AI Summary
This assignment delves into the realm of project learning and the role of a reflective practitioner within the context of a project management integrated project (PMIP) unit. The core objective is to analyze the application of project management principles and the development of skills necessary for learning from project experiences. The assignment uses the construction of the Fiona Stanley Hospital in Australia as a case study. The project learning process is structured to reflect on various aspects of the project, including the project's background, key performance indicators (KPIs), strategic alignment, and the scope of work. The analysis further extends to time and cost management, human resource management, communication strategies, quality control, and procurement processes. A key component of this reflection involves comparing experiential learning points with findings from a literature review, identifying similarities, dissimilarities, and insights for improving future project management practices. The project also explores the project benefits assumption, the challenges encountered, significant events, and aspects of practice that worked well or failed. The assignment includes the analysis of the project's schedule, budget, responsibility assignment matrix, communication plan, stakeholder management plan, risk register, and quality register. The assignment aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of project learning and reflective practice, which can then be applied to improve project performance and decision-making.

1. INTRODUCTION
Development of any system conducted through the project management methodologies needs
to be conducted at such a level that it should justify all the aspects of a project. A project is not just
conducted through carrying out a set of work, but it also works as per the acquiring of knowledge and
transferring of the same from one project phase to the next. This also means that one project phase
needs to make out all the inside that is gathered from the occurrence of the events that has been
encountered in one project including all the challenges faced and all the reasons that the phase can be
declared as a success or failure. This should be gathered and produced in the next phase of the project
with the acquired knowledge so that the later projects can be provided with more insights from the
knowledge gathered from the previous one.
Reflective practitioner in this case is the one that has a goal of learning from the performance
of a project with an objective of learning from the project performances and recognising all the past
experience of the project making at the Central importance in organisations that are based on projects.
The purpose of this assignment would be to implement the project management practices and enable
the skills required for learning from the knowledge gathered from a project. This would focus on all
the aspect learn from the project regarding the construction of the Fiona Stanley Hospital in Australia.
The project learning would be a reflection based on the background for the problem acquired through
the project progression. this would be justified in various stages gathering information about the
nationality of the project and the key performance indicators along with the strategic alignment of the
project. It would further be justified into several stages regarding the scope of the project. the scope of
the project would include the project deliverables, the reflection and the knowledge gathered from the
work breakdown structure, the out of scope of the project, the constraints and assumptions made of the
project. next it would move on to the time management that has been developed throughout the project
and the approach that had been followed all throughout the project progression.
It would then find out the project cost management, applied by the approach taken for the
project cost management and the budget allocated. It would then look about the project and collect
information about the human resource manager the approach behind the human resource management,
the project team members and the responsibility assignment matrix developed so far for the project.
next, the project communications management would be reflected upon developed by the approach
and the communication plan devised. The project learning would then move to the project quality
management to analyse or gather information about the approach taken for the project quality
management and the quality plan devised. The learning would then move on to the procurement
management that has been adopted for the project and the project control. in the end it would focus
upon how the progress reporting of the project has been done, and elaborate reflection on the change
management and the project completion review. the learning of the project would also include the
information gathered from the schedule, project budget, responsibility assignment matrix,
communication plan, stakeholder management plan, risk register and quality register.

2. DISCUSSION
2.1 THE EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING POINTS GAINED FROM EXPERIENCE DURING
THE PMIP UNIT
This project was built over several learning points that has been gathered from the industry
project. The project is about the healthcare industry in Fiona Stanley hospital sponsored by Ian Smith.
The construction project contains several information about description on how project management
approaches applied to the project and how based on the theoretical Project Management process, the
project management plans were devised for the operational processes in the project. The
documentation of the project covered all the utilised owned and maintained information about how the
project manager and the project team has supported the entire project to make sure that the delivery of
the project deliverables handmade at the estimated time and within the estimated budget. There were
several aspects of the project that were focused on for expanding the project charter and explaining
how the team appointed for the project would be carrying out their responsibilities for making
meaning of appeared that the objectives that the project charter has made would be occurring. There
are several other backgrounds related to this project that has been learnt as well. The project also
considers the challenges that could be faced due to the industry that the organisation is based on. The
documentation process also develops several rationales that helps a person in understanding why the
project is being proceeded with.
2.1.1 PROJECT BENEFITS ASSUMPTION
2.1.1.1 A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIFIC CONTEXT FROM WHICH THE
LEARNING EMERGED
One of the most essential learning aspects of this project was the finding of the benefits of the
project and the key performance indicators. The key performance indicators or KPIs are the
indications on how the project for the healthcare processes would make sure that the optimisation of
this project would increase the satisfaction of the patience and these would be regarded as the key
performance indicator to analyse how these benefits have been adding to the satisfaction of the
patients.
In addition to that the alignment of the project plan is focused on delivering the information
system that the healthcare organisation is currently requiring. The strategic plan tendered to the
implementation of healthcare information system for this particular project is looked out at since this
would help in analysing what constraints the project contains and would help in eradicating all the
challenges that the project progression will face. All the important necessities that the project would
contain have been explained in details and this is why I have learnt how a project planning is followed
through a realistic plan. I also learnt how it helps in in preparing a project schedule so that the entire

plan can avoid any kind of delays during the activities of a project having a buffer time of about 16
weeks.
The learning that I have gone through has totally been based upon the description of the
project as per the description of the implementation of the information system in the organization of
Fiona Stanley Hospitals. I have gone through several literatures for the understanding of this section to
have a better view at the information system and the benefits that the business has gained after the
implementation of the information system within the organization. The advantages that the
organization gains from the implementation of the information system for the feasible management of
the business information generated in the healthcare industry. During my study, I found that there have
been various previous cases of implementing information systems in the business organization and
mostly focusing on the previous cases where there have been examples of the healthcare industries as
well. These have been successful projects and this what ensued the Fiona Stanley Hospital to
employment of information system for this particular organization as well.
2.1.1.2 CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
During the project progression of the Fiona Stanley Hospital and its Information System
implementation project, it has been found that there are various aspects in which the project faced
difficulties because of the issues that aroused in the project. This is because the entire project has been
based upon the Human Resource Management of the project to understand the people involved within
the project for working as a single unit. I gathered the information that the project was also based upon
the basic idea of managing the Human Resource for the project to understand the plan of the team
members and making them realise the effect of the definition of the roles and responsibilities
according to the project.
2.1.1.3 SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
The lack of proper training of the project was initiated because the Fiona Stanley Hospital
never had an information system before and the initiation of the project to develop a proper
information system naturally required a proper training for the implementation of the system and this
is why it is important that a proper training and development procedure is set according to the
requirement of the project.
2.1.1.4 ASPECTS OF PRACTICE THAT WERE FOUND TO WORK WELL OR FAILED TO
DELIVER THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The planning of the project was done according to such precision that the aspects of the
project that were found to be successful according to the project as was estimated to be following all
plan can avoid any kind of delays during the activities of a project having a buffer time of about 16
weeks.

the aspects of the requirements that the organization needed to follow for the information system
implementation process. This was regarded as the success of the project and thus the timeline of the
project depended on the best way possible to implement the information system and the training of the
project team considering the requirements of the project.
2.1.1.5 LITERATURE REVIEW
According to Young (2016), it was found that the benefits assumptions of a project determines
the initial idea behind a project to find out what benefits does the project has to offer. Without the
project benefits assumptions, any sponsor who would be backing up the project would need to
understand the fact that the project would definitely make sure that it would be a beneficial
investment. This decides that the project is a feasible one to begin with. Thus, I can say that the
benefits assumptions that the project has made ensures the project sponsors and executives that it
would not be much of a loss to invest into the project.
2.1.2 KPIS
2.1.2.1 A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIFIC CONTEXT FROM WHICH THE
LEARNING EMERGED
The project also describes the scope of the project that helps in understanding what the
deliverables of the project might be according to the requirements of the customers so that they can
identify what has been implemented properly in the project outcomes related to the healthcare
information system and what would ensure that the planning has been successful to deliver all the
services to the patients. This also emergency idea about the implemented deliveries of the project
which can be completed over the buffer time of 16 weeks. It is a use constraint to measure all the
deliveries of a project to understand what should be planned according to the requirements of the
project to make sure that the completion is a successful one. It also helps in understanding the
deliverables of a project with the description in requirements of white might be needed during the
entire project. Analysis of the work breakdown structure helps in understanding what the deliverables
of a project are and to how many phases this can be conducted to understand the project phases and
the works needed to be done for or requiring the deliverables based on the work breakdown structure.
The project also considered the out of scope options for the construction project which is based upon
the development of the information system in the Fiona Stanley hospital.
2.1.2.2 CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
The project was based on the development of a Human Resource plan for identifying the
skillset and the knowledgeability of the employees in the organization and then it would accordingly
plan the roles and responsibilities along with the scheduling of the project. This helped the project
the aspects of the requirements that the organization needed to follow for the information system
implementation process. This was regarded as the success of the project and thus the timeline of the

team to develop the entire plan, budget and scheduling of the project. The issues were mostly found
due to the training and support of the staff. I realised that this process was necessary as Fiona Stanley
Hospitals never had a developed information system. This is why the project team was developed to
train the project team so that they can help in solving the issues that the employees were facing in
understanding the importance of the information system and what the business would gain from it. The
technical work for required for the project was not understood by the project team. This created an
issue and this was also taken care of before the project was initiated at the first place.
2.1.2.3 SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
For avoiding the event of having a budget run down, the project understood the importance of
having a project schedule developed to estimate the cost based on the developed plan for the project as
well. In addition, the event of technical risk was also avoided with the implementation of the proper
coding of the software according to the requirements of the organization to develop the information
system for the healthcare institution.
2.1.2.4 ASPECTS OF PRACTICE THAT WERE FOUND TO WORK WELL OR FAILED TO
DELIVER THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The failure of the project practise was estimated to be the failure of the system that could not
be attained due to the constricted time of the project prospects since it has been estimated that the
delivery of the project is to be kept at the minimum amount of specifically reduced time. This is
because the achievement of a project to deliver a newly developed system requires the involvement of
the certain amount of time and along with it, specific expertise. I have found that the project failed to
deliver the project at such a constricted time and this is why the project development was considered
at somewhat to be a problematic constricted time.
2.1.2.5 LITERATURE REVIEW
According to Badewi (2016), KPIs or the Key Performance Indicators are dependent on the
benefits identification of a project and the ways by which the performance can depend upon to
calculate the advantages or disadvantages of the project. This is why along with the project benefit

2.1.3 THE STRATEGIC ALIGNMENT OF THE PROJECT
2.1.3.1 A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIFIC CONTEXT FROM WHICH THE

The gathering of the information according to the entire project progression case from the
Fiona Stanley Hospital, I had also found that the project was based upon numerous project practices
that are actually theoretically described in the Project Management Body of Knowledge and have been
standardized by the Project Management Institute. I found that the project also included the rationale
behind the business to find out what are the actual reasons by which the project was initiated in the
first place. The considerations by which the background was set out had been discovered due to the
incur of the problems discovered in the project. I gathered the idea that the reason that this project is
being contemplated with is due to the enhancement of the healthcare industry with the project devised
for Fiona Stanley Hospital. I believe that the people within the organization understood what are the
primary constraints that people generally faced when an Hospital system did not have any generation
of information system. It is a known fact that the hospitals are bound to gain competitive advantages
with respect to the other competitors in the same industry. The ways by which the information system
helps in the utilization of the information system implementation would make the hospital gain
competitive advantages as well. I have learned that this would be effective if the information system
implementation would add to the benefit of the Fiona Stanley Hospital as well. I have also learnt that
there have been prior situations where the organization has faced problems because of the
mismanagement of the data which the organization is trying to clear out with this project.
I also gathered the idea that the project has taken into consideration about various projects
previously done before and based on that they have represented the evaluation of the success and
failure factors for each project. I have also learnt during my personally conducted study that there are a
number of myths that are associated with these kinds of projects as well. These often are found to be
hampering the implementation processes. The Fiona Stanley Hospital understood that this project is
going to mutually transform the business and the services as well. They understood that this project is
not only looking at the implementation procedure for the betterment of the management of
information, but is also looking forward to the better service to the patients and their families. They
understood that this procedure would bring about the best of the steering force to turn the business
management of the organization over and would also help in the transformation of the business and
also help in managing the business change with ease. I have also gathered the knowledge that the
attempt to transform the business in this regard is mostly looking forward to the control of the
information management and this is not looking forward to control the entire process in this regard.

project progression. This is why, the next set of the project implementation has been entirely based
upon the challenges that the project faced at every aspect of the project progression during the
implementation phases.
2.1.3.2 CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
Before the project was commenced it was also considered that the project could also face
issues or challenges while the software implemented as the outcome of the project may be not be
compatible with the system and these challenges were also considered to be eliminated from the
system. The identification of the issues and eradication of this took time and had the potential of
delaying the project more that the estimated budget. The project also knew what could be challenges
that the project can face if the team selected for the project went through initial setbacks like conflicts
between the project team members. This problem was actually faced during the project. I gathered the
information that this conflict was mitigated with the help of the successful meetings held over face to
face basis.
2.1.3.3 SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
During the schedule risk, the project team understood that there would be problems in the
project in the initial level right at the points of inception because the project progression was affected
due to the constricted timeframe. The project team utilized the learning and knowledge that they have
gathered and at the same time they have initiated with the project planning to make sure that each of
the project tasks allocated or thought about for the project is completed feasibly at the required and
estimated time.
The unavailability of the project resources was not thought about to be implemented in the
project tasks as it was unable to be conducted given the least amount of available resources. This is
why the project had to go through the process of hiring the resources outsourced. The event was
treated with the help of the utilization of the hiring of the resources according to the requirements of
the project.
2.1.3.4 ASPECTS OF PRACTICE THAT WERE FOUND TO WORK WELL OR FAILED TO
DELIVER THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The experiential learning points that are to be developed in due course of the entire project is
dependent on all of the project phases that I have gone through. I have reviewed the literatures based
on these project phases and the ways by which the project has been progressed. This is dependent on
the theories that I have mostly gone through specifying the entire project plan and considering the fact
on what the project has delivered. I have successfully gone through the project and delivered my
project progression. This is why, the next set of the project implementation has been entirely based
upon the challenges that the project faced at every aspect of the project progression during the
implementation phases.

finding on the project benefits and the KPIs, the strategic alignment of the project, the scope of the
project, the deliverables, work breakdown structure, project constraints, and assumptions. The next
phase of the project ensures the different stages of the project time management that included the
approach of the time management and the development of the project schedule. Then I have reviewed
the literature for the project according to the human resource management of the project, the
communications management developed for the project, the stakeholder management for the project,
the quality management developed for the project and the project procurement management
concluding with the project completion and its review.
2.1.3.5 LITERATURE REVIEW
According to the author Heagney (2016), the information gathered to make sure what needs to
be done in a project is what makes the strategic alignment of the project. This ensures control over the
generated information about the project. The implementation of healthcare information system is
feasible as it enforces control over the generated information in the healthcare industry. Due to
implementation of healthcare information system, it excels in provision of safety of patients, quality,
timely care of patients and quality of stored data. The healthcare industry strives to provide such a
workplace where both staffs as well as physicians are envy of the healthcare groups.
2.1.4 THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT AND DELIVERABLES
2.1.4.1 A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SPECIFIC CONTEXT FROM WHICH THE
LEARNING EMERGED
There are various business prospects aligned to this project as well. I have learned with the
analysis of this project that the Fiona Stanley Hospital is also looking for the project prospect where,
the outcome of the project is not only trying to solve the problem of information management but is
also looking forward to the implementation of the project to improve the business system of the
hospital as well as for becoming more eligible in serving the people in an improved way. I have
analysed the rationale behind the entire project to find out that the people have been more focused on
making the services to the customers more value for money and improve the management of the
information generated within the organization. I realized that there are more than one business
objectives that the organization wants to achieve through the implementation of this project. The
organization wants to improve all the clinical decision that the organization would be making
following the existing information system, reduce all the medical errors and all the costs incurred
associated to it. The organization is also looking forward to improve the safety system of the business
organization by making the information system reduce all the additional costs for providing safety to
the information of the patients and decrease the lengths of stay for the patients in the hospitals. The
organization is also looking forward to the improvement of the work process and work flow for

making it easier for the organization to look into other factors of the improvement of the staff and their
fulfilment over time along with the focus on the improvement of the safety of the patients.
2.1.4.2 CHALLENGES ENCOUNTERED
The risk events are the only significant event found during the implementation of the initial
project. I understood that these could most probably be differentiated into the Schedule Risk that the
project planning team initially already thought about. Then came the risk events that occurred due to
the implementation of the project in the most limited resources possible and the last event of the risk
was in initiated due to the failure of the system. There was also the occurrences of the events like
system failure, problems faced during the lack of proper training of the staff and the operational
problems that might occur due to the improper testing of the information system, the budget risk due
to the improper addition of the extra resources that was not estimated before and the technical risk that
can occur due to the improper operation of the system due to wrong coding for the information system.
2.1.4.3 SIGNIFICANT EVENTS
The operational events can occur due to the improper testings and this is why it should also be
cleared out during the project progression and at every stages of the project, the project maintained
proper consistency in testing the healthcare information regularly.
2.1.4.4 ASPECTS OF PRACTICE THAT WERE FOUND TO WORK WELL OR FAILED TO
DELIVER THE EXPECTED OUTCOMES
The theories developed for this has been taken into consideration for the implementation of
the project of information system for Fiona Stanley Hospital to take a look at what the theories
suggested and why and how has these steps helped the completion of this particular project.
2.1.4.5 LITERATURE REVIEW
The scope of the project delivers the assurance that the project can be considered to be a
successful one. It ensures how the project can deliver the best number of possible outcomes and how
the project theoretical evidences can ensure the total delivery of the best system to the organization.
For the Fiona Stanley Hospital, as well, the deliverables are implemented such that the project can
complete in 16 weeks. As time is one of major constraints in project, therefore the project is required
to plan accordingly for successful completion.
The project deliverables according to Heldman (2015), has been identified as the possible
outcomes that the projects are trying to deliver to the customers one after another. The Fiona Stanley
Hospital has also listed the deliverables of the project which includes Approval of the project charter
making it easier for the organization to look into other factors of the improvement of the staff and their
fulfilment over time along with the focus on the improvement of the safety of the patients.

2.2 COMPARISON OF THE FINDINGS OF THE LITERATURE REVIEW WITH
EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING POINTS
The comparison of the findings that I have found according to the theory and the practical
approaches of the Fiona Stanley Hospital has been the project constraints. This is regarded as the It is
anticipated limitations focused on system upgrading and improvements because of coordination
required stopping the system that need continuity of healthcare operations. It was assumed that the
selected vendor will provide certified technology which should meet with healthcare industry
requirements in a feasible amount of time. However, it was not considered that the time of the project
progression was not at all feasible for the project for which it feared low quality of product as these
was limited time found for the product and software testing. It was also severe problems that the
people within the organization of Fiona Stanley Hospital had no prior training of handling their day to
day activities with the help of information systems.
2.2.1 REASONS OF THE SIMILARITIES OR DISSIMILARITIES ENCOUNTERED
The reasons that I believe that this project can be termed as dissimilar to the theory as there
was a failure in the testing of the software product which should have not occurred if the project was
to go through a proper phase of testing the software at every stages of its development and even at the
end product. Failure to achieve the project milestones can result to failure in the entire project and
delay in the project. This is why, there had been various problems regarding the understanding of the
requirements of the time of the project and the product testing.
2.3 HOW THE REFLECTIONS CAN BE USED IN THIS NEW KNOWLEDGE TO IMPROVE
THE FUTURE PRACTICE OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT
These reflections that I have gone through has been extremely essential in my respect and the
learnings that I have gathered according to the Fiona Stanley Hospital Project has developed my idea
of handling the testing and scheduling of the project. In order to complete the project work is
scheduled time, the project manager follows the project management approaches such that it will
complete within 16 weeks. The entire project plan on development of information system in healthcare
industry is scheduled to complete in 16 weeks. The requirement in future had to be at such a level the
project would be completed within the given budget and the presented schedule.
