INTRODUCTION
Reflection is defined as process of revising faced experiences, course of action and
activities to learn something from them. Reflective essays constitute a critical examination of a life
experience and with the right guidance, they aren’t very difficult to put together. The purpose of
writing a reflective essay is to provide a platform for the author to not only recount a particular life
experience, but to also explore how he or she has changed or learned from those experiences.
Reflective writing can be presented in various formats, but most often sees it in a learning log
format or diary entry. In this reflective essay, I am going to explore about my experience which I
gained in my life. I was working in Sainsbury PLC, there were many different people from different
religions. My position was in management and operation in which I was as a manager of the
department. In that organisation I encountered many people of different culture, religions. There I
realised that all were doing work as a team and with mutual corporation which reflects their
background & thinking towards each other. In this reflective essay topic which is being focused is
'Equality and Diversity'. In Sainsbury PLC, due to presence of equality & diversity, I realised that
there were people who respect each other culture and religions. Having diverse workforce means
that the organisation can offer a wide range of ideas, skills, resources and energies to the business to
give it a competitive edge. There is a much wider pool of talent available to the organisations which
embrace diversity, and they will reap the benefits of a broader market, improved productivity and a
raised profile within the community. From this experience I gained deep knowledge about different
cultures, there thinking and examine their way of dealing with people. Further, I too analysed that
with focusing on equality & diversity it is easy to manage work at workplace and problems are
eliminated at broader level. Thus, from my experience I recommend that to work and accomplish
goals, it is essential to adapt equality and diversity in organisation. Thesis statement-
(IMPLICIT)- Equality and Diversity is important to be adopted by corporate sector so that there is
establishment of positive relationship at workplace. From my own experience, I examined that by
working with equal and diversify workforce, effectiveness of work increases more. Description of
personal experience- The main message which is being produced is that by organisation can
explore more opportunity and enhance their productivity by carrying out the equality at all aspect
of business. Moreover, from my personal experience I was also from different culture but people
who were already working at firm meet with me in a friendly and positive way. This increases my
morale and motivation scale at higher level. It also improved my level of understanding at depth.
So, it is necessary to treat every employee in with equal way & without any discrimination. Hence,

to achieve goals and objectives within period of time & without facing any issues the principles of
E and D are essential to be adopted by every enterprise.
Equality and diversity plays an important role in every organisation as it assist company to give
equal and fair treatment to its employees in an appropriate manner. Nowadays, almost all the
organisation did not discriminate people as they embrace diversity that involve all different type of
backgrounds and culture of people living in the society. It is important for an organisation to not
discriminate among employees on the basis of age, gender and racism. It help company to develop s
positive mind set of employees and also assist in building a positive brand image at marketplace.
According to my experience and lesson learned by me in my previous organisation that is
Sainsbury’s, it is analyzed by me that company believes in maintain equality at workplace and
follow all the laws and legislation that give equality to the employees. It is observed by me that
maintain equality and diversity in organisation help company to satisfy its employees due to which
they work with full potential to meeting with the targets of company. In addition to this, it is
determined that it also help company to improve its performance and productivity level in an
appropriate way. Moreover, it also assist company such as Sainsbury’s to develop its brand image in
market that has positive impact on its customer base level. It is analysed by me that company make
use of various strategies and practices in order to implement and maintain equality at workplace.
These are providing equal opportunity to men and women as it help in developing positive mind set
of people towards brand. Along with this, the higher authorities of Sainsbury’s allow employees to
participate in the decision making process in order to give their ideas and suggestions. It motivate
employees and make them feel valued as well as important at workplace. Furthermore, it also assist
company to take an effective decision that is beneficial for both the employees and company as
well. It is analyzed by me that companies faces various challenges in implementing equality and
diversity within the organisation such as some employees are not agree with higher authorities that
leads to chaos at workplace and impact negatively on performance of company. It is observed by
me during performing my job role that Sainsbury’s is facing issue at workplace because of different
opinions of employees towards a particular task. This arise confusion and misunderstanding among
employees due to which company is not able to meet with the targets and its performance level is
declining. For this, the higher authorities of company is promoting equality at workplace and give
equal chance to each and every employee to give their suggestions and views. This decline the level
of negativity of employees and help organisation to take effective and better decision that help in
raising performance in an appropriate manner. Moreover, it is observed by me that maintain
equality and diversity at workplace help in motivating people to work with full zeal and attain
objectives within stipulated time period. Along with this, it is learnt by me that equality and
diversity plays an important role in every organisation as it assist in implementation of activities

and functions in an effective and systematic manner. It also encourage employees to remain with
company for longer time period. It is observed by me that Sainsbury’s is able to provide positive
and healthy working environment to its employees by adopting effective practices of equality and
diversity within the organisation. It is learnt by me that embracing diversity assist company to bring
out creative and new ideas that impact positively on productivity and profitability of company.
CONCLUSION
From above points it is concluded that effective equality and diversity practices have
assisted in promotion of equal opportunities for all employees at workplace. It helps in ensuring that
organisation is having compliance with all laws and there are equal opportunities that are offered to
employees irrespective of the caste or culture to which they belong. As in my reflections, I stated
that work effectiveness increases when there is presence of equality and diversity which is true
because it employees works more with positive mind & thoughts. Employers duty in present
workplace is focussed more on promotion of a quality culture so that there is positive impact on
their mindset. It has helped in respecting and valuing individuals irrespective of the differences they
posses. There has been a growth in enhancing creativity of organisation by promotion of more
innovative ideas at workplace. From my own experience I have analysed the importance of equality
as well as diversity at both personal and professional level.
