MAIN BODY
Literature Review on team development theories
As per the view point of Natvig, and Stark, (2016), in order to perform any task effectively, team
working as essential. Tuckman team development model helps in developing an effective team.
This model consists of five stages including forming, storming, norming, performing and
adjoining. All these five stages help in developing an effective team. In the forming stage, team
is assembled and each member is provided with a task. They do not know each other and behave
independently. In storming stage, team initiates to address their allocated task and suggest ideas.
The members of team might disagree from the suggestions of one another their personalities may
clash. In the third stage, harmonious relationship is developed among the team members and they
started appreciating strength of each other. In the performing stage, all the members are
motivated, confident and familiar enough to work coordinator with the team members. They all
work together and accomplish their goals. The last stage of adjoining is the phase where all the
members of team disbands.
As per the view point of Senaratne and Gunawardane, (2015), there are 9 team roles
identified in the Belbin team roles model. These tiles are categorized into three groups, thought
oriented, action oriented and people oriented. The action oriented rules include role of shaper,
completer finisher and implementer. The thought focused roles includes role of plantar, monitor
evaluator and specialist. And the people oriented roles includes role of coordinator, resource
investigator and team worker.

Application of team roles by using theories in workplace
During working in Saco Serviced Apartments, as a Head Housekeeper my key
responsibilities includes dealing with suppliers of cleaning materials, linen and guest supplies
including soap, shampoo etc. I am also responsible for controlling supply cost, scheduling staff
rotas, overseeing supervisors and cleaning supplies staff etc. While working in the organisation, I
need to ensure that I perform all my responsibilities effectively in the organisation. There are
several team building skills which helped me in performing my responsibilities effectively. As a
head housekeeper, I have to perform several roles including role of implementer, team worker,
coordinator, resource investigator, monitor, evaluator, specialist etc. I am responsible to ensure
that all the supplies are available in the organisation and guests are provided with good services
(Driskell, Salas, and Driskell, 2018). In order to accomplish this, I worked in the team with my
team members and assigned each member with the specific roles to be performed by them. In
order to ensure effective team working, the very first and foremost thing that I need to done as
developing an effective team. For developing an effective team, I make use of Tuckman team
development model. In the first stage, build up a team and assigned the members with their
responsibilities. I support each team member and provide them with direction to perform their
roles effectively and accomplish their tasks. In the second stage, the conflict occurs among team
members as their personalities clash.
I faced some difficulties in this stage as a lot of conflicts were raised among the team
members which were difficult to resolve. However, with the help of my effective problem
solving skills, I was able to resolve their conflicts effectively. In the third stage, all the members
were familiar with each other and perform their task collectively and co-ordinately. They all now
appreciate the capabilities and strength of each other and learn from them. In the fourth stage, all
the members of team work effectively towards achievement of goal (Driskell, Driskell, Burke,
and Salas, 2017). And when the goal was attained, all the team members separated with each
other. In between this, I performed the role of completer the finisher in which I need to ensure
that the goal is achieved effectively. I also performed the role of monitor evaluator where I
monitored the performance of team members at each stage and making impartial judgements
wherever required as well as weigh up the options of team in dispassionate way. Both the
frameworks, Tuckman team development model and Belbin team roles, helped me in performing
my roles effectively as a head housekeeper and attaining the goals of company.

this, my team working skills helped me a lot in performing all the tasks appropriately. With the
assistance of team development models, I was able to develop effective team and implement all
my roles properly. The overall experience of performing of performing my responsibilities was
excellent. However, at the point where a lot of conflicts raised among the team members, I faced
difficulties in resolving those issues (Allan and Driscoll, 2014). However, with the help of my
effective conflict resolution skills, I was able to resolve those conflicts effectively. From the
overall experience, I learnt so many things. However, I feel that I have to work more upon my
conflict resolution skills. In order to enhance this skill, I will maintain positive attitude, stay calm
and practice active listening and communication which will help in improving my skills. This
will also help me in performing my roles and responsibilities more effectively in future.
