Teamworkis regarded as a vital ingredient to success and achievements in any work
environment. With effective teambuilding, organizational units perform towards achieving
defined targets and objectives. An organized team is referred as an outcome of individual
expertise and attitudes centering the cooperation, integrity, effectiveness, productivity, as
well as successful cooperative execution(Katzenbach& Smith, 2015). An effective and
cohesive team performs well when all the team members are aware and concerned of their
own responsibilities. However, it must be noted that despite of well-defined roles and
responsibilities, a team might experience challenges because of certain shortcomings. Each of
Belbin’s team roles has provided with set of distinctiveness, strengths as well as weaknesses.
The immense impact and influence of recruitment plan on team building can be defined by
the Belbin’s theory of team roles. Belbin’s definition of team roles has been categorized into
three different groups namely, action oriented, people-oriented roles and thought-oriented
roles(Batenburg, van Walbeek& in der Maur, 2013). The action-oriented roles comprise of
shaper, completer finisher and implementer characters. While the people-oriented roles
comprise of individuals characterizes teamwork, resource investigation and harmonization.
The thought-oriented roles involve plant, monitor evaluation and expert. During team
building, the Belbin model is considered as an effective tool to ensure improved level of team
building processes(Gold et al., 2013). Belbin is globally regarded as the yardstick for
measuring as well as describing the nine major sets of behavioral patterns that characterize
both individuals as well as collective teamwork. For example, Nike is immensely popular for
its unique team building approaches, which further works to create a culture, which succeeds
through effective team building as well as team performance. Once these patterns are easily
comprehended, they facilitate teams to evaluate its weaknesses and further advantage its
beneficial factors within the team.
