REFLECTION ON THE NURSING PROFESSION 2
In the future, I want to be as a registered nurse in that I will use my profession anywhere
in the world. This will allow me to work with many people every day, both patients and staff. I
also believe that the nursing profession will let me be flexible to have family in the future. The
purpose of the nursing profession is the utilization of critical thinking, judgment and apply skills.
Moreover, there is the adoption of the holistic care approach when attending to the client, use of
nursing theories in the practice, application of the model of the nursing care, adhering to the
legislation set for the professional guidelines and advocating to create quality health systems
around the world. In accomplishing all those, the nursing practice can be practiced well hence
meeting its purpose. The nature of the nursing practice is to ensure quality care for all, maintain
the code of ethics and standards, maintain the competencies required and continue with
education to learn more things pertaining profession (Bastable, 2017).
Diversity is essential in the nursing profession because it provides opportunities to offer
quality care to patients. In my nursing profession I will follow diversity meaning I will be
following gender, status, race, religion, ethnicity, the socio-economic situation: education status,
and so many aspects. As a nurse, communication with the patient is essential because it breaks
the gap between the two parties (Darnell and Hickson, 2015). This makes the nurse cover the
bridge between the culture of medicines and the individual's beliefs so that the patient can find
value in the health care system. This means cultural competency and cultural awareness is
essential in the nursing practice. An example of applying diversity in nursing practice can be
reflected where I was working as a practicing nurse in Australia. In health care, I applied equity
when treating the indigenous and the non-indigenous Australians. This made me challenge other
nurses because they caused gap between the two groups which was very wrong. This means that
