INTRODUCTION
Success means an effective and timely achievement of one's goals and ambitions in way
that is planned and desirable (Sablina and et. al., 2018). It is a very crucial aspect for which each
work performed by an individual or organisation is directed to. Hence, below is an essay which
is based on the job role of a restaurant manager, and includes demonstration of experience of
effective communication process which enhance the performance. The second part of the report
is related to reflecting fof how working and communicating in a professional context influenced
individual performance, behaviour and experience.
PART A
Overview of the Model
Driscoll's Model of reflection is one appropriate framework in relation to reflecting the
past experiences by exploring different stages of experiential life cycle, along with adding certain
trigger questions that are required to be answered to reflect appropriately (Cottrell, 2017).
What?
It was during the time that I was placed as a Restaurant Manager within a prominent
restaurant within the UK, where I was responsible to handle a team of multi-cultural individuals,
along with working with diverse colleagues on a daily basis. It allowed me to exercise my
communication skills in a manner which could help me make my instructions and information
understood to all the people working with or below me. During that time, there was a big event
that was required to take place which required all the team members to indulge in
communication in a consistent and effective manner. During the event, I was in charge of
appropriately and effectively managing each and every resource, individual, along with technical
resources that were necessary to organise the event within the firm. When the event was
proposed by the client, I was quite nervous, as the event was to be held in a very big scale. There
were certain individuals involved within the same, for instance, the team of restaurant
management, technicians, event managers, along with workers and kitchen team that were
supporters within the event. All these members were very enthusiastic to work within the event.

So What?
As mentioned above, I was quite nervous as such a big task requires effective
contribution and I was quite new in dealing with multi-cultural workforce. Hence, during the
event I was quite anxious and tensed for the event to be organised effectively. I guess my
feelings were not so different from other people involved, as it was quite new experience for all
the members of the event. Currently I am feeling quite confident and enthusiastic from my
experience as a manager.
However, there are several things in relation t communication for which I am still
troubled. For instance, while I was very much effective in coordinating the work, however, I did
not know the languages of other employees effectively, which made it difficult to spontaneously
allocate tasks and explain them the requirements. Moreover, the teamwork aspect was quite
appropriately managed by me as the tasks were collectively achieved. However, there was an
instant involving individuals with conflicts that were inappropriately handled by me due to lack
of persuasion and assertiveness. The effects of the same was that the time for completing certain
activities got missed, which created pressure for all the members.
Through this event, there were certain positive aspects which emerged throughout
(Chodkiewicz and Boyle, 2017). For example, it provided me insight towards my strong and
weaker skills, along with helping me towards being culturally sound and knowledgeable, along
with adding to my experience. I noticed that my behaviour was quite soothing and cooperative to
deal with different employees altogether. Moreover, my colleagues praised my management and
technical skills for the success of the event.
Now What?
The implications related to the same on me and others was that all of us were quite
enriched towards different aspect of management and teamwork which is a positive implication.
I believe it will make a major difference if I choose to do nothing as in order to grow and
improve, respective actions are necessary to be taken.
Hence, if I face similar situation again, I would be gathering information from seminars
and feedbacks. Moreover, cross cultural communication and conflict management through
persuasion must be addressed by me first. Moreover, the main learning from the overall
experience was that effective communication and its various principles are important to deal in a
multi-cultural setting and ensure that targets are achieved effectively.

PART B
Working professionally and communicating within the same has influenced my
individual performance, behaviour and experience in a positive manner (Coty and Vauthier,
2018). This is because it helped me in enhance my knowledge related to different cultures,
practices and norms that are related to communication. Moreover, I realised that persuasion and
assertiveness are essentials to deal with various conflicts within the organisation.
CONCLUSION
Thus, it is concluded from the report above that effective communication is very
necessary in order to enhance the flow of information within an organisation. Using Driscoll's
Model of reflection is quite crucial in providing a structure to the information presented and
reflecting on the same in an appropriate format. Lastly, it is necessary to determine how the
communication has influenced individual performance, behaviour and experience.
