INTRODUCTION
Social media is considered as the effective platform which provides support to businesses
organisations in enhancing their brand awareness among customers. Social media is the
advanced technological form of tool which helps business organisations in developing their
positive relationship with the customers as well as other associated people that ultimately helps
them out in improvising their business performance in adequate manner (Wilhelm, 2016).
Reflective writing is determined as the effective practice through which individual goes through
their own experience related to the particular situation or event. With present context, this section
of the project is performed in the form of reflective writing format.
Main Body
I have conducted research on the topic “Impact of using social media in business
performance”. This topic was finalised by analysing overall present situation of the external
market which helps businesses in developing their understanding over the latest technology that
is being used by companies at external marketplace. This investigation was conducted for
Sainsbury’s a well known retail company of UK (Mannay, 2015). For conducting this
investigation in adequate manner I have personally developed the team of some researchers and
an intern who has further provided me support in conducting the investigation in adequate
manner that will further support in drawing valid outcome on the proposed topic. Here, I have
initially formulated team who have collaboratively work together to develop effective aim on
research topic.
Later, I have developed suitable research aim from the mentioned topic. The developed
research aim for the research topic is “To determine the impact of using social media in business
performance”. After development of effective research aim, research objectives were developed
by the investigation team. The main reason of developing research objective is bifurcate overall
research aim into small sections so that the overall research team can effective gather
information on the topic in small-small sections can further conclude it effectively. The main
reason behind conducting this investigation is to develop understanding on retail industry
especially Sainsbury’s that how they can effectively make use of latest technology and perform
their business activities and attain success in the adequate manner (Pohl, Krütli and Stauffacher,

by which they can attract maximum number of customers towards them that leads to
enhancement of sales performance as well profitability of the company. Apart from this I have
also realised that social media is also used by business organisation as the promotional tool that
popularise products and services offered by them company in adequate manner.
The overall results result obtained from me and my team members depicts that social
media has both the positive as well as negative influence over the businesses. This simply means
that if any company acquires social media as the promotional tool then at one end it brings range
of benefits for the company at the same time on another side it puts negative impact over the
same company (Garcia and et. al., 2015). From my personal experience as well as information
drawn from the literature review section, the positive side of the using social media for business
organisations is enhancement of brand awareness at marketplace, attracting larger number of
customers, increasing sales performance as well as overall performance of the company.
Whereas, if it is talked about negative experience related to the same, it can be said that the study
has revealed that it requires lots of money to develop effective base on the social media. Also, it
requires trained staff that can handle social account and remain active on it 24*7 so that adequate
response could be provided to the customers on timely manner. Later I have also identified that
adoption of social media as the promotional tool could also create lots of issues for the company
as there are probable chances that customers or others can put negative comment on company’s
profile which will directly place negative impact over the image of the company. Even though,
the company is making use of advance technology but still it is not having any option to delete
the negative comment from the profile page.
