Introduction
Nursing is a disciple that is rich in vales and is combined with technical and knowledge skills
that are founded on a specific human interest. Over the years, the nursing practice has gone
through a radical change in public interest perspective to narrow the focus on each individual.
The nursing professionals have to follow different trends by setting in search of convenience,
professional development, waiving professional values, society to give their best in their job
roles. Today, more than ever there are conflicts seen between the professional, personal and
social values of nursing practice. In light of this study, in this assignment, we are going to
measure the professional values, personal values, self-care and professional development of the
nurses to perfect their best professional practice.
Assessment Event 1: Personal values
In a nursing profession it is essential to have critical assessment in the personal beliefs and
character and person value to give optimum care to the patients. Being a registered nurse I
required having my own personal value and competence to rise within mu practice that could
further be possessed to help my patients out with the bet centered care1.
According to my personal professional experience in nursing practice, I would like to reflect
back a case where I worked in Nigeria as a professional nurse, a 16 year old girl l work up in the
hospital. She asked me throughout the way if I could help her in any sort of way for her problem.

As I was earlier informed by may doctor that before the procedure world care out, she has to
inform about it2.
In reflecting back in this situation, I prompted this question to myself on how would he be
feeling on her situation? As my professional nursing practice it allowed me to assess her
thoughts and emotions as well as feeling on how she might be feeling at first place. Through very
simple actions of her voice and her flat behavior I could know that she was really frightened.
Another reflected thought which came in my mind was being a nurse, how I could make the
young girl feel good on this situation? For this, I made her calm in certainly to make her feel best
and to calm her down by telling her about the procedure that will make her good in no time. The
situation leaded a positive impact on my professional nursing practice as there are times where
we could lead a positive change by making our patients positive to recover better in their
problem3.

make a better sense in different situations which may arise in the work. A nurse can use the
model by exploring the situation to themselves, and further applying it into the peer or someone
they would like to coach on.
Learning reflection tool:
Identifying a preferred learning style is one of the best way to optimize out different learning
opportunities that can record the areas of development and strengths and in the way that where
learning needs to be taken in place. In the nursing profession, the nurses can evaluate their
development areas and further the learning refection tool can be applied to learn for the
betterment of their professional career.
Self assessment tool:
The combination of attitudes, skills, knowledge and judgment requires to be carried on the
professional nursing service is called as self assessment. The self assessment tool can be in an
organization method where the nurses can identify their own leading needs. The tool can be
planned according to the education, professional development program so that the nurses can
remain competent in their professional practice4.
Methods of Professional Development tool:
The nurse’s profession can make out a strategically career for themselves by the methods of
processional development tool. The nurses can identify their goals, look out for the opportunities
and further look into make it happen in their professional practice.

Professional Development Plan tool –
The professional develop tool comprises of giving continuous education and learning to the
nurse so that they can give out the best health care service to their patients. The tool can be
managed, planed and systemize in a way to ensure that a safe, effective and caring environment
is given to the patient. The six step process can be individualized in the professional develop
plan that is by: identify, priories, plan out, do evaluate and record.
Industry Development tool –
Industry development is also one of the major elements that should be overseen to develop
professionalism in the working of nurses. The set of plan and core competencies can be produced
in the industry and in the health clinicians that should possess the discipline and the systems that
are needed in the 21st century to develop the nurse’s professional practices in the context of
professional development.

Ethical considerations
In the nursing professional the ethical decisions and consideration occur occasionally in times
where they may face ethical dilemmas too. In contrast to taking ethical consideration on daily
situations in the nursing practice, it is essential for the nurses to make ethical decisions about
giving the best care delivering, patient advocacy as well as patient care. The ethical
considerations that must be followed by the nurses during the correctional setting are as follows:

 Beneficence (Doing good)

These ethical consideration guides the nurses to make an ethical decision to support the code of
ethics in their nursing profession. The ethical considerations will help out nurses in all the
setting, roles, levels to give out the best guidance as needed according to the expectations5.
Legal considerations
In nursing practice the legal implications are tied to federal and state laws, licensure, public
expectations and scope of practice that is needed in their nurse practice to be delivered in the
highest professional standard. The nurse’s education must provide the framework in which
nurses are expected to practice in there best way that can help them to give out acceptable
standard of competence and care that can expose the nurses to litigation6.
The litigation can be related to falling the exercise and the level of care that can also be similar to
circumstances of professional negligence, malpractice that is an act of reflectance in the nurse’s

professional role. The act of commission and omission will also subject to the legal consideration
of their profession and may result in the loss of nursing license too7.
Assessment Event 4: Self Care
1. The need of self care
Self care is a vital step that needs to be addressed in the profession of nursing. As Self-
awareness is one of the major took that can help the nurses to improve their gaps in their
nursing practices by improving their managing skills to promote skill development. The
self-awareness of an individual nurse can also help them to find solutions during the role
of decision making, to aid stress management and also to motivate one to be better in the
job role 8
2. Skill development
According to my experience in the nursing practices I focused on to assist with the gaps
between the current situations and in the desired future situations to improve in their
respective job role. The self-awareness in skill development can revel on what factors an
individual nurse want to work on. This helped me to undertake the self evaluate to
promote myself and to develop a self-care routine.
3. Developing decisions making skills
In my experience I developed an emotional self-awareness is one of the important factors that
must be taken into consideration by the decision makers. For a well-attained position, nurses

4. Opportunities
The two opportunities that I have wish listed with my professional nursing practice is by
developing professional and personal relationship with the patient that has helped me to
enhance by professional working style as well as helped to me develop my personal value to
give out the best care and treatments so the patients 10.
5. Growth in knowledge and skills
The experiences and practices in my professional nursing practice has helped me to shape my
career by upgrading my knowledge and skills to give out best and to represent my best to
develop my career and for speedy recovery of my patients11.

services to the public. The ability of nurses to service out better to the public has been hampered
by constraints of outdated policies, Scopes, and practices of nurses. The above-listed changes

change of personal values can help them to remove the barrier of ineffective nursing practices. In
conclusion of the assessment, it is also seen that the education, training, and self-motivation can
