Nursing Reflection Report: Enhancing Patient Care and Skills

PARAPHRASING

As per the current study which is based Gibbs (1988) model of reflection of an
academic event it is identified that in this a nurse has played a role to enhance their own
transformation nature in nursing to improvise their own study to be more effective and
productive in their career enhancement. In this study an interview of a nurse is taken whose
name is Sandra Kelty. She is an advocate and educate patient of mental health. She has
transformed the lives of many people within community. I am inspired with her contribution
in nursing and want to grow my career in nursing profession. I realized that nurses follow
holistic approach as they provide care services to patients. I was highly attracted towards
Kelty’s approach of thinking and building relationship with patients that create a great impact
on their lives.
I can say that Kelty posses several skills which can have positive impact on her
patients. Some skills like therapeutic and critical thinking skills attracted me and told me the
importance of having those skills. She is a community nurse and performed all her duty like
inspiring other nurse, She also made me realize in a positive manner that I am lacking in safe
nursing practices and for that I need to work hard and focus on this. In addition, I also
realized that I need to improve my oral communication as well as listening skills. In nursing
these skills work like a key which can influence patients efficiently.
I think that in nursing is a very good option to choose as career. In this I will be able
to work on ethics and perform all my responsibilities in saving lives of people. Within this
course I know how that by focusing more on my reflection skills and following nursing
practices I will be able to provide high quality care services to patients. In my training session
the trans-formative video that I watched helped me to identify my lack understanding related
to ethics been followed in nursing practices. Furthermore, through class activities and reading
I have improved and gained knowledge on transformative nursing topic.

Hence, I will now pay close attention towards ethical aspect and will be aware with
these aspects in future as well. I will have to work on my privacy skills so that I can keep the
data of patient confidential. In order to work even better I will take support of evidence based
practices. This will help me in implementing my experience at actual workplace in effective
manner. By this way I will be able to provide high quality care to patients. If I am able to
improve all these aspects then I can grow in my career.
