Summer temperatures in Australia can vary between 15 degrees Celsius to over 40 degrees
Celsius. In most places, however, summer temperatures reach above 30 degrees Celsius, and in
areas with high humidity, conditions are even warmer (Bom.gov.au 2019). While many people
enjoy the warm climate, very high temperatures can lead to a range of health problems,
especially among certain groups such as young children, the elderly, and people working
outdoors (Betterhealth.vic.gov.au 2019). The hours between 10am and 3pm are the riskiest for
sun exposure. It is essential to take precautions in scorching weather, such as sunscreen,
appropriate clothing, and hats (Healthdirect.gov.au 2019). This can also help prevent problems
such as skin cancer in later years.
