understanding simpler things. My writing skills are very ineffective. I am unable to convey my
feelings effectively in English as it is not my first language.

2REFLECTIVE REPORT
Analysis of formulated goals
In consideration of my strengths and weaknesses it is very important to evaluate the
formulated goals. Before joining the course I wanted to know more about the hospitality
industry. The course helped me to understand more about the hospitality industry and profession.
The semester was more important as it helped to align my strengths with the learning process.
Moreover, I learnt to identify my weaknesses and take necessary steps to improve them. The
value of communication and interactions were much importantly learnt throughout this semester
(Roberts and Shea, 2005). Another important thing that I learnt this semester was the value of
time management and punctuality.
Some of the important steps that I took for improving my English writing skills are
enrolling in English writing courses and practicing English writing more. English speaking has
been a weakness only to a lesser extent. I have improved my English speaking ability with time.
The goals were much important to develop better learning about the subject.
Review of the progress and improvement achieved
The semester was very important in terms of my personal progress. Previously, I had very
limited knowledge of the hospitality industry. However, till now the course has helped me to
learn about the deeper concepts that are related to hospitality. I learnt more about team-work by
working side-by-side by teammates. Subsequently, I was able to develop good teamwork skills
(O'Connor 2005). I learnt more about the technical aspects that are related to the hospitality
industry like setting the tables and serving different kinds of dishes. Moreover, the course helped
me to gain more knowledge about the industry and its development (Simpson, 2016). All the
knowledge and skills that I gained were not limited to what I learnt from the textbooks and
classes alone (Beattie 1991). I learnt more through the interactions with different people,
including my fellow students and the teachers. I learnt more from the practical exercises that I
had to complete individually and as a member of a team. My language skills improve as a result
of the interactive classes and intermixing with my peers. Along with English I also got to learn
German. I understood the value of being able to speak in more than one languages in the
hospitality industry (Roberts and Shea 2005). The group assignments helped to improve my
communication levels. It made it interact more freely with my peers and the teachers. The
semester was complete with various learning events and seminars. These gave me the
opportunity of developing my personal learning techniques. According to McKercher, Law and
Lam (2006) hospitality industry is dependent on people who can learn more through experiences.
Hence, I believe that fair amount of service excellence need to be gathered through my academic
pursuits, in order for them to be utilized in my professional life. I was good in making notes
throughout the semester. This helped me to develop better ability in determining my academic
excellence.
Goal setting for the next semester
The next semester would be as important to me as this semester as more important course
concepts would be learnt. Moreover, I look forward to optimizing my strengths and improving
