Introduction
In the roofing organization, the problem is that due to use of internal referrals process,
it is critical to recruit and select skilled workers. The project is to select possible solutions on
recruitment and selection process in the construction industry. This study is important as
reader can understand on best possible process of recruitment and selection of skilled
workers.
Background information
Kelowna has a main labor force in retail trade as well as construction. In the
company, the young workers are showing less interest into pursuing career opportunities into
the industry. As there are various industries within Kelowna, therefore there is shortage of the
skilled workers. Therefore, there is required to select recruitment and selection method for
hiring of workers.
Potential solutions
The potential solutions for recruitment and selection in roofing industry are as
follows:
Data revealing bio data tests: Using this method, the applicants are recruited and
selected by measuring their past events, behaviours, personal attitudes, skills, experiences as
well as abilities, performance. This test is faster than it takes maximum 5 days to take
interview of 30 employees and effort provided is daily 6 hours. It is free of cost for the
company.
Direct advertising: The Company places job adverts on the job boards and industry
publications to find skilled workers. It provides exposure to the employer branding as well as
boosts reputation of the company. This method increases visibility of job as well as helps in

getting high quality candidates (Furnham, 2017). Time and effort both are not provided as it
is one time cost for the company to give the advertising on the job boards, industry
publications. The direct advertising costs for approximately $9,000 per month for each of the
employees.
Online screening and shortlisting: The online applications for job is sent to the email
address with potential Company. The initial screening is based on assessment of the
candidate’s experiences as well as qualifications against requirements of job (Rudolph,
Toomey, & Baltes, 2017). It takes 23 hours per hires for screening the resumes and determine
final candidates. The cost required for this method is $40,000 in terms of interviewing and
selecting the candidate.
Recommended solution
Among proposed potential solutions, recommend solution is data revealing bio data
tests as it is free of cost as compared to other methods. There is screening of employees based
on their abilities, and knowledge required for the job positions. Knowing of unique
information about the candidate helps in hiring of the candidates fit in the company culture.
