Journal and Reflective Writing
AI Summary
This reflective journal entry details a student's experience with a project design change that led to increased time and budget constraints. The student reflects on the initial project design, the realization that it would be more time-consuming than anticipated, and the subsequent need for change management. The student expresses frustration with the lack of additional resources and discusses the lessons learned, emphasizing the importance of thorough planning, risk management, and effective execution in all phases of a project to prevent issues like scope creep and integration problems. What happened?
Outline the situation.
How do I feel about it?
Identify your feelings in
relation to the situation. This
can assist in working through
negative thought patterns or
replicating constructive
thought patterns.
What did I learn?
If the lesson was negative,
what can you do to avoid a
similar situation happening in
the future? If the lesson was
positive, how can you replicate
this on future projects?
We were in charge of a
particular project and we were
proceeding with it. We had
designed the entire project
and started working on it, after
a particular part of the project
had been completed, we
realized that if we continue
with this design the entire
project would be much more
time consuming as compared
to the time that was expected.
In this case we had to change
the design, now in this case we
had brought about changes in
the design but we were nit
provided with extra budget
and time because the project
manager had already warned
us regarding the design but we
were confident in it an
continued with it. After this we
had to undergo a change
management where we had to
work more for the same
project but we were not
provided with any amount of
extra budget or time.
In this situation of the project I
was very angry because the
framework of the project had
already been prepared and we
had started working and
making investments in the
projects accordingly. I was
clueless on how to solve the
issue and manage the change
that has been brought about
within the project design.
From this particular incident I
realised that not only design
but all the parts like planning,
initiation, design and man ore
similar factors are to be
carried out in an effective
manner before a certain
project is started. This would
help a project prevent
numerous issues like scope
creep, change management,
integration, benefit shortfall,
poor quality and many more.
Besides this the risk
management strategy must
also be produced such that the
project does not face any issue
regard other factors and in
case any problem exists, the
risk management plan would
be able to detect it and use
certain strategies that could be
used for the purpose to
mitigating them.
