Introduction
Business continuity Plan can be simply described as a holistic approach of having
business continuity aspect as an essential part of an organization whereby every essence in the
company from policy to committee roles, incident management , preventive actions are easily
governed. On the other hand, Disaster Recovery Planning is the step to recover from a big
incident once the incident has been clearly described as a disaster. It can be simply stated that
disaster recovery planning is a part of Business Continuity Planning. The primary aim of this
report is to throw light on the things which I have learnt in this course and my take from them. I
will also be discussing how I will be applying the earning of these in the business scenario. The
report will be written in first person.
Three things learnt and their reason
The things learnt in the coursework have been given as follows:
Business Continuity Plan is not a onetime aspect. It is a process which the company
needs to follow continuously in order to see to it to it that the organization is aware of the
changing needs of the work environment and that it is always prepared to take the
necessary changes in case of a disaster.
In a different way, the Disaster Recovery Planning is a simpler concept whereby the
organization needs to make plans to get back on track in case the organization is stuck by
a disaster. I learnt that it is not continuous system like Business continuity Planning.
However, it is equally important for a company

I also learnt what these two concepts actually comprised of. The Business Continuity
Planning as well as Disaster Recovery consist of procedures on how the work will
continue in case of a disaster, how the employees will work, how will they communicate
with each other and what will happen to the supply chain system of the company
According to me these things formed an important aspect of the course because the
scenario in business is quite uncertain and hence, any business can be exposed to a certain type
of risk that may hamper its operations. Hence, the continuation of the operations irrespective of
the disaster is extremely important.
Three things that will help in future and application
The things that will help me in my future career are:
The concept of adaptability- Business environment does not remain stagnant and there
exists various factors in the external environment that have the ability to impact the
business. This leads to various changes which the business needs to abide by.
Adaptability is the only key of survival.
The importance of planning- Planning is one of the primary functions of any
management function. Only a well planned organization is able to succeed well. I believe
that without adequate planning no organization can adapt to a change
How to manage disasters- Disasters are a common component if business. Through this
coursework, certain guides were provided as to how disasters can be managed and how
the organization can turn back to normal. According to me, this will help me greatly in
my professional career.

Learning of these three important aspects from my coursework will make me more
prepared to face the perils present in the business environment. I will be able to apply the skill of
planning and adaptability in any situation and overcome the difficulties. If I understand disaster
management well, I will be able to take up responsibilities in my future organization and that
will boost my career.
