INTRODUCTION
Reflection refers to making the use of different types of approaches in order to present
own viewpoints successfully (Bañales and et.al., 2020). It is quite crucial to ensure that a person
is able to present viewpoints in an effective manner. In this way the detailed experience during
certain activities can be shared quite effectively. In this assignment, focus will be made on
providing a reflection on the activities which were taught during a session at the university.
Additionally, it will also focus on the way knowledge and negotiation and influencing skills can
be applied to achieve a set objective in the future.
MAIN BODY
Reflective log
Scenario- I am a student who is studying at an university. As students, we are required
by our university that we take part in different types of activities which can lead towards our
development in the future. Therefore I ensure that I take part in these activities so that I can
ensure my development. As a part of these activities, we were required to attend a session which
was held in our university. In the session which lasted over 5 weeks we were taught about
different types of skills and we were given details about how we can enhance them so that we
can achieve success in the future. Thus, I will provide a detailed reflection of the experience
which I had during this session so that I can reflect.
Gibbs' reflective cycle- This model is used for the purpose of providing a detailed
reflection on a particular experience which a person has had in the past (Bieleke and et.al., 2017).
Thus this cycle is quite useful for a person to reflect back on the experience and identify the
areas for improvement if any.
The model has different types of stages. They have been explained as follows-
Description- As students in the university we were required to attend a session in which
different types of activities were conducted (Chiarello, Ferri and Selli, 2018). The session was
held over 5 weeks in the university. In Week 1, we studied in detail about the study skills. We
were taught how we can enhance our study skills so that we are able to learn better in the future.
In Week 2, we learnt about reflective writing and critical thinking skills. We learnt how we can
present our own experience through reflection and use our critical thinking skills in the future. In
Week 3, the focus was put on art of communication and reflection on communication. We learnt

how we can communicate and were told to provide out experience in learning about
communication. In Week 4, we learnt about barriers of communication and barriers to effective
communication. Thus we learnt how we can identify these barriers which can hinder
communication. In Week 5, negotiation skills and developing personal influence skills were
taught. Therefore, we learnt about how we can negotiate and develop the personal influence in
the right manner. Thus, overall in the session we learnt new things which will be quite helpful
for us in the future.
Feelings-During the session, I had different types of feelings. At the start of the session, I
felt very nervous about how it will go and whether I will be able to develop my skills effectively
in it or not (Hariprasad and Ramesh, 2018). All of the skills which I learnt in the 5 weeks helped
me in developing positive feelings that I can achieve my goals and objectives in the future.
However with the progression of the session, I started feeling very confident and thus I was able
to develop my different types of skills which will surely help me in the future.
Evaluation- In the session, I met different types of people and had different experiences
with them (Schaltegger, 2018). In it, there were certain things which went well. However, there
were also certain things which did not go well. Thus, overall I learnt a lot from this session
which will be quite helpful for me in the future. The skills which were taught in the 5 weeks will
be helpful for me in ensuring that I develop my personality. Also by making the use of this
session I will be able to ensure that I achieve the desired success in the future.
Analysis- In the session, there were multiple situations which were created. I faced all of
these situations (Sheikholeslami and Jafari Navimipour, 2018). Sometimes, I performed well
during the session and sometimes my performance was not according to the standard. Therefore,
from this session I analysed that I have a lot of scope for improving my various types of skills.
The skills taught in the 5 weeks can be acquired after working towards their development.
Conclusions- After the session concluded, I made a conclusion. It was that I had to work
hard so that I am able to develop the various types of skills which were taught in it (Wahaia and
et.al., 2016). By working hard, I am sure that I will develop these skills in the future. While
attending these types of sessions in the future, I have to make sure that I am able to handle the
situations in a much better manner effectively and efficiently. Also I need to communicate in a
better manner with the other people so that I am able to learn something new from them which

can be quite helpful for me in the future. Thus for learning the skills which were taught in the
session in the 5 weeks I will need to certain steps so that I can ensure their development.
Action plan- After the conclusion of the session, I have decided that I will frame an
action plan and will improve myself so that I am able to ensure that I enhance the skills which
were taught to me in the 5 weeks (Yang and et.al., 2016). For each skill which was taught during
the session, I will frame a separate action plan. This is required so that I am able to enhance my
knowledge and learning ability and thus achieve my various types of goals and objectives in the
future. The action plan is required so that I am able to enhance my skills and abilities and
develop them so that I am able to achieve the desired level of success in the future as a student.
As a student, I need to ensure that I use the knowledge which I learnt from the session and thus
make sure that through the implementation of Action plan I can facilitate the desired
improvements.
Thus with my reflection, I can state that from the following skills I have learnt that
understanding of communication skills can affect workplace behaviour-
Study skills- Through study skills, a person is able to concentrate on his/her studies in a
much better manner and thus in this way can ensure that development of communication skills is
done in a highly effective manner.
Reflective writing and Critical thinking skills- Through the development of reflective
writing and critical thinking skills I can ensure that development of communication skills can be
done because presentation of own experience can be done and through the use of reflective
writing and with the use of critical thinking skills the right way of thinking can be used.
Art of communication and reflection on communication- Through the art of
communication and reflection on communication I learnt that development of communication
skills can be done because one can get to learn so much about it.
Barriers of communication and barriers of effective communication- Through the
analysis of barriers of communication and barriers of effective communication I learnt that in the
development of communication skills certain problems are faced which are required to be
removed.
Negotiation skills and developing personal influence skills- Through the negotiation
skills and developing personal influence skills I learnt that for the development of

communication skills they are highly important so that the personal goals and objectives can be
effectively achieved.
Application of negotiation skills and personal influence skills
Negotiation skills and Personal influence skills are quite helpful so that the set goals and
objectives can be attained (Ye and et.al., 2018). With their use, a person can ensure that the
desired level of success can be obtained in the future. As I have learnt these skills as a part of my
course in the university they have been quite helpful for me in becoming successful.
Objective- As a student I had set an objective that I have to enhance my ability to
communicate in a better manner with my classmates and friends so that I am able to achieve
more excellence in academics by taking certain tips from them. I will apply the negotiation skills
and personal influence skills which I had learnt so that I am able to achieve this particular
objective.
The application of these skills was done as follows to achieve the objective-
Approaching the person- For the development of communication skills it is essential
that the person with whom communication has to be done is approached. For this purpose,
negotiation skills and personal influence skills were used by me because by making their use I
was able to make sure that I approach the person with whom I want to communicate in the right
manner.
Creating an image- Development of communication skills also require a person to be
able to create an image so that the people have a desire for communicating with you. Therefore,
negotiation skills and personal influence skills were put in use by me here so that I was able to
create a charismatic image for myself which facilitated a lot of ease for me in the
communication.
More awareness- For developing communication skills it is crucial that a person is more
aware about his/her surroundings. Thus, negotiation skills and personal influence skills were
used here so that the awareness can be enhanced quite effectively.
Building of confidence- Development of communication skills requires a person to build
the necessary confidence in a highly effective manner. Therefore, the use of negotiation skills
and personal influence skills was made here so that the necessary confidence for approaching
people for communicating them was made.

Teamwork- For developing good communication skills, it is crucial that a person knows
how to work in a team and display the essential cooperation and coordination with the different
team members. Thus, negotiation skills and personal influence skills were used here by me
which helped me in cooperating and coordinating in a better manner with the team members
effectively and efficiently.
Conveying of the message- For developing communication skills, it is quite crucial that
the message is conveyed in the right manner (Young and et.al., 2017). The use of negotiation and
influence skills helped me in conveying the message which I wanted to give to the various team
members which therefore helped me a lot in the development of communication skills.
Problem-solving- For developing communication skills, it is crucial that the problems of
others can be identified quickly and the right approach can be adopted for solving them. By
making the use of negotiation and influence skills the problems and issues of the team members
can be identified and rectification methods can be used so as to solve them. Thus I used these
skills to develop this ability for the purpose of developing communication skills.
Proper engagement- For the purpose of development of communication skills it is quite
essential that a person is able to engage others. Thus by making the use of negotiation and
influence skills I ensured that I was able to properly engage others during the conversations
which led towards the improvement in my communication skills in a highly effective manner.
Thus these skills were quite helpful for me.
CONCLUSION
From the above report, it can be concluded that reflection is quite helpful for providing
own viewpoints about a particular experience in the past. It can be very useful for students for
the presentation of their views in a highly effective manner. Thus, in this way conclusions on the
area of improvement can be effectively identified which can help a lot in making these
improvements for the purpose of obtaining the desired level of success in the future.
