Subject: Request to Conduct Research on improving recycling facility
Summary
Recycling is a cost effective and eco-friendly method to save energy. Offices consume a lot
of energy and consequently produce a lot of waste. The company can benefit a lot from
effectively managing waste; therefore, it is essential for the company to launch its own
recycling program. With your permission, I would like to conduct a research on improving
the recycling facility of our company that will benefit our company in the future.
What the Problem Is and Why It Needs to Be Investigated
Environmental pollution have far reaching effect and is a collective responsibility to help
the planet. Office as a solitary unit generates a lot of waste. Things such as paper, food,
wrappers, bottles, metal clips and others can be both biodegradable and non-bio degradable
waste lands up in landfill without a proper recycling facility. This increase contaminents in
water, soil and causes diseases such as asthma, skin ailments and others. Wasteful practices
is also builds up cost in upkeep, which is deterrent factor in a business.
Proper utilization of the recycle facility needs to be investigated to implement an effective
waste management program. Waste is generated every day and if it is not properly
managed can cause a lot of pollution to the environment as well as harm the health and
wellbeing of the employees within the organization. Recycling is also cost effective
method that can benefit the company. It will help to build a positive image about the
company by going green.

What Secondary Research I Have Conducted about the Problem
Through secondary research, I have come across many literature pieces and articles that
show that improving recycling facility is an important aspect. Studies regarding recycling
imply that an average American produces 1675.51 pounds of waste annually. This
increases the corporate waste stress on the planet. Internet articles and case studies indicate
the value in addressing the issue. United States Environment Protection Agency is also an
important source of information on the various law and order and benefits of recycling.
Improper waste management leads to pollution, causes health risks and is a negative impact
on environment. Secondary research also shows the advantages of recycling in office
places, it also states the basic step is to raise awareness regarding waste generation and
support a green business module.
What Primary Research I Will Conduct about the Problem
The primary research that will be included in this process is firstly, is to collect data on the
amount of waste that is generated from different section of the office. This helps to
understand which section produces more waste and will make it easier for waste
segregation. Secondly, my primary research will include interviewing the employees and
understanding their awareness about recycling, reviewing the products currently used by
the employees that can be replaced with sustainable products. Thirdly, for a proper
recycling process I need to understand the best method to segregate the waste and storage
strategy, so that each waste is segregated and recycled well. Fourthly, through the above
collected data and information we need to set achievable targets to recycle and reduce
waste production. It can be calculated as in reducing the total weight of the waste produced
each month, it should equate with the government benchmark also should be time bound to

ensure its effectiveness. Lastly, the organization needs to select a waste management
company, which will help the company to recycle.
Why We Will Benefit from My Research and Recommendations
Recycling and reducing waste can reduce the cost of managing the waste, saving money is
an incentive that can benefit the organization greatly. The organization culture is greatly
influenced by such initiatives as it fosters positive interactions among the employees and
makes them environmental conscious. This is also a great PR for the company that enables
it to deliver a good public image that supports a green business plan.
I would like to recommend that the company set up a separate office for monitoring and
evaluating the waste production and recycling facility. Further, I would like to suggest that
the company invests in process that reduces paper wastes by encouraging paperless
technology.
Conclusion
This improvement can help our company immensely and reduce stress on the environment.
Given the current state of our planet and the adversities, that pollution has brought. This
enables us to lend a hand at helping our planet. This can also help us to improve certain
system within the organization that help to reduce waste and will be cost effective.
Therefore, I would like to request you to grant me the permission to conduct this research.
