SKILL 1
What is the core skill to develop?
The core skill here to be developed is that of Focus and Attention.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevant
theories and concepts to support your answer)
Getting up focus and attention will be very much essential and required so that person is able
to have sustained focus and attention on whatever work they are doing or is trying to do
(Travers, Morisano and Locke, 2015). Focused attention will be that ability of human brain
that is allowing or helping them to concentrate on their target. This is that type attention that
would be making possible detection of relevant stimuli including both external and internal
one. This core skill is very much important part of any human life that would help them to
better concentrate and to be able to achieve targets more frequently.
For this sustained attention is the concept which could be applied that includes the
ability of person to focus on any sort of activity for longer period of time. Thus making it
easy to concentrate on activities and taking shorter time to finish it.

The focus and attention skill is currently lacking within myself. I have noticed it
several time that I’m not having focused attention while doing any sort of work or
accomplishing of my targets. My peers and tutor also indicated several time the same thing
that I’m not focused in respect to my working or doing any other task on regular bases.
There were multiple time encounter events with me that suggested that I should be
developing my focus and attention skill so that I could be able to achieve targets.
As per my view this skill is very much important for me that would allow me to
explore new possibilities and opportunity to grow in my professional and personal life.

However, all what is been included by my peers and tutor I could be finding certain
contradictions between their and my viewpoint in regard to my skill of focused attention. As
per my view I’m having certain degree of focused attention is there within myself. I’m
having focus on my working and task completion but not to the level at which tutor and
peers are taking about. So I also think that I must be doing something to improve my focused
attention skill which will help me in my future growth and proficiency.

Focused and attention is that skill which is very much helpful for me in future. This
will be helping me to do number of possible activities in daily life and turning my mental
focus depending upon focused attention.
SKILL 2
What is the core skill to develop?
The second core skill that needs to be developed is that of Negotiation.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevant

Negotiation is that skill which helps people to settle the conflicts, problems and issue arising
between two or more other people (Dean, Little and Dunn, 2017). In way of settling the
difference between people this negotiation skill will be very much important. Under this type
of skill it becomes easy to reach out towards specified solution in way of avoiding arguments
and disputes as well. This will be benefitting in resolving any sort of difference that is there
within me and others. I have selected this skill to reflect upon as need of negotiation could
arise at any point of time that would ne involving certain set of skills like that of emotional
control, preparation, problem analysis and active listening as well.
Negotiation theory will mean individuals making interactive and distinct decisions.
There will be certain foundation for the negotiation theory like that of analysis, game theory,
decision analysis and behavioural decision making.

Thus there will be 5 important aspect of this negotiation skill like that of compromise,
collaborate, accommodate, avoid and compete. That would be very important within the
negotiating with 2 or more people.

As per the view of my peers and seniors I’m not possessing the skill of negotiation as
there was a point of time when I was not able to resolve the conflict which took place
between me and one of my colleague. So with this event I understood that my negotiation
skills are not there within myself which could create bigger problems in coming future. This
is important skill which I need to possess to be within the post in my company so that I could
be negotiating with others on every part.

There is perfect match between what I see myself and what other people see me as. I
think the same as others that I’m not having the skill to negotiate with the situation and to
influence others with my decision making skills. Thus I see myself on the urge of improving
the particular quality and skill. Negotiation skill will help me in identifying what is right and
what is wrong given in particular situation. I also think that I must be improving my
negotiation skill so that this will be possible for me to distinguish between the positive and
negative aspect of conflict of interest.

The particular skill of negotiation will be helping me in my coming future as I would
be getting some more opportunity to build up my career where I would be getting chance to
meet different type of people. The people with whom I would be meeting will be of different
nature and behaviour with whom I might have argument so there I should know how to
handle the particular situation. In my future I will be having better chance of negotiating and
dealing with people so I should know how to come up on particular results or conclusion
favouring both the parties involves. As said by my senior I will be getting opportunity in
coming future to show my talent of leading team so there it is very much important to
negotiate with my team members.

The third core skill which I need to develop is that of time management.

Time management is that skill which helps people into process of planning and exercising
conscious control of time in way of understanding specified activities and increasing
effectiveness and productivity as well (Graham, Harris and Santangelo, 2015). To manage
all work on timely bases in way of effectively dealing out with coming events is very much

important that would allow people to manage priorities. Working in stipulated time, giving
each activity specified time and not wasting much time will also be very much essential in
managing the time of people. This skill is having essential within my working and learning
process which includes that if my time is managed than I could be able to perform all other
task as well. for this it is essential that I’m planning in most effective and proper manner like
setting priorities of work so that I could be to identify which task is important than others.
For this time management theory could be implemented which includes process of planning

in order to complete all task and work on time. This is also according to my self-assessment
findings that I’m not having time management skills.

There was not sever contradiction between my self-assessment and others review from peers
and senior. The thinking of me and others are same in context of me as they also think as I’m
not been able to manage my time throughout the period or while doing my work. I have
encountered it several time that I was not able to manage all my work on timely bases like
for example many time I use to stretch my working hours and sit late to complete my work.
How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument)
This skill is very much helpful for me in coming future as I would be able to conduct all my

work on time with having time to focus on other work as well. I will be able to resolve
number of work related issues and then evaluating my progress which is good for me only.
Helping others due to my managed work is also another useful part of my time management
skills.

The fourth and last skill is that of public speaking.

Public speaking is that ability of person to be able to speak in front of large number of
people. This is the process of communicating information to all audience and is done before
large number of people like that of school or within work (Wollscheid, Sjaastad and Tømte,
2016). There are certain benefits for speaking out in public like person would know how to
communicate so that audience are able to critically thinking and including verbal or non-
verbal communication skills as well. This skill I have selected as it is very much important
for everyone to speak about their views and thought among public without any sort of
hesitation. This speaking up in public is very much important skill that allows people to be
open and free about what they are thinking so that they could communicate.

I’m very much good at speaking about my thoughts, views and ideas among people so that

pursued by me. I’m very good at speaking in front of many people which I have developed
since my childhood by taking part at many competition like that of debate. This was also
proven by my peers and senior that my communication skills at larger public are very good.

Once my boss has given me chance to give presentation in front of clients which was very
successfully given by me.
So this is proven that my public speaking skill is very good and it is important part of my
career as well.
