Introduction
Team building skills are one of the most important skills that re required by an individual
in order to work effectively within a team so that desired aim and objectives can be achieved
(Thomas, Morin and Kira, 2017). In this assessment refection upon experience of working within
a team to deliver online presentation in a team will be explained. For this reflection Kolb’s
reflective cycle will be used.
Demonstrate successful team building skills to meet realistic and achievable
goals
Kolb’s experimental learning theory is a kind of model which is used for reflecting one’s
own knowledge and experience and things that have been learnt from that experience is
reflected. Kolb’s reflectively cycle consist of four main stages though which my experience of
working in a team for delivering online presentation will be elaborated in a detailed manner.
Concrete Experience: At this stage new situation or experience encountered is explained. I was
required to deliver an online presentation with my team members and successfully delivered an
effective presentation. This experience made me realize that there were various kinds of skills
that were required in building an effective team and for delivering an effective presentation.
Reflective observation of new experience: Analysing one own and my team’s performance I
realized that one of the most important factors that resulted in out team presentation success was
team building. We used Belbin team building theory. This theory says that there are nine
important roles that together makes an effective team (Robertson, 2019). Nine main roles of
Belbin team role theory are: first is plant who plant creative and imaginative ideas and resolve
problems easily. Second is resource investigator who explores opportunities with others. Third is
coordinator who clarifies goals and promote decision making. Fourth is shaper who accepts
challenges and thrives under pressure (Marasi, 2019). Fifth is monitor who monitor overall
performance all the team members. Sixth is team worker who work within a team and fulfil
responsibilities given to them. Seventh is implementer who acts on ideas to be implemented.
Next is complete finisher who search for errors and last is specialist who provides special
knowledge abut the topic.
We were only five members so we distributed these roles and responsibilities within
ourselves as per our strengths, weaknesses and skills. Usage of this theory helped in building an
effective team and also helped in increasing understanding with other. There were various kinds

of team building skills that helped me in fulfilling my role as a planter, resource investigator and
team workers. Some of these skills were: I had complete knowledge of ways in which online
presentation can be created, I had knowledge of conducting academic resources using books,
Journals, articles, internet etc. Other than this I have problem solving skills and excellent
communication skills. Out of all of these team building skills I had used communication skills
for communicating my ideas with others, listened to other ideas or issues with patience. I used by
online presentation skills for creation of presentation and making sure it is delivered in a proper
manner. Majorly I used by academic skills in collecting important resources and information for
development of effective presentation.
We had outlined and divided team task equally within ourselves which further helped in
completion of presentation on time, effectively. First of all, whole presentation topic was divided
into five equal parts and each member were provided with their parts. One of the was provided
with a responsibility of compiling every one’s work and finding errors or issues within it so that
it can be resolved in a proper manner. this helped us in achieving out desired goal and objective
in a better manner.
Abstract conceptualization: At this stage learning experience is concluded. When the
presentation was completed successfully, we all were provided with some remarks from lecturer
about future improvements or modification that can be made by us while delivering online
presentation. From this learning I found that there are various kinds of team skills that are still
required to be developed within me such as leadership skill. I am good as a team worker but I
still lack leadership skills for taking effective decisions. Other than this I also needed to work
upon my creativity skills so that improvement within presentation can be brought. Other than this
also need to bring improvement within my time management skills.
Active experimentation: I will try to work upon my leadership and creativity skills. I will try to
participate more in team working activities so that I can enhance my leadership and creativity
skills in a much better and appropriate manner. I will also try to work upon improving my time
management skills by developing a schedule, setting time lines to be achieved.
Conclusion
From the above report I have identified that there are various kinds of team building
skills that are required to be present that not only helps in working effectively and development
of an effective team within a team but also helps in achieving desired goals and objectives of a

team. It has also been concluded that in order to work effectively within a team and achieve
desired results in a timely manner it is important to use an appropriate team building theory so
that a proper and efficient team can be developed with least number of issues and pre- defined
roles and responsibilities of each and every member.
