Introduction
The construction industry is one of the most dynamic and important industry which deals
with the procedure of constructing infrastructure or buildings. The construction industry is in
huge demand and is likely to keep growing in countries like the United States of America and
Canada. It is highly important to recruit and select eminent employers for the construction
industry in order to establish concrete infrastructure and buildings as even a small mistake can
cause huge disaster for people, workers working in the construction field and also to the
reputation of the construction companies. This paper will be creating recruitment and selection of
the construction industry in Kelowna, Canada which will help in selecting talented and highly
skilled workers for the development and the growth of the construction industry.
Recruitment process
Recruitment is considered to be the process of shortlisting, attracting and selecting
suitable candidates for specific job roles in an organisation (Armstrong, Landers & Collmus,
2016). The recruitment process of the construction industry is a bit different in comparison to
other industries because of the job roles and the risk factors that are associated with the industry.
The general recruitment processes in the construction industry are the following:

Most people that are seeking for jobs do not generally flock to the construction industry

and try to generate interest among the young children in school levels in order to introduce them

Majority of the companies have been offering their employees with various benefits like
paid vacations, health programs, medical benefits and family leaves. According to scholars,
benefits are one of the attractive factors which make people consider jobs in a specific company
or an industry (Joao, 2017). The construction companies these days are trying to incorporate
these new trends in order to attract talented and eminent employees in the construction business
which is one of the recruitment strategies.
Job description
Job descriptions have a huge role to play in the recruitment process as this helps in
employees applying for jobs based on the posted requirements and qualifications which helps in
the selection process as well. A job description for the construction industry will help in
attracting talented employees and construction workers. A job description needs to have all the
necessary details like requirements of the specific job role and the qualities, knowledge and
experience one has in the field.
Word of mouth
According to scholars, subcontractors, suppliers, clients and also construction workers

Various tests
The construction industry has incorporated high end technologies in the construction sites
and thus it various tests like technical and mechanical tests is important in order to hire talented
and a deserving candidate. Black et al, (2017) tests in the selection process gives employers an
idea about the skills and knowledge the candidate has which is essential for the job position.
Personal interview
Personal interview and screening according to scholars help employers to obtain
informations which help in deciding whether they are suitable for the job or not (Ulubeyli, Kazaz
& Arslan, 2017). Thus, the construction industry in Canada needs to conduct personal interview
which will help them in understanding other factors of an employee like their confidence, cross
check their knowledge and information they have put on their resume.
