Reflection of the Interview Process
Introduction
I got a priviledg to interview Mr. Ronaldo Lao Lingat (Maintenance & Procurement
Manager in Port of Fujairah), and Mr. Sherwin A. Ferrer (Electrical Foreman in Engineering
Department). I contacted Mr. Lingat through the email. After this, we agreed and scheduled for
an online interview on August 20, 2019. We had to do this because the geographical barrier
between us made it impossible to have a face-to-face encounter. I got into contact with Mr.
Ferrer through email and phone. After making my first call on August 22, 2019, we agreed to
schedule for an interview that eventually took place on September 3, 2019. In this piece, I
employ the use of the Describe, Interpret, Evaluate, and Plan (EEP) approach to present a
comprehensive reflection of the entire interview process.
Describe
During the interview session, I got a chance to directly engage the two interviewees by
asking him a wide range of questions on all the issues that I wanted him to clarify to me. From
my own assessment, it was a worthy interaction as it enabled me to learn lots of lessons. First, I
learnt about the significant contributions of the engineering program to the new graduates.
Secondly, I learnt that the success of an engineer depends on the possession and display of
fundamental competencies like communication and team work.
Interpret
The information that I acquired from the interviewee did not, in any way, contradict my
career plans. They affirmed my plans because they resonate with what I aspire to do. In fact, if I

put them into practice, I am sure that I will succeed. As already hinted, I would like to be an
engineer of repute. A reputable engineer, in my understanding, is knowledgeable, informed, and
professional. Meaning, he or she should show a high-degree of competency in communication,
team work, and professionalism. These are the issues that the two interviewees emphasized in his
responses. He acknowledges that success in engineering requires one to be an effective
communicator and a strong team player. These are the ideologies in which I believe. I fully-agree
with the interviewee because such competencies can enable me to fit into any workplace, relate
well with others, and concentrate on the delivery of exceptional services to the satisfaction of
everyone. Better still, such skills can enable me to grow my career and progress to higher levels.
Evaluate
The lessons that I acquired from the two interviewees are useful because they can have a
positive impact on my day-to-day practice as an engineer. As a young engineer, I need to
emulate the two interviewees. Their resilience and dedication has enabled him to be where he
currently is. In my understanding, I need to be ready to undergo a rigorous graduate training
program upon the completion of my course. As the interviewees recounted, graduate training is
important because it gives the new recruits enough practical skills that they need to get as they
begin a serious career. Besides, communication skill can be important to me as a professional. As
the interviewee exclaimed, communication is a core attribute of an engineer. It can determine the
success of a professional. Therefore, I need to ensure that I possess excellent and effective
interpersonal communication skills at all times. Lastly, teamwork is fundamental because, as an
engineer, I need to display a high-degree of collaboration and cooperation at all times.
Plan

In my plan, I will have to do everything within my capacity to get the best out of myself.
In order to achieve this, I have to strategize well. First, I will have to consider the two
interviewees responses as a challenge to me. Indeed, the interviewee challenged me to think out
of the box. Initially, I did not know that engineering is a long path that takes much time to build.
At the same time, I was not aware that there is a certain training that one needs to undergo to fit
into the profession. However, now that I know, I plan to reassess my career plans and come up
with appropriate strategies on which I will rely to build my engineering career. The first action
that I will take is that I will have to follow the right procedure when seeking for job
opportunities. Just like the two interviewees, I will have to ensure that I undergo the entire
recruitment process in the organization that I prefer to join. In addition, I will undertake the
prerequisite graduate program and be ready to learn and horn fundamental competencies like
teamwork and effective communication.
Conclusion
I aspire to become a successful electrical and electronic engineer. It is a life-time goal
that requires lots of commitments, dedication, sacrifice, and industry. I had to undertake was to
conduct an interview. Hence, to fulfill this requirement, I had to spare my time to engage two
people in a rigorous interview. Indeed, my interactions with Mr. Lingat and Mr. Ferrer gave
accorded me an ample opportunity to learn lots of lessons on how I can join the engineering
profession and progressively build my career so as to achieve my ultimate goals.
