INTRODUCTION
Academic study skills are skills which will help individual to learn, retain and recall
the information. It will provide help in passing exams along with it will provide knowledge
regarding time management and motivational techniques. Academic skills includes reading
skills, writing skills, time management skills and planning skills. These skills provide
knowledge to individual and it will provide knowledge for using that knowledge in right way
and at right place. It is a reflection essay and it will discuss effective management of academic
work. Students are not able to do work because they are not able to mange work and plan how
to complete work on time (Bloomberg and Volpe 2018). In academic work students have to
write literature along with that they have to search for data as well. So, students must have
knowledge regarding writing and how to use the collected data in right place. The assignment
is providing knowledge regarding academic skills and how it can be improved.
Academic skill can improve performance of students by way of those skills. Thee skills
will have effect on students because in some case students will not be able to solve problems.
These skills will help them to solve problems. Students are distracted through which they are
not able to do work. These skills swill provide them knowledge regarding critical thinking,
decision-making and distraction as well. It will motivate students to perform better and
achieve their goals in life (Osanloo and Grant 2016).
REFLECTION
Gibbs reflective model
Reflective model is encouraging people in thinking systematically about the
experiences in their specific situation. The model is including description, feelings, evaluation,
analysis, conclusion and action plan as well.
Description
In my opinion students are not able to work in effective way because they are
distracted by friends and families. Students are interested in playing, and they are not able to
concentrate on study. So, student need to have knowledge of academic skills which can
improve their performance. Students need to have skills like time management skills, Stress
management skills and identifying the strengths and weakness of myself. Information which is
collected by me for writing literature along with reflective writing. Writing the information
collected in effective way I will need these skills which will improve my writing skills. In

academic integrity I have to commit and demonstrate of honest and moral behaviour in an
academic year. In academic integrity one can trust me and value then knowledge and
education gained by me. Academic integrity is focusing on plagiarism and references. Report
are done by me but it requires acknowledgement and in failure of acknowledgement is
plagiarism (Schwenger 2016). Referencing is method in which person ideas which will be
used in writing report. All the sources will need referencing which will include ideas, videos
and diagrams as well. Referencing can be used for avoiding plagiarism. It will indicate depth
and breadth of research and reading.
Feelings
I feel that I am distracted by playing and by other activities along with I am not able to
prepare and analyze my strengths and weakness. Students are only studying, but they are not
planning for completing academic work on time. It is because I do not have time management
skills, I know about what I have to achieve, but I am not able to manage these in effective
way. Critical thinking skills will improve my performance because in writing literature review
I will need to observe data, analyze whether information is right or not. In academic year I am
dealing with stress because I have not managed work in effective way. Due to this
mismanagement I am dealing with stress and pressure in academic year. In whole academic
year I am studying but while memorizing I cannot memorize everything and so, my
performance is affected .
Evaluation
I can evaluate that I through identifying strengths and weakness of self, I can improve
my performance. I can use strengths and overcome weakness which will improve my
performance. As students, I cannot work in effective way and because I have not identified my
goals nor tried to change my performance. Through analyzing my strengths and weakness I
need to develop these skills for managing academic work. Communication skills is must
through I which will improve my performance in writing literature. Data collected is need to
be used in proper way and at right time. Communication is of two types like verbal
communication and written communication. Plagiarism is wrong word because in this
information is stolen and represented that information in original work. Plagiarism is
considered as dishonesty in academic and breach of journalistic ethics as well. I can avoid

plagiarism by way of paraphrasing and using that information in report but writing in my style
and language.
Analysis
Time management skills
So, for improving time management skill I have to set goals and focus on that goal. I
have to develop multitasking habit in self along with that habit of scheduling academic work
as well. These all habits will develop decision-making skills in myself which will improve
performance of mine.
Stress management skills
So, I have to improve stress management skills by way of keeping positive attitude and
exercising regularly. I can learn relaxation techniques which will improve my performance. I
think eating healthy food is the best way for improving performance of mine. Well balanced
diet will relax me, so, I can do the work in effective way (Klucevsek and Brungard 2016).
Memorizing skills
Not only me, but every student is facing problems relating to memorizing. These can
be improved by way of concentration. Concentration is must for grasping something which is
taught by teacher. Some can memorize by way of writing it again and again while some can
memorize by way of learning things in visual form.
Critical thinking
The students need to interpret the data collected and reflect data. Data written is need
to be evaluated and explained in proper way. Problems are rising in understanding data is
solved and then proper decision will be taken by me. Critical thinking skills will improve my
performance and help me to complete work in effective way.
Communication skills
In writing report I need to have better communication. In the written communication I
will need presentation skills as well. Data collected but not presented in effective way then it
will have negative impact on my performance (Gray 2019). Effective communication will be
done listening properly and writing the data collected in effective way.
Decision making skill
In decision-making, I have to listening actively and communicate with other people
and discuss decision. Effective communication is must in decision-making because without

communication I cannot discuss with anyone and I can take wrong decision. In order to take
decision I will need time management skills along with critical thinking skill. Decision of
mine is depended on these skills and performance of me as well. In decision-making process
while taking decision I need to evaluate short term effect and long term effects.
Research skills
Research is done by me for completing the project on time and in that I must have
knowledge regarding report writing, data collection and analysing the information collected
form sources. Identify the sources whether they are right or not. I need to plan and schedule
the work complete research in time. Interviews are conducted for collecting data. I can
improve my research skill by way of setting the schedule along with ask queries which are
raised in my mind while reading data..
I can read it and understand what I it is trying it says and then paraphrase the data
collected. Citing is one of efficient way for avoiding plagiarism. In citing document formatting
guidelines given by institute form data is collected. It will contain detail of author and year in
which it was written. Referencing is important for avoiding plagiarism because in these
sources form which data is collected is written.
It will help researcher to locate the sources. Referencing will support argument which
help me in working effectively. Referencing includes two elements which will include citation
and complete reference. In citation author and year is written in complete report while
references are written at last of report and it will give full detail of data used in report.
(Zackoff, and et.al., 2019).
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that academic study skills are important
for students. These skills are playing vital role in improving performance. I have to effectively
manage academic work and gain more knowledge from completing work on time. Academic
work can be done in effectively by focusing on strengths and weakness of students. I will
require these skills like communication skills, decision-making skills and critical thinking
skills as well. These skills need to be improved by me because I am not able to perform work
in effective way (Repko Szostak and Buchberger 2019).
In order to improve study skills I will prepare their own notes which Will help them in
recollecting information while studying. I am also focusing on reading information which will

provide them more knowledge. In process of studying only, I will prepare their notes. These
notes will include the key points which need to be discussed in class along with summary of
whole information. I can also use active memorization techniques which will help them to
manage work and memorize the data collected. I am facing problems relating to memorizing
data. So, in these case teacher must use memorizing techniques which will help me in
memorizing.
I am also facing problems relating to not understanding questions and also they are not
asking their queries to their which can solve their queries. So, I must make habit of asking
question on queries which are not understood by them. In some case I am so tensed that they
have not completed work. In these case I need to take regular breaks which will provide them
motivation, and they will feel fresh. In these case I will need proper attention along with
motivation.
Teachers can use the latest learning styles which can help me in learning information.
Educational learning theories will include behavioural learning theory. In these behaviour
learning theory it will focus on behaviour of students. As per behaviour of mine I am not able
to learn and grasp the information provided in class. Teachers are giving rewards and
punishment according to the behaviour of student in class. In case of myself, behaviour is
disturbing whole class then he will be provided punishment. If the behaviour is good in class
then I will be provided rewards for better performance.
Action plan
I can use cognitive theory of Jean Piaget, it is focusing on the different stages of
mental development. Theory is concentrating on how I acquire knowledge and understanding
of nature of intelligence. He believed that children are taking active role in learning process
and student can actively act and perform experiments in effective way. It will contain
sensorimotor stage from birth to 2 years. Pre operational stage from 2 to 7 and concrete
operational stage from 7 to 11. Formal operational stage from 12 to up, it will improve
performance of mine which is included in learning process.
I will have knowledge of how to use information in right way and at right time. I can
use motivational theories for understanding mental state of individual. Motivation theories will
improve learning capability of student (Choperena, and et.al., 2019). Referencing can be
improved by way of cite past work of mine and by carefully choosing keywords as well. I can

use keywords which are repeatedly used in abstract and I can use that style of referencing
which has provided by teacher. I have to get references right for avoiding references. Through
avoiding plagiarism I can improve my performance and develop academic integrity as well.
Through avoiding these I can develop honesty in me along with writing skills. Writing
skills will be improved and I can gain more knowledge in detail which will improve
performance of mine. In order complete research on time I can use the latest technologies
which will help me in completing the research on time. In effective critical thinking I need to
have better communication skills which will help me in discussing problems and writing the
data in effective way. I can memorize more information by way of using these strategies at
time of learning. Grasping information is not important but I have to use that information in
correct time an in correct way.
