Reflection and Evaluation 2
Introduction
The essay is a reflection on a group a presentation; we had together with my classmates,
along with the peer and tutor feedback we got. As a part of the group, I had to use practical
communication skills in presentation and in the group discussion to produce an excellent
performance. Our main objective was to educate the rest of our class members on how the nurse
can perform roles as a learner and educator. The group also focused on how the lesson could be
delivered in public. We understood that reflection is not just enough, and we have to put into
practice what we learn from our experiences. Reflection helps one view the usual method from a
different perspective and makes changes that may develop their practice in the future besides
reflection gives a chance to view life in a different angle and make positive life U-turn (BĂ©res,
Bowles & Fook, 2011). Therefore we decided to use the Gibbs model of reflection, which
includes description, feelings, evaluation and analysis, conclusion, and action plan.
Description
We undertook the group presentation as a part of our learning activity which consisted of
five members of whom our lecturer did the allocation. Each member working as an individual
would not be active therefore we proposed to have regular meetings after class lectures to
practice and brainstorm on new ways we can make the presentation more acceptable by our
tutors, and more lessons learned through the same (Logan, 2016). Driven by the same loyalty,
the group discussion became more productive and worked together in various research studies
within the library and community at large.
Feelings

Reflection and Evaluation 3
From my previous experience, I had gained a lot from group discussions and gathered
enough courage for this presentation. What worried me was, there was much to be covered, but
little was done due to lack of enough resources. We had to work extra time in order to finish the
preparation before the deadline. Due to less time and much anxiety, we opted to subdivide the
task into small subsections or subtopics, and assigned to everybody in the group a subtopic to
research on so that we would get the outcome quickly and with ease. Division of the task in that
everybody specialized in a particular topic helped as to save time and get diverse ideas was
assigned a subtopic that would yield good results (Tian, 2018). During the weekend, we would
meet and share our finding from subtopics divided among the individuals. Our tutor's feedback
also motivated us, and we got more felt more energetic and enthusiastic about striving more to
get good results. In each completed subtopic, there was a feeling of fulfillment, seeing that a
particular milestone was achieved. Since there was good teamwork amongst ourselves, we were
all smiles after the presentation. Collaboration is significant because it determines the success of
a group discussion (Burke, 2011).
Evaluation
At the beginning of our group discussion, we faced various challenges since other members
of the group took more time to cooperate and adapt to a discussion environment. Our team leader
was more involved in collecting research findings from various individuals in the group.
(Jenkinson, Oakley & Mason, 2013) Most of my research ware sent through the internet in video
form for the other group members to see my progress as I was not physically present. I observed
my group present in class through a video. Though there was a distance barrier between uses, the
presentations were excellent. Although I was miles and distance away, I made a significant
change in group progress. The advantage of the group was that the members were very

cooperative in the group discussion. Every member of the group participated in the field research
and gave the research findings to the group team leader who was very enthusiastic to see the
success of the presentation. After the division of the task, people spent sleepless nights to
complete the subtopics within the deadline. For my part, I ensured relevant materials for the
presentation were ready and in good condition.
Feedback
From my tutors and peer's view, the presentation was excellent, especially incorporating videos
and nonverbal communication skills. They commented that there was good group coordination;
an adequate sign preparation. The carefully researched and selected videos from my end brought
a clear picture of our presentation to evaluators and the other groups at large (Ljubojevic et al.
2014). We had to make some improvement on body language since it was not well used. The
feedback from our peers and our tutor encouraged me to continue with my nursing studies.
Analysis.
The lesson was aimed to be delivered in a public context where we could reach as many
people as possible to make a more significant impact in the community. Consequently, we
considered it to be a moral lesson to be learned by the general public in a way it would change
their attitude and change their regular practice. To draw attention, videos may be combined as a
part of the presentation, in conjunction with more improved body language, which will put more
emphasis and understanding. Since the body language consists of 55% of effective
communication, improvement can be made in the future so that to portray a positive image

(Mehrabian, 2017). There would be conflict due to lack of cooperation among the members;
however, some of the members dedicated themselves entirely to see the presentation go through.
Conclusion
Teamwork among the members significantly contributed to the success of our presentation.
The team well-rehearsed the requirements of the performance, making sure that they consulted
the tutor in case of any question. On My Side, I helped to get diverse and researched information
and quality videos to see there was an impact I made in the group.
Action Plan
Though the group discussion was good, our presentation would be better if we used more body
language, by moving naturally around the stage. More body language shows courage and
truthfulness of the message portrayed, leaving a good impression. In the future, it would be better
to start early to create more time for research rehearsals. Adequate time will enable us will help
to eliminate the errors that may occur during the presentation. Moreover, sufficient time ensures
there is efficiency during field research and field study. The peer also suggested that the presence
of every member of the group would be better as it is a spoof of togetherness and unity in the
group. In the next performance, I will be available to help the other group members in their
research.
Nursing Role as Learners and Educators.

Reflection and Evaluation 6
Nurses should not only work in their clinical profession but also have an additional role to
work as educators. Effective patient education should start once the patient admission in hospital
is made. Additionally, the nurses should take advantage of the patients stay in the health centers
in educating them on self-care ("The Nurse's Role in Patient Education," 2019). Without proper
medical education, the patient may assume everything medicated not following doctor
prescriptions and health management instructions. The nurse should provide health teachings to
the family who may address topics such as proper health styles, the behavior of risk reduction
and disease prevention measures ("Nurses as educators within health systems," 2019). Nurses
learning are one of the key competencies within the health care industry. Therefore, the
community has high expectations from nurses in providing knowledge and excellent health care
among the people.
