INTRODUCTION
Referencing can be defined as the contribution that has been made by the other
writers and authors in the completion of the research or the project on which an
individuals is working upon. It is important to do referencing in the projects or research
carried over in order to give credit to the writer or author of whom, the words have been
used in the completion of this research or project. The following assignment will also
make its discussion on the concept of referencing and importance of referencing in the
research or projects. In addition to this, the assignment will also focus on the different
types of referencing and the examples will be provided on their use.

Referencing, Types and Harvard Referencing with Examples
As discussed above, Referencing is all about the borrowed words of other
authors or writers which are used in the individuals research or project. By making
citation of a particular scholar, the individual is agreeing and respecting the information
provided by the writer as it proved to be helpful for the individual for making complete
their project (Abuter and et. al., 2017). In addition to this, it also helps in drawing certain
conclusions, ideas, insights on the basis of the information presented by the writers.
It is also the way with the help of which an individual could support the assertions
and claims your own assignments (Why is Referencing Important?, 2013). As the
citations also makes the writing of an individual more persuasive. So references should
be done always in an accurate and allowing the readers to have access to the sources
from which the information has been gathered and used. This will helps them in

knowing about the authentic and reliability of the research or project carried over by the
individual. With the help of referencing, it is possible to prove in front of the readers
about the information that has been presented in the research or project as a part of
own study of the individual. The best way to make references is by keeping all the
sources of the assignment at the time of taking them material from the source of any
other author (Giuli and Treadgold, 2017). With the help of this, confusions will not be
created at the time of making the citations. As confusion arises when it comes to citation
because the individual fails to remember that which citation is needed to be done at
what place.
Referencing is also of many types such as the Harvard, APA, Oxford, Chicago,
MHRA and many more which are used at the time of completing any research or project
given. Out of all these the most commons which are used are Harvard and APA. So on
the basis of requirements of this project stated, Harvard Referencing, its examples and
application has been provided. Harvard Referencing Style is a citation style which are
boxed with parentheses and enclosed in text, either within or after the completion of a
sentence written (Pears and Shields, 2016). So it is important to make the references to
be pasted a correct place where the use of wording of other writers has been actually
done. In case, it is not done appropriately than this situation will remove the authenticity
of the research or project carried because the reader will not be able to find the data of
which the source has been provided and the project will fail to give its reliability.
Eradication of Plagiarism is also one of the most important reasons that makes
an individual to make use of referencing in their research or projects. In the Harvard
Referencing, the difference from other styles is related to the gap given in the initials

and no use of brackets and uses “and et. al.,” in case the book have more than three
authors.
The citation in the project depends on the type of data which an individual is
using the project and for that it is important to identify the sources which the individual is
making use of, whether it is relevant to the content written or not (Truong and et. al.,
2016). There are also different citations for different disciplines. In case when the
sources are cited in psychology project than the use of citation will be different as in the
case of English class.

CONCLUSION
From the above assignment, it has been concluded that referencing is an
important part of every project or assignment which is done by an individual or group of
persons. In addition to this, it is also concluded that person carrying out the project
should know about the paper and the types of references which will be best for the
paper. The conclusion has been drawn about the importance of doing citation at the

time when some information is used in the project of any other writer so that mistakes
could be avoided about wrong citation which impacts negatively on the project.
