Abstract
The project aims to design an application in such a way that it meets the requirements of a ticket
booking application and meets the criteria of good design. In order to design the application, first
of all, I noted the user requirements of the application and design principles that design should
follow. The most suitable design principles were found to be Nielsen’s principle of good design.
The design work resulted in a fully functional and user-friendly mobile application which has all
the functionalities of good design. The prototype can be used for booking tickets for any kind of
event as the functionalities can be implemented in those also. The design meets the user
requirements by making screens for each functionality that was specified and additional
functionality that should be present in a ticket booking application.
Introduction
The application made to help the staff and users in ticket booking is named as Yours Choice.
The application was designed in earlier stages and on the basis of mistakes found in the design; it
was modified again to rectify the mistakes. Now, this report discusses the reflection of design.
There are multiple screens in the application to fulfill the requirements of movie booking, tickets
printing and extending the parking time. As businesses are improving because of technology, the
lifestyle of people is also changing. In the movie industry also, people don’t want to queue up for
buying the tickets. The introduction of mobile application and smartphones has built an effective
way to promote booking systems. The booking application makes the customer book his/her
tickets via the internet. This doesn’t’ only reduces the waiting time of the user but also boosts up
the business processes and selling services. Customers can book tickets, pay online using card
and receive a code which allows them to enter in the theatre (Akinyede, Balogun & Iwasokun,
2017). As mobile applications are increasing, the need to make the application differ from the
rest is also increasing. The design of the application should not only focus on one platform and
screen size. This can be handled with beta testing (Baktha, 2017).

User interface design for your application
In order to build a good design for an application, the foremost important factor to consider is
that the design should be made using all the functionality described. As the application Yours
Choice contains all the functionality required for a movie ticket application, the design provides
the best solution to the problem. The design follows Nielsen’s heuristic principle. The screens
book your seats get updated once a user books the ticket. To keep the consistency and standards
in the design as stated in heuristic principles, the placement of buttons, logo, and menu bar has
been done equally in the whole design. In order to let the user move freely through the
application, there are back buttons to allow freedom of user control. The description of labels,
links, and button is provided to minimize the errors. The user can also save the login credentials
and card details to avoid recognizing the details again and again. Also, there is no need to
recognize the ticket number or parking number. The design is kept minimalist by adding white
spaces wherever required and including important buttons and details only. To help the users
from recovering the errors, alert box and error messages have been placed which are easy for
users to understand. There is a screen FAQ and contact us to provide customer support.
How the design of “Yours choice” meets user requirements
The design meets the user requirements by making screens for every functionality that was
specified and additional functionality that should be present in a ticket booking application. The
user should be able to access the options present at the home page, by clicking on which the user
can navigate to ticket booking screen or viewing the ticket or extend the parking. The user can
pay using the application and cash also. The user can also get the free extended parking if he/she
books with the application. In order to meet the requirements, there are multiple screens
available in the application such as, Login, register, Home, Movie, Movie details, Theatre,
seat selection screen to fulfill the movie booking requirement. Payment option, card details,
payment confirmation fulfills the payment requirement. Booking detail, vehicle parking, and
vehicle parking confirmation screen is made to fulfill the functionality of extended parking.
The screens Contact us, about us, FAQ and help screen allows the user to enter the queries or
search for the queries. The user can have all the basic functionality of a ticket booking
application using Yours choice. There are various screens which provide additional

functionalities to the users such as letting them save their profile for later, viewing the past
bookings, etc.

What factors influenced my design and how?
Designing an application is influenced by various factors, some of which are discussed here. The
design should make the application differ from its competitors and it should be noticeable. Using
this factor the design was prepared with its originality. In order to make a design good, there are
certain principles which should be followed, the principles influenced my design was Nielsen’s
heuristic principle. Other than focusing on the design and appearance of the application, the user
requirements affected the design. The application consisted of some basic functionality such as
booking tickets, extending the parking and getting the ticket printed which led the design to have
more buttons, links, etc. the overall design has been made such that it covers all the functionality
without making the screen look congested and keeping in mind the aesthetic design of the
application. In order to make the design stand out in similar applications available, the design has
been made after evaluating the similar applications like HOYTS and Grand Cinemas. The design
must be fulfilling the business process which is to allow the users and staff to perform the
functionality online. The requirement of the organization has also been considered which was to
avoid the staff to be present at the booking desk all the time and allowing to book the tickets
from anywhere in the theatre.
Discussion on similar interfaces
The applications considered for the design of Yours choice are HOYTS Australia and Grand
Cinemas. The link between HOYTS and Grand cinemas are

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.grandcinemas.grandcinemas. The design
has been influenced by both of these application’s designs. As both, the applications provide the
functionality of letting the user select the movie ticket and additional features also. The display
of show times of available movies is similar in Grand cinemas and Yours choice application. The
overall interface, display options, label, icon design have been influenced by HOYTS
application. The Grand cinema application doesn’t let the user enter the theatre without showing
the bar code generated which again increase the wait time of the customer., hence Yours choice
is better because it can print the ticket. The HOYTS app lets the user select three nearby cinemas
only to select the movies thereby limiting the options of a user. The HOYTS application let the

user buy food and drinks along with the tickets which can be implemented in Yours choice also.
The grand cinema allows the users to watch the trailer and provide memberships to enhance the
user experience.

Conclusion
The application Yours choice has been built by evaluating the designs of similar movie ticket
booking system available. The display of show times of available movies is similar in Grand
cinemas and Yours choice application. The overall interface, display options, label, icon design
have been influenced by HOYTS application. In order to make a design good, there are certain
principles which should be followed, the principles influenced my design was Nielsen’s heuristic
principle.
