Reflective Report: Gibbs Model & Research on Covid-19 Hospitality

INTRODUCTION
The research is conception of creating new knowledge and using of existing knowledge
in new & creative way that helps in generating the new concepts, methodologies and
understandings. The research is taken for acquiring something new and offers information &
knowledge for solving problem and making decisions (Bacholer, C., 2020). The reflection is
cyclical process which defines the ability of reflecting on one's actions. Through reflection
process skill of individual is developed by reviewing the experiences for having future success.
The reflective report is based on the Gibbs model that reflects the skills need to be developed and
should be improved while experiencing research.
MAIN BODY
Gibbs model of reflection cycle
The use of this model helps in determining strength and development areas by taking
actions for enhancing the professional skills. This model is based on several stages which
involves description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan (Stickley, and
et.al., 2018). The use of this model helps the person in understanding situation better so that they
can know what did worked well what can be done better in future. Graham Gibbs incorporated
this model in 1988 in which experience of person is examined and skills that used while working
on research. Following are the steps been explained below-
 Description- In this stage the experience of person is described while performing the
research on the topics. There was assignment which assigned to me by tutor to complete
that for having good grades by conducting research. The research was on topic “ how
Covid Pandemic issues affected UK hospitality”. While researching on this topic I
experienced pandemic has effected the several hotels in industry in which some of were
shut down, employment problem occurred, employees lose the job. To work on this I was
required to gather information from several sources (Garcia-De-Quiros, and et.al., 2020).
I also experienced several challenges such as writing this report, presenting the
information in understandable manner etc. To over come this I took help from teachers
that offered me guidance to complete this work.
 Feeling- When teacher assigned me this project I was so excited to work upon this as it
was helping me in enhancing my knowledge and skills by collecting several information

related to research work. But I also feel frustrated when researching as I was not so good
in research and how to present the information in effective way by using of corre4ct
grammar, language and I was feeling nervous. But with this I feel that I am good in some
of skills that can help in my research work such as communication skill, critical, thinking
and solving of problem.
 Evaluation- I conducted the evaluation on me as to know what areas are their that in I
am good and in which area I need to be more developed to enhance my skills and
knowledge. From topic I evaluated that pandemic affected in graet way where the hotel
productivity and profits were reduced, there was increase in prices, scarcity of raw
material and more problems industry were facing (Hsiao, I., 2020). The sales also
declined as people were not ready to come out from there home. While conducting
research I experienced the problem of data collection and writing style to make research
effective. I take help of several research methods such as survey, questionnaires.
 Analysis- From research I analysed that several skills are developing of mine which
make me confident to carry out any task effectively. I take the use of communication skill
for interacting with different people for having understanding of research in effective
way. With use of problem solving skill I was capable to solve several research issues
which help me out in writing research by conducting in great way. Along with this
teacher help me lot by giving guidance related to research topic. When I not having
knowledge of research the thing wont worked well and leads no experience which is
developed as issue for me at time of completing research.
 Conclusion- From above research conducted by me it is concluded that pandemic
affected the hospitality industry in great way which decrease the profits and sales. To
handle this situation several measures were followed by hotel industry such as social
distancing, use of sanitizer, wearing mask etc. The conducting of research also help me in
increasing skills. I also got to know which skills are needed to have improvement for
developing more effective (Scholkmann, A., 2021). I was required to work on the writing
style and presentation skill along with research skill so that in future I can use them
effectively in further assignments. It can be also said that teachers and family member
help me lot in providing guidance and direction so that research project can be completed
on time and effective way.

 Action plan- This is something about where I will take some measures to improve my
skills in which I am lacking. For improving research skill I will take daily research on
several topics from websites, studying books as this is required every where to complete
the work of any kind. I am weak in presentation skill, to improve this I will make
presentation in both word and PPT format by using correct grammar and language. I will
start taking classes and guidance from my teachers, leaders. I will improve my writing
style by taking classes of writing, guidance from teachers. Several other skills I will
improve by taking various action plan which is going to help me in conducting research
effectively.
CONCLUSION
From above it can be summarise that for an individual reflection and research both are
important. The reflection helps in individual to assess its skills and knowledge for sharing the
research and learning when research is conducted. Through research the individual has its own
development as several information is collected which helps in developing its thinking, busid
confidence and morale.
