INTRODUCTION
Understanding self and others is nothing but a process that is utilised for examining the
own as well as properties of another person (Schreiber, Paul and Shibley, 2012). This can be
used by various organisations in determining skills of their workers so that they can identify their
weaknesses and strengths too. At the same time, an individual could also recognise his core
competencies and weak sectors areas in order to improve the same. This will help them in
attaining bright carrier in the future. In this project, four key skills are going to be discussed so
that proper actions could be taken in order to do growth and development in personal as well as
professional life.
REFLECTIVE JOURNAL ENTRY PRO - FORMA
Reflective journal: Students can use this reflective journal in recording different kinds of
personal data like strengths, weaknesses, several types of attributes and so on. This can be
utilised by them in understanding about themselves. After that, they can take further actions as
per that for improving their current situations. Thus, it can be said that it would help an
individual in taking correct decisions in context of personalised improvement and in developing
its specific characteristics.
Pro-forma of public speaking skill
What is the core skill to develop?
The current skill is associated with ability to speak in front of numerous people in order to
deliver speech or thoughts on specific subject (Jaffe, 2012). This should be present in each and
every manager as well as employees performing in particular company as they need to
communicate relevant information and ideas among all members existing in the venture. It is to
be noted that this characteristic is mostly found in those people who are working in filed of
politics.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on?
This skill is very important for everyone since it aids in enhancing different qualities like
leadership and capability of representing own views among others. Through this, one can attract
their supervisors and clients as well. There are so many advantages of having such kinds of

skills. For example, it will assist in keeping the opinions amongst higher authorities of an
enterprise. In addition to this, special attention could also be attained from this. I selected this
skill for reflection because I want to be a good leader in my corporation.

competence?
In order become a good speaker, it is also eminent to listen things carefully. This quality is
present in me since I used to focus on other's viewpoints and give solution afterwards. Besides
this, I am confident in nature and used to tell anything to someone more confidentially. My
tutor and peers are also stating similar things for me.
Can you identify contradiction from your analysis above?
There are some barriers also which act as an obstructor for me that is my poor communication
skill. I am not good in representing things in English.
How this skill will help me in the future?
Characteristic of public speaking would prove to be highly beneficial for me in upcoming days
as my aim is to become one of the great leaders.

The another skill that I have to improve is working in team. This simply refers to the attribute of
performing within a group to achieve a common predetermined aims and objectives (West, and
Lyubovnikova, 2013).

Quality of team working is very crucial for each individual as without this no one can exist in
corporate world. In all offices, collaborative work is preferred since if more number of people
perform in identical direction for reaching any target then that task get completed instantly and
effectively too. I have chosen this to reflect as I want to trained myself in effectual manner
regrading the same.

In context to this referred attribute, I comprise of certain characteristics. For instance, I have
worked in some many projects and accomplished that by working under a team. In addition to
that, I am very loyal so my colleagues can trust me in every circumstances. Apart from this, I
can easily convince others by giving them specific or logical reasons. These all things helped
me at the time of working within a group.

There is a weak factor in me i.e. I easily trust on the words of other people . This behave as a
hindrance. For instance, if my team associates said me that he or she will complete particular
task, I depend them for the similar chore. But it is happened many times that they denied from
their words and at last I had finished the whole activities. My peers and tutors believe in my
capability and also promote me for carrying out different works by doing team up. This weak
section can be removed or minimised by not trusting on another's work but depending on own
skills for accomplishing any task.
How this skill will help me in the future?
Most of opportunities could be catch by me I will learn to work as best team member. Even my
dream of becoming a leader can also be attained from this. Apart from this, I would be work as
impressive supervisor in future only from achieving these types of qualities.

Management of time is the skill that needs to be developed in efficacious style (Nawrot and
Doucet, 2014). This is nothing but the art of finishing particular work before deadline.
Why is this core skill important? Why did I select this skill to reflect on?
Time managing quality is considered as one the eminent factor that should be present in each
and every person since this helps in completing any kind of works at appropriate time. If
someone is not good in managing time appropriately then he or she may face varieties of
conflicts or issues in current as well as future days. This is the key reason of selecting identical
skill. I need to focus on these aspects since without this, I can not acquire success in my

professional life.

competence?
There are different attributes which act as helper in this regard. For instance, I used to frame
proper schedule before starting any work. This provides me idea about how much time is
required by each section or activity. In addition to that, I usually pay attention on the working
my associates . This aids me in determining about their competences. Subsequently, I try to
improve that quality in myself. This brings positiveness in me and inspires me in attaining all
difficult jobs even those which I am not able to conduct. I come to know about these facts with
the assistance of faculties and friends since they commonly speaks about my strength and
encourage me to improve the same.

But I found some negative factors in me too. For example, when work load is excessive in
nature, then I feel irritated and more pressurised. Due to this, sometimes the quality regarding
my work get adversely impacted and in turn my performance level goes down. In order to deal
with these kinds of problems, I can take assistance of meditation classes, yoga, etc. so that I
could carry on work even at high workload without feeling so much pressure on my head.
Besides that, most of the health issues may also eliminated by joining these programmes.
How this skill will help me in the future?
Management of time is treated as a fundamental component that not only contribute in present
but also in future as well. If I get totally prepared in competing works on proper time or
managing actions as per the allocated time, then surely I will be succeeded in both my personal
life and professional career too.

The core attribute that I requires to grow or upgrade is giving and receiving feedbacks. Giving
feedbacks is nothing but the property of commenting on the work of others and providing them
idea that whether he / she is on right path or not (Anderson, 2012). On the other hand, there is
also requirement of considering response of others on particular subject so as to determine its

correctness (Gigante, Dell and Sharkey, 2011). At the same time, it also helps in identifying
about the level of errors existing in the similar chores.

This is very important to have such a nature of asking some one's views on specific task since
this aids in discovering about the thought of others on the identical thing. Via this, I may carry
on my work in accordance to my colleagues and employers as well. This as a fruitful result,
assist in gaining trusty of my associates and managers. On the other hand, I could also examine
work of my team members and presents my views on the same. Thus, it aids them in identifying
their weaknesses.

I trust on mutual profitability. This is one my objective to offer benefits or do welfare of all
other subordinates who are working in my organisation from my job. That is why I think about

nature which aids me in fetching persuasion of my association staffs and managers also.

Since this is the activity of taking or delivering feedbacks, I am unable to collect thought and
ideas of everyone because it is very time taking. In addition to that, there is absence of patience
in me so I could not wait for long interval of time for aggregating information from several
people. Hence, it is proved to be great contradiction in respect to above described skills. For
dealing with such contradictions, I have to join particular training class wherein I may learn
how to work by maintaining good patience level.
How this skill will help me in the future?
As I want to be a great leader in future, the characteristic of giving as well as acquiring views of
more and more people is very important for me. If I do not work according to public, then they
would not satisfy from my leadership and will not like me as their front runners. Therefore, it
can be said that I can attain my long term goal from learning this optimistic attitude.

After going through above based report, I come to know about some of my capabilities as
well as weak points which is presented below :
Strength : I found that I comprise of different strengths. For example, my confidence
level is very good. I can speak without hesitating in front of my seniors & juniors too. Through
this, I could easily keep my perspectives on specific topic and represents my ideas among large
number of persons. This shows that I am excellent in public speaking. On the other hand, I
believe in working under team and attaining mutual goals by sharing information amongst staff
members who are performing in my corporation. This represents that I am also better in working
in team. At the same time, I pay attention on my responsibilities and try my best to complete
that. In addition to this, it is very easy task for me to create friendly environment at work station
by making positive relationships with my colleagues as well as supervisors. This in turn aids me
in taking their feedbacks and carrying out that task in accordance to them. Apart from that, I also
give opinions on specific subject which is being conducted by my subordinates. Thus, I supports
my colleagues in carrying out their jobs by giving them suggestions for improving the similar.
Weaknesses : Some of the weak sector also observed by me in myself. Some of them are
lack of patience, poor communication skills, feeling stressed during presence of higher work load
and so on. In context to speaking, I am weak in English ; due to that I sometimes hesitate while
giving ideas in front of higher authorities of my enterprise. This barrier requires to be removed
and for this, I can attend conferences, workshops and many more sessions. On the other hand, I
easily believes on other people and depends on them for its completion. But most of the time, I
have received deceives from my associates. Hence, I should not trust on words of another
individual and If I am doing so then I must have to be ensure that they are speaking truth.
