ACC4025: Reflective Report on Digital Skills and Literacy

INTRODUCTION
Learning in the digital world and the age where digital media, tools and applications plays a very
important role in day to day life as well as in development of people. E-learning is a new trend
which is being flourishing in the market and around the world in education and training sector.
Earlier when e-learning was discovered it was only identified as a source which is useful for
people to learn and elaborate their knowledge by supporting their current or existing activities.
Nowadays, is bin turned around, e-learning not just a way to learn it is becoming a vital and
essential source for students to learn and educate. The present report is a reflective summary of
what I have learnt during the whole semester while acquiring digital skills for succeed in the
current aggressively and actively enhancing digital world.
MAIN BODY
Access information online
The first area of discussion for the reflective assessment of the course work in regards to my
digital learning abilities and journey in which I first received my certificate is off access
information online. Researching on a particular topic in earlier period used to be done through
books, libraries, newspaper articles and with more primary sources which requires in depth
investigation and analysis. With the passage of time scenarios have changed and so as the
researching practices as well as criteria’s.
Today people have internet which brings huge power towards human beings to stay at one place
and gather all different types of information as well as data through different sources available
online from all over the world. During my studies and skill development sessions where I was
gaining understanding and knowledge about accessing information online there are a number of
skills which were its essential for me and which are used like data and information collection as
well as my critical thinking skills.
While I was going through the course work I understood that there are two types of research
conducting techniques or processes that are known as primary and secondary sources. According
to the changes taking place in digital environment both the techniques can be used for
conducting investigation and collecting data digitally. Primary research techniques helps
individuals to attend new information and insight in regards to a particular topic by taking help
of different surveys and questionnaires. Another researching method which is helpful and proven

to be useful for me is secondary research technique where I made use of my critical thinking
skills in order to sort the infinite amount of information available online and acquire only the
required information in regards to my topic and researching area.
Collaborate and manage content digitally
The second certificate which I collected through my digital literacy me and digital skills course
work is off collaborating and managing content digitally. Internet is a wide platform with a
number of information and data available on it from infinite resources which is regularly being
updated and upgraded in milliseconds. Information collaboration and Management digitally an
easy task to conduct with simple processes and techniques.
While I was preparing and learning through my course work to get my certificate in regards to
the area of collaboration and managing content digitally I gathered number of learnings and
literacy different teachings provided to me. In relation with collaborating and managing data
digitally good teaching work provided to us in the course work about the different report writing
practices, presentations, e-portfolios, blogs, literature review etc.
At the time of my learnings these are the certain tools and techniques which were emphasised by
the tutor in regards to helping us in collaborating and managing our information and data
collected online on the digital tools. For example report writing is one technique which I was
really found very interesting and value adding because It helped me in in collecting all my notes
properly in report according to the topic and area of discussion which is going on in the as well
as this technique also helped me in developing my projects with appropriate formatting and
structuring of the report as per requirements.
In collaborating and managing the content digitally it was important for me to learn more about
information and communication technologies in order to evaluate and create effective
communication information with appropriate technical and cognitive skills. This digital literacy
help me in procuring my certificate for the topic and gain in effective skill sets for the same.
Communicate online
Digital media is a product of advancement and development taking place in technologies and
revolutionary up gradation coming up in information technology industry. Digital tools today are
used for several purposes beginning with developing a connection between people staying away
from each other in different corners of the world and needed to be connected faster and in easier
manager. Digital media enables appropriate tools and techniques to people for communicating

with one another instantly with the help of internet and social media platforms as well as other
digital platforms too.
Communication with the help of online resources and techniques is an easy task in which I
received more understanding and efficiency by gaining more abilities in regards to digital
literacy. This is a phenomenal which renders people appropriate knowledge and information
about different communication technologies with focusing on finding out, evaluating, creating
and communicating information to others. At the time of my course work online communication
and its number of tools available on the Internet like social media, emails, website etc were
introduced with in depth understanding and insight of different features associated with these
applications to be used as effective communication tools on internet.
Create digital content
Creating digital content is a very critical and crucial ability which requires huge practice and
highly professional skill set. there are a number of different types of digital content available
online on internet like blogs, written reports, articles, news, vlogs, literature review, research
articles, research papers, creative content and image content. All these different types of contents
are part of digital content which are presented by different individuals around the world or the
globe on internet on different platforms and pages that are handled online with internet.
According to these different digital content the one which we were studying in our course work
and provided appropriate information about are literature review, report writing and blogging.
Literature review is an article which curses and analyse a particular information and publish it
online in the specific subject area, respective situation and the criteria on which the outcomes are
judged. Literature review not only provides information about the certain topic but also renders
information about the sources along with advisors about then letters and articles which can be
very helpful for readers as they are relevant and prominent enough to the discussed topic.
In early ages a blog was defined as more of a personal content that people and individuals used
to share online where they used to talk about the daily activities for experience is received as
well as share information about what they are exactly doing. This provided the birth of a
beautiful world of blogging a unique opportunity for people to communicate information in a
new attractive manner by using online means. According to today a blog is an online journal or
informational website which displays respective information or data which reverse chronological
order where the latest data for post appeared first on the top. Blogging is a unique instrument and

a platform where a writer or different writers in a group can effectively share their views on a
specific subject and area.
While we were learning and gaining an understanding about different digital content that can be
produced and used for publishing it online and other important skill which I received is of report
writing an disciplined manner. According to my learning I understood that report writing is a
process which is aimed towards being informed and persuaded. Therefore, a report have to be
always written clearly and as informative as a possible providing evidence about each topic that
is being discussed in the report, the problems and different situations which are being discussed.
Participate safely and responsibly online
Another certification area for the topic on which I received my I certificate is of participation
safely and responsibility on online platforms. As it is known that everything has its positive and
negative aspects according to efficiency and effectiveness. In regards to internet, digitalization,
advancement in technologies and revolutionary changes taking place in information technology
industry do have its positive influences and significant advantages for different areas and
businesses around The World along all the human beings as well who are interested in making
the best of the resource provided.
But this is not a simple task to conduct with different benefits and objectives of the criteria there
are a number of disadvantages attached to it as well. A major concern which is being raised is in
regards to security and safety while using internet and browsing online. In regards to the same
we were critically engaged in in learning about digital literacy and gathering appropriate
information as well as skill set in regards to the same. Digital literacy is one ability which offered
me a strong source of understanding about different concepts in regards to providing security and
safety to my work which is being produced online. I made use of effective time management
skills in order to protect my data and work online. Strong time management abilities enhanced
my understanding about the division of tasks that I need to perform for conducting each activity
and completing it on time for being safe from any malpractice and unfavourable result.
Work with computers
The last but not the least area of consideration in which I received my certification is of working
on computers and effectively using it for complete in my work and assignment. This is the last
certificate which I received in regards to my digital skills and digital literacy for succeeding in
the digital world which is been flourishing today. Computer is a technological device which was

founded many years ago by scientists and which serves as a basic requirement for digitalization
to be effectively taking place.
Computers is a resource which helps people to connect with Internet and make use of different
social media as well as other platforms to stay connected and gathering all sort of different
information required by them. In my course work while I was learning more about computers
and digital literacy I understood a very basic requirement for using computers is to know more
about time management skills and creative content. Computer can be a destructive resource as
well where as a human being I can waste a lot of precious time of myself which can be
practically used in other areas.
Thus, when I was learning about computers my tutor also emphasized on effective time
management skills to be utilised while I am using computers for my benefits and comfort. With
the help of better time management skills I got to understand my requirement to be critically
evaluate about the certain information and data presented on the internet founded on the
computer in regards to how much of it useful and worthy of the time imposed on it.
CONCLUSION
Form the discussion and evaluation conducted in the above reflective report it can be concluded
that digital literacy is a wide concept which provides a number of information and data to
individuals as well as very type of skill sets to perform the gathered information in practical
manner. In regards to the above reflective report it is identified that there are number of skills
which can be developed by an individual while learning more about digital literacy and the
digital world which is being developed outside. So important for individuals to learn and keep
themselves upgraded about the digital techniques and tools today for staying upgraded and
updated.
