Executive Summary
In the present report an analysis of the skills has been done with the help of a reflective
report. This report assesses and analyses various personal skills which is needed in order to
become a successful person or a succesful manger in the future. In the underlying report I
outlined four different types of skills which according to it needs to be developed and needs to be
worked up on. First, it identified and analysed the need of developing the skill. It further
discusses the importance of improving those skills which have been identified and selected for
improvement. Next, it outlined the current competencies possessed by me and highlighted the
other competencies which I need to develop for better working and performance. Further it
applies toolkit examined with peers and feedback from the tutors’ to evaluate these
competencies. After analysing these skills, an outlined of its strengths and weaknesses will be
presented. Finally, a personality development plan will be prepared to develop the weaknesses
and convert these weaknesses into strengths.

What is the core skill to develop?
The major skill which I need to develop is teamwork where I need to focus on working
in team and communicating with others. According to Ellis and Sevdalis (2019), teamwork can
be defined as working in a group for accomplishing a single task or objective which needs to
attain. The major benefit of improving this skill is that with teamwork the efforts of a single
person minimizes as the whole work is divided among different group members.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevant

Improving the skill of team working is very necessary because every organisation
requires a team to achieve its goals and as an individual, I have to work in a team. So, if I will
have team working skills then it will be able to build trust of employees and have respect for
me within them. Also, working in a team will help me to improve my communication and
decision-making skills. Tuckman team development theory (Natvig and Stark, 2016) propose
that all the stages of team building can be achieved by being much efficiently and this is the
reason why I chose team working skill for developing.

There are many competencies required to improve my team working skills. According
to Belbin team role test carried out in class (see appendix B), the result showed that I can
perform the role of executive more better as compared to other eight roles as specified in
Belbin team role model.

match between how you see yourself and how others see you, or not?
In my views I have competencies like good communication skills, leading others and
many other related competencies. But according to my team members I have a unique ability

of influencing and persuading others within a team. They have assessed this using the Belbin
test, and they realized how efficiently I was able to convenience other team member in
accordance with my working criteria. In agreement, (Randolph and Brigham, 2016) supportds
this idea, by suggesting that having good communication skills facilitates team influence and
paesuation among peers.
How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument).
Team working will help me in clearly defining and outlining the roles and
responsibilities of each and every team member clearly and carefully. Also, it will help me in
developing problem solving skill. In accordance with Doulougeri and Montgomery, (2019),
many people of diverse background work together so there will be many conflicting situations
with which the person had to deal and solve the problem.

What is the core skill to develop?
Another skill which I need to develop is time management. It refers to the ability of
person in managing the whole work within the time frame given in an effective and efficient
way. According to Collier and Lambert, (2018), time management helps in completing the
work by doing proper planning in advance and trying to complete the work before time.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevant

This skill is very essential to be developed because in this competitive world if a person
cannot do its work on time then it can do nothing and is not efficient. According to Won, and
Shirley, (2018), to stand and face the competition it is very necessary for a person to be
efficient in time management. Therefore, I feel if person can properly manage its time then it
will have a competitive advantage over other persons at its workplace. I chose time
management to reflect because it is very essential skill which needs to be possessed by me.
Therefore, by reflecting it I can get a thorough insight and knowledge of being efficient in
terms of time management. With the help of Stephen Covey's time management theory, I came
to know the importance of time management and I selected time management to develop.
Further, with help of Johari window test (appendix A) I learnt that in managing time I
am very confident and responsive. Also, I am very good at organizing the work in such a
planned way that all the task are accomplished before time.

In my opinion, in being capable of properly managing time I am good at setting the
goals and prioritize work which are necessary to fulfil and accomplish a task before time. I
self-evaluated and analysed the fact that if a task is assigned to me than I can easily set a goal
and related objective in short span of time. Also, another competency relating to time

management is that I am good at delegating the work that is I have the capability of analysing
that which person can do which type of work in less time. So, this delegation helps in
accomplishing work before time (Xiong, Cao and Yu, 2018).

Although I feel that delegation and setting goals are my competencies. But my peers
think that communicating with the employees and subordinates is my competency. They feel
this because they have seen me communicating with my subordinates that how well and
clearly, I make them understand about the given task to be performed by them (Vondracek,
Lerner and Schulenberg, 2019).
On the other hand, my supervisor think that I am bad at prioritizing the work. They
think this because they have worked me and knows that I can set goals effectively, but I cannot
prioritize my work according to the importance of accomplishing the work on time. This they
assessed while I was working under the guidance of supervisor.
How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument)
Improving time management will help me in near future because by working before
time I will reduce the cost for the company, and this will in turn increase the profits for the
company.
In accordance with Gregg, (2018), if work is done before time then it will increase the
skill of multitasking. It is so because of the reason that if a person work before time then it will
be helpful in managing more work at a same time. Therefore, it will increase the efficiency of
employees.

What is the core skill to develop?
Another skill which I need to develop is written communication. This is a core skill to
be developed by me because it is required at every part of business and living (Lindlof and
Taylor, 2017). Without communication no work can be done so it is very necessary to develop
this skill to improve communication with others. It refers to as sharing of message and
information and messages in the written form of reports, bulletins, memos, circulars, letters,
electronic mails or E- mails, faxes and many other related sources. It is necessary for me to
develop because I am not good at writing messages and poor in writing skills.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevant

The skill of written communication is very important to develop because there is a
great advancement in the technology and also there is increase in globalization with which
many businesses communicate with one another on global level. Therefore, for this there is a
need of written communication so that I can communicate with others properly. In accordance
to Mehrabian, (2017), good written communication skills are important because it is suitable in
long distance communication as in oral communication it is not possible that all the
information is passed on clearly. So here written communication is more important. Also, this
communication can be kept as a written proof which can be used as a reference in future if
required. This importance was outlined when I focused on theories of written communication
that is AIDA model and cybernetic theory.
With the help of an online test given to know my written communication skill I came to
know that I am average in my written communication skills and nedd to improve it. I scored 50
% in the test which outlines the fact that I need to improve my written communication skills
(result in appendix C)

From self-evaluation I came to know that I have good communication skills as my
competencies. The major competency which I have is analytical thinking which is essential for
written communication. It is not only enough to communicate rather it is essential that first it is
thought that what needs to be communicated to other. Therefore, I have good analytical and
critical thinking, but I lack writing skills. It means that I can assess what needs to be
communicated to others with help of analytical thinking, but I am confused that how to write
the message so that it can cover whole message in short and specific way.
In the views of Hovland and Lumsdaine, (2017), the decision-making is another
competency which needs to be possessed by the person because the person has to decide in
between what is relevant and useful information and which is not a relevant information.

Yes, there is a contradiction between what I think is my competency and what my
colleagues think. In my opinion the competency which I possess is analytical thinking. In
contrast, my peer thinks that I am good at resolving conflicts which occurs at the workplace.
This they evaluated when I was solving a problem of two people coming from different
cultural background. It is because of the reason that there are many people of different
thoughts and views so there are many conflicts in selecting the information which is to be
communicated with others. So, I am good at solving these conflicts (Champion, 2019).

This skill will help me future in effectively and efficiently sharing my thoughts and
feelings with others in a clear and understandable manner. Also, in views of Giles, (2016), it
helps people in drafting and writing messages and information very clearly and in proper
language.

What is the core skill to develop?
The last skill which I need to develop is researching and finding information within the
business environment (Sekaran and Bougie, 2016). This is the most essential skill which is to
be developed because the working culture and requirement of working keeps on changing
continuously. So, I need to keep a track of these changes and accordingly research relating to
the changes taking place within the environment and implement those changes within the
business. It is necessary to be developed because if research will be good then I will be able to
find and collect information and will be able to assess that which information is necessary for
me and which is not.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on? (use relevant
theories and concepts to support your answer).
This skill is necessary because of the reason that the business exist in dynamic and
ever- changing environment where in every second there are changes. So, to use these changes
in a positive and beneficial way it is very necessary to research thoroughly and in depth. It is
also necessary for me to enhance my researching skills because with help of research I will
come to know many other facts and figures relating to a particular topic which earlier I didn't
know including the viewpoints of other experts on that topic. With the help of constructive
theory, I came to know that enhancing researching skills are very necessary.
As per the thoughts of Able, Doerflinger and Loveys, (2017), developing researching
and information searching skill is necessary because it enhances the knowledge of the person
as it will conduct a detailed study of the topic. Therefore, all the thoughts and concept of
person relating to the topic will be cleared and its knowledge will be improvised.
For analysing this skill I took help of a personality test which suggested that I am very
assertive in nature and needs to work on my researching skills (appendix A).

According to my senior the major competency which I possess is proper planning and
scheduling. It is necessary because of the reason that if I do not plan from which sources I need
to initiate the research that is from which sources the information needs to be collected and
how they relate to the business. Another competence possessed by me is being attentive. It is
so because if I will not be attentive then how will I analyse the changes taking place in the
market and environment.
In the viewpoint of Champion, (2019), communication is also a competency required
which I do not have. Communication is an important competency because without
communicating a person cannot perform any research or analysis of the information.

There is a contradiction in what I think is a good competency in me and what others see
in me. In my view I am good at communicating with other for collecting information from
them. But my co- workers and colleagues thinks that I am good at analysing the data and
drawing some conclusions from those data which is the main work of research (Lindlof and
Taylor, 2017). They think this so because of the reason that they have observed that how fast I
am in critically analysing the data and drawing inferences from it. Therefore, they contradict
with my thoughts.
Also, some peers feel that I am also good at using some techniques and tools which are
used analysing the data in researching. According to them I am very good at data mining, data
classifying and using database management.
How might this skill help me in the future? (use references to support your argument).
If I develop these skills up to the required extent, then it will help me because in this
modernized and competitive era it is very important for me to be updated with all the latest
changes as it will increase my competitiveness and my position and goodwill in business
world. According to Willison, (2018), another reason for improving research as a skill is that
the person can have better growth opportunities for my personal growth and development of

my knowledge.
Summary and Action Plan:
The strengths and weaknesses of a person are the positive and negative things which
either helps the person in its growth or hampers the process of growth. It is very necessary for a
person to analyse its strengths and weakness because it will help it in knowing its capabilities
and areas where it is not good. Therefore, it is important in analysing strengths and weakness and
will help person in maintaining its strengths and converting its weakness into strengths
(Vondracek, Lerner and Schulenberg, 2019).
Strengths
The major strengths of me are as follows-
 I am very good at analytical and logical reasoning and thinking.
 I am also good at decision- making.
 Another strength of me is that I can easily communicate with others in a clear and
understandable manner.
 Another major strength is that as I am good at communicating with others within the
business. Therefore, I am very good at working in team and managing the work of team
members.
Weaknesses:
The major weakness which I identified through analysing my personality are as follows-
 I am not very good in time management and mainly in prioritizing the work.
 Another weakness is that I cannot communicate properly outside the organization with
external parties.
 I lack having good writing skills and have language problem while drafting messages for
communication.
 Another weakness is that I have low influencing and persuasion skills while I work in a
team.
