REFLECTIVE ESSAY
Leadership is all about the art of managing different type of people. Further, to manage
people in proper manner various skills and attributes are needed which leads to development of
successful leader (Bolden and Gosling, 2006). Moreover, in every organization position of leader
is most important as to work with and manage team of large number of individuals is not at all
easy (Schein, 2006). At present I am working as a large in small sized organization where my
main responsibility is to manage different individuals within a team. I have knowledge in
relation with different leadership styles through which team members are managed in effective
manner. Further, the range of styles involve autocratic, democratic etc which provides a base to
work with different individuals. Working as a leader has supported in my career development
where I have become capable to understand actual need of other employees working in the
company. Moreover, different skills are necessarily required in order to become successful leader
and this sometime leads to improvement in one’s own performance within the workplace. Apart
from this, for proper management I prefer to adopt democratic style where team members are
allowed to take part in the business affairs and all the decisions are not taken by leader on his
own.
Further, it is well known fact that every individual do not posses proper skills to become
successful leader and for the same development is necessarily required. Apart from this, as a
leader I try to motivate my team members on continuous basis as it enhances organizational
productivity. Sometime conflict in between the individuals also take place and to deal with the
same proper understanding must be present. Therefore, I mainly focus on building trust and
confidence among each and every member. Apart from this, some areas are also present where as
a leader I am not able to perform better. My decision making skills are poor and due to this my
team has to suffer. I try my level best to take accurate decisions as per situation but I have failed
my times. Therefore, I am working hard to develop this skill so that I can be a good decision
maker. Further, I welcome suggestions from my team members which can be linked with
development of team or my personal one. By undertaking this concept I was able to gain
favorable results where all the members were handled in proper manner. On the other hand, I
want to develop myself as a transformational leader where individual shares vision and motivates
the entire team. Through presence of effective motivational tools I am able to gain trust of my

team members where they actively participate in the affairs of the company. Moreover, I focus
on development of my own capability so that I can easily meet with the expectations of my team
members and this will be favorable for me. Apart from this, according to internal conditions of
the business I prefer to be transitional leader where objectives are passed on that people are
reluctant to and reward is granted on the basis of same.
