1REFLECTIVE POST
Topic: Role of social policy in educational change
Introduction
The change in the educational systems and institutional processes are specifically based
on the social policy. The lecture that I attended on the role of social policy in empowering
changes in the educational aspects astonished me. I was flabbergasted by the convergence and
divergence of the reforms in the social policies and the manner in which the same brought about
significant alterations in the educational institutions and the services that are offered by the same.
Discussion
During the lecture I came across different concepts of national culture, social structure
and different other metrics that specifically outlined the aspects of the social policies. Moreover,
from the lecture I also recollected the manner in which the different elements of societal
structure and cultural statute of a region empowers the changes in the educational service
offerings. The transmission of social norms and values have paved different reforms in the
educational service delivery methods and contents (Elliott, Fourali & Issler, 2010). From the
lecture, I identified the different modifications in the existing educational systems through the
influence of the societal changes.
The policies, norms, ethics and beliefs of the society poses a huge impact on the
institutional criteria of the delivering the different educational service offerings. The lecturer
took the initiative of discussing different case examples of economies where the social structure
greatly influenced the changes in the educational services. We were provided with the
opportunity of sharing our views on the topic area for an allocated time period. The session was
tough for me and I was tensed as to what I should present before my peers as I had little

knowledge on the subject area. However, I reasoned out a best practice through reflecting on the
current societal norms and ethical beliefs that are followed in our society and the manner in
which the same it brought about significant modifications in the educational systems.
After the discussion on the subject area we were asked to define our own
recommendations for our social policies with the purpose of improving the concurrent system of
educational service deliveries. In this relation, it might be noted that the class was diverse with
people coming from different societal backgrounds. Therefore, we had unique point of views
while reflecting on the change that the social policies might induce for improving the rate of
educational reforms. The overall lecture and the interactive session with the lecturer enabled me
in identifying the different elements and factors that directly affect the changes in the educational
aspects.
Conclusion
Therefore, I might proclaim that the overall lecture helped me in identifying the major
influence that the societal policy, norms, cultural background and the perception of the people in
the particular social system results to changes in the educational quality and delivery process.
Moreover, the interactive session assisted me in identifying the variations in the social policies of
my peers from the diverse backgrounds. Assimilation of the concepts and ideas while linking the
same on the aspects of change in the educational setting helped me in developing a clear view on
the topic area.
