agriculture science and sustainable development and
social work..For the purpose of finding out those factors first one need to delve deep into the
common socio-economic problems encountered by the agricultural sector of most of the
countries in the world, specially the developing ones. One of the major socio-economic problems

REASON BEHIND COURSE SELECTION
faced by the farmers is the lack of capital. Again, in many of the developing countries farmers
are not aware of the implementation of scientific as well as modern techniques of farming. The
reason behind this, is the poor financial condition of the farmers and lack of education.
The reason why I have selected this study is that, social work and agriculture science and
sustainable development are interconnected, only the study of social work will help me to gain
practical experiences on the fields of social work. This will in turn assist me to fulfill my aim of
running my own NGO, engaged in the noble initiative to improve socio economic condition of
the farmers, by arranging awareness campaign as well as programs for the farmers, educational
programs for farmers where different modern techniques of farming will be demonstrated to the
farmers. My NGO will also facilitate the farmers to receive loans for farming easily by
collaborating with several financial institution run by the government of respective countries.
This is one of the most important reasons why I have selected this course (Connolly, Harms&
Williams, 2013).
Social work and agriculture science and sustainable development are interconnected, only
through the study of social work I will be able to train farmers as well as people related to
agricultural works, so that they can transform farming into an attractive business. This is
because, the next generation of the existing farmers are reluctant to take farming as a
profession., as they do not find farming profitable and attractive. If next generation of the
existing farmers reluctant to the profession of farming this way, the day will be no far when
there will be no farmers in the world, and the whole world will face a massive dearth of food
grains and starving will be the ultimate result of this.
