This reflective paper, submitted by a student, explores the application of servant leadership for newly graduated registered nurses. Part A of the paper introduces servant leadership, detailing its key characteristics such as consciousness, empathy, and active listening. It then analyzes the impact of this approach on communication, documentation, professional relationships, teamwork, scope of practice, and delegation of care, as well as its effects on the practice of quality health care. The paper also discusses opportunities for newly graduated nurses to develop leadership skills. Part B presents a critical reflection using the Gibbs Reflective Cycle, providing a personal analysis of the leadership concepts discussed in Part A. The paper concludes with a synthesis of the leadership approach and its implications for nursing practice, supported by relevant literature.
