Reflection on Skills Development in Higher Education

This report is a reflection on the development and importance of various academic skills. INTRODUCTION
A learner need to learn many skills to use them in academic life. In academics, a student
is responsible to learn and implement various useful skills in daily life to give the best
performance in an academic session. This reflection discusses importance of skills in academic
life.
ASSESSMENT 1
A. Portfolio Contribution One
In the previous weeks I learned that library and electronic resources are too effective
source of learning. During my academics, I have used library and electronic resources to improve
my various skills. Now I completely understand the value of these sources. On the other side,
planning is another useful term which everyone need to learn it, because with effective planning
everyone can easily achieve own targets and goals in decided time period. That's why now I
completely know value of effective planning in academic life. Many times we face different
situations in learning time period, in which planning is the best key to deal with these situations
(Dwesini, 2017). Then next one is note taking, in which it is too useful in collection of various
productive information’s in academics. In my classroom, we need to collect different in
information or knowledge from various sources, like library, internet, television, etc. My opinion
is, note taking is the most appropriate way to collect different knowledge and learnings.
Building a bibliography is another term under learning, because bibliography is too
important in addressing authorship, publication of books & journals etc. According to my
knowledge bibliography is a way to give credit to those people who have helped us for learning
different skills. On the other side, new I have completely understood concept of plagiarism.
According to plagiarism, a learner no need to harm other's intellectual property by coping their
content or additional things. In this case, everyone should understand role of plagiarism in
learning time period. Lastly, I need to find and review different sources of information as a
learner, because these are the sources which can improve my all skills. Mainly books & journals,
magazines, internet, newspapers, television etc. are some major sources of information
(Matteson, Anderson and Boyden, 2016). In my classroom, I have taken these sources major to
improve my various skills.

B. Portfolio Contribution Two
I still need to learn more skills which will help in improving my all over performance.
Firstly I need to learn reflection skills which can play great role in academic life, because when
we reflect on any topic, then we can completely understand all concepts on that particular topic.
That's why reflection ability are too necessary in our academic life. I'm a learner, so currently I
must learn role of reflection in daily routine. Then next one is communication skills, these skills
are most important to each person in around the world according to my experience. Reason is, a
learner who has very effective communication skills is fast growing itself in comparison of other
learners in academics. I highly need to improve these skills, because once I have improved my
communication skills, then I will capable to put great impression on other person in any
particular conversation. That's why these skills are too important to me.
There are essay and report writing ability which I need to improve. Then debating is
another major tool to me, because with this I can easily debate in classroom and online with
others. Presentation abilities are those abilities which a person always needed. For example; in
academics, in professional life, in entrepreneurship etc. I can effectively present my point of
view in the front of others with presentation. That's why I need to improve them as well. Then
time-management also necessary to me, because this will give opportunity to me for perfectly
managing my precious time for to complete my different tasks on time (Kaur, 2018). At the end,
revision strategies which every leaner need to employ in their daily routine for remembering all
things it has learner. These all are some major skills and abilities which I highly need to improve
in my academic to learn many new things. If I will succeed in these skills, then I can easily do
my best in different academic sessions. These skills are really very important to me, because I
can boost my all over performance in academics with the support of these skills.
C. Portfolio Contribution Three
In the time of studying, I face different challenges which are negatively influencing my
performance in academics. In this case, I highly need to properly deal with these challenges.
Improper time management, poor communication, lack of knowledge etc. are some major
challenges within academics which me and many other learners have faced in our learning or
studying time period. To overcome these challenges, I will firstly use time-management strategy
which will help in dealing with improper time management challenge. I will improve my
communication skills which will support me to overcome challenge of poor communication, and

finally I will collect different learning source, like books, journals, magazines etc. which will
support me to properly deal with lack of skill knowledge challenge. I can join a training class
also, where a trainer will support me to overcome these challenges in academics. Many other
supports are also available to me like, internet, coach, informative blogs etc. which will support
me to productively face different challenges in learning time period (O'Brien, 2017). Finally, I
will use time-management skills to systematically manage my time in academic sessions. Reason
is, these skills will help me to ensure me to stay on progressive track. These are some productive
ways to me to overcome different challenges within academic sessions.
CONCLUSION
It can be concluded that in the learning time period, a learner need various skills to do
their best in different academic sessions. These skills help to overcome many academics
challenges, because a leaner face many challenges in its time period of studying.
