Chapter – 29
Empowering Self and Others
This chapter basically tells the readers about the importance of the empowering of
one’s own self and that of the others. It is useful for the teachers as it will help the teachers to
finding new ways by which they can coordinate the children more effectively themselves.
The article also tells the readers about the different ways in which the readers should
communicate and in the effect that it would have on the people they are talking to.
“Empowering parents and other family members is about helping them find and use
their personal and interpersonal power, and avoid using dominant and submissive
behaviour”.
The author claims the importance of empowerment of the parents and the family
members. It says that the power of empowerment can help the family members to understand
the things in a logical manner, which would prevent them from using submissive and
behaviours themselves. This will be beneficial for both the parents and the children.
I find this line to be important because it teaches the readers about finding ways by
which they can make their kids listen to them in a friendly manner. I agree with this because
it would make the children feel less afraid of their parents and make them eager to learn new
things themselves.
Chapter – 31
Holding Ongoing Conversations with Families
This chapter tells the readers about the importance of holding conversations with the
family members themselves. The chapter also tells the readers why it is important to have

parent teacher meetings or discussions with the teachers. In addition to this, it also tells the
readers the benefits of home visits by the parents and the teachers and how this is going to
help the children themselves.
“Daily Conversations can be an important way to get to know each other.”
This chapter tells the readers about the importance of having conversations between
the members of the family. The author of the article emphasizes that conversations with the
family members can help them to understand each other’s problems. Therefore, the students
would also be benefitted from the discussions they have with their parents, as the parents will
be able to understand the problems they go through.
I feel that this is the most important part of the article for any reader. This is because
it is the daily conversations that allows people to know each other and understand the various
problems they are facing. This is why I feel that this sentence is an important part of the
chapter and it is also important.
Chapter – 32
Looking at Non-verbal Communication Across Cultures
This is the chapter which deals with the concept of the non-verbal communication and
how this culture takes place across various cultures. The chapter tells the readers about the
problems it causes to the people of different cultures as they cannot understand the current
culture in which they are presently in. The chapter also talks about the various types of ways
in which the nonverbal communication takes place among the people of different cultures.
“A bigger issue is when the teacher touches a child on the heads and the child’s parents
worries that the gesture has stolen the child’s spirit.”

3COMMUNICATION
The chapter describes the impact of the misunderstandings of the non-verbal
communication can have on an individual. Here, the teacher might touch the child on the
head as a sign of affection but the parents might consider it to be a curse due to difference of
culture and superstitions.
I feel that this line is important as it revels the misconceptions and the superstitions
which the people themselves suffer from. This is the reason why I do not agree with this
statement itself.
Chapter – 28
Creating Environments for Communication
This chapter is used to explain to the readers about the importance of the
communication and how it is related to the environment itself. The chapter informs the
readers about the various ways and the various environments in which the communication
takes pace and the way it affects the discussion between the parents and the teachers for that
purpose itself.
“Many environmental factors, besides lack of space or funding for adult furniture,
work against inviting parents.”
This chapter tells the readers about the importance of the environment which would
encourage the conversations between the parents and the teachers. If the environment is
correct, the conversations between would be perfect. Both the parents and the teachers would
be able to understand each other’s problems and solve the problems successfully.
I agree with the above quote because it is truly said that many environmental factors
might not be suitable for the purpose of the parent teacher meeting itself. The main reason for
this is the obstacles to the conversations between the parents and the teachers. The right

environment would help them to successfully discuss about the problems their children are
facing and solve it. Hence, I agree with the sentence itself.
