Introduction
Creating a sustainable roadmap for self development along with having peer focus
on specific responsibilities within the scope of professional ground is a secure path
of getting closure to success in sustainable career planning. In this regard, following
reflective summary is going to illuminate the importance of reinventing professional
skills and competencies of an individual so that one can sustain respective
professional growth within this era of workplace globalization.
Developing personal employability skills
The employability skills of an individual are defined as the soft skills that are
specifically required for the purpose of a job role (Ahmad, 2016, p.479). As per my
previous professional experiences, I had a clear idea that the success of an
individual in the professional field is directly attributed to the level of communication
skill of that individual. The academic stage in the life of an individual is identified to
be the stage in which, the individual gets to derive the required employability skills
from the academic resources. As such, my current module ‘Preparing for Success
at University: Self Development and Responsibility’ is supposed to be strong
facilitator for my professional creativity. Some of these employability skills include
positive attitude, communication, teamwork and self-management (careers.govt.nz,
2019). These employment skills have been described below:
Positive attitude
An individual possessing a positive attitude skill is always given preference over an
individual who lacks this skill. I think this is because this positive skill is required for
the purpose of overcoming the several hurdles and obstacles that is confronted in
the course of professional advancement in a workplace.
Communication
An individual employee irrespective of the fact of being a leader or a follower is
expected to have excellent communication skills (Bannier 2016, p.80). From the
viewpoint of mine, the sole purpose of an individual in a professional field is to
identify the solutions required for a critical problem solving process.
Teamwork
3
Document Page
The teamwork is especially required for an individual, who has been presented a
responsibility to work within a team, led by an effective team leader. In such
situation, it is the duty of the team leader to explain the needful of the job to the
followers. Subsequently, my reflection in this regard is that the followers are
expected to understand the instructions of their leader and thereby progressing in
the job.
Self-management
This quality of self management is required for the purpose of managing the
prerequisite personal activities before initiating the actual job. This includes
preparing oneself before leaving for workplace. This preparation work is personally
managed in such a way that no time is wasted as well as the preparation is up to the
mark.
Willingness for learning
Throughout the entire course of academic learning, the individual learns several
tactics that is readily applied in the professional field. An individual is expected to
keep up this habit of learning even during the professional phase. In this regard, I
have acquired a personal feeling according to which, this willingness to learn helps
an individual to get involved in new challenges and thereby acquiring new skills for
professional growth.
Thinking skills
This thinking skill has a long lasting effect on the problem solving capacity of an
individual. As suggested by Benjamin (2016, p.200), a complex problem requires a
significantly high amount of thinking as compared to an easy problem, which
requires negligible or minimal amount of thinking. In addition to this, this skill of
thinking is also applied in case of decision making process.
Resilience
This essential employability skill of resilience helps an individual to accept the
changes that takes place in the workplace as well as the personal front. As per this
skill, the employees accept the changes that come on the way during the course of
the employment irrespective of the effects of such changes.

Implication of global citizenship
In the current era of globalization, the involvement between the individuals located
far apart from each other has been reduced significantly by the introduction of
technologies. This has resulted in the identification of the people living in the current
era as global citizens, rather than a citizen of a particular country. This globalization
has resulted in the extension of education as well as business beyond the boundary
of their physical location. This particular advancement has resulted in the sharing of
academic knowledge as well as professional skills between the individuals of
different countries using the online platform powered by the internet service. Among
these, the academic skills have facilitated in the overall development of an individual
from the perspective of knowledge acquiring as well as learning. As commented by
Capelleras et al. (2016, p.180), in terms of academic skill, the communication skills
are required for the purpose of effective learning as well as for the purpose of
knowledge accumulation.
From my personal viewpoint, I feel that students nowadays are more interested to
study in foreign universities. This is because, theses foreign universities have been
found to have better academic equipments for the benefit of the students as well as
the mentors. As suggested by Chen (2015, p.634), the popularity of the foreign
universities, mostly located in the developed countries, among the students of
developing countries have increased the number of sponsorships for the funding
purpose of such education steps. In addition to this, due to the popularity of this
culture of studying in foreign universities, these universities have started becoming a
hub of students across the world. As a result of globalization, the products of several
multinational brands have their customer base located across the different locations
of the world. From the viewpoint of my understanding, this further implies that the
individuals nowadays are getting a scope to try products having their origin far
outside of their country boundary.
On the contrary, I have observed that the professional skills have been helping the
companies to expand their business in the global context. As compared to traditional
times, the job prospects in the developed countries have increased exponentially
along with the advancement of the technology. As pointed out by da Silva Nogueira
and Rodrigues, (2015, p.632), the increased job prospects in foreign countries have
let the companies hire employees of the foreign land. In addition to this, concepts
5

such as outsourcing as well as off shoring have been steadily increasing the job
prospects on a worldwide basis. The concept of outsourcing implies the processing
of raw materials into desired outcomes of product in factories located in the
developing countries having the availability of cheap labor facility. This cheap labor
facility tends to decrease the overall production cost of the products. On the other
hand, the concept of off shoring is attributed to such companies, which shift their
entire operations department from one country to the other. This is in order to avail
the facility of relaxed rules and regulations of the country of shifting.
Skills and competences requirements from employees
Employment is required by an individual for the purpose of earning a livelihood. This
earning of livelihood in the form of suitable employment is essential for the purpose
of self support of an individual as well as the family of an individual. After completing
Graduation in the subject Human Resource, I have chosen Human Resource
Management (HRM) in a company organization. As commented by (DeVito, 2019,
p.18), an employer assess candidacy of a potential employee in terms of the
employability skills possessed by that individual. In this context, it is the sole
responsibility of the employer to assess the job role, for which appropriate
candidates is required. Such skills may be ideal for more than one job role. As a
result of which, the scope of employment for an individual having such skills
increases. A scope of employment helps an individual to gather the required
professional experience that is observed to be useful in case of employment
upgrading or employer changing.
It is the duty of the employer to identify the appropriate employees for the purpose of
a job role. It is observed that the graduate recruiters tend to select the potential
candidates for a job role based on their job skills as well as competencies. These
competencies include strength of adaptability present within a potential candidate.
Some of this individual skill includes People Management, Personal Development,
Leadership, Communication, Logical Reasoning and Transferable competencies,
Technical Competencies. These employer necessities have been discussed
following in brief:
People Management
6
Document Page
One of the principle requirements of an employer is to possess the necessary
capabilities for the effective management of the employees. This people
management is necessary for the effective management of the tasks allocated to the
team leader. The leader splits the task as per convenience and thereby allocates
these small modules to the employees based on the qualification. Personal
management involves training and development besides managing the performance
of the employees. This people management is carried out by the setting clear goals
by the leaders.
Personal Development
The process of personal development is extended throughout the lifetime of an
individual. As suggested by Hazelkorn (2017, p.19), the personal development of an
individual is the result of academic progress as well as professional progress. This
personal development is the subsequent result of regular assessing of the skills and
activities of an individual. This personal development helps in the maximization of
the potential of an individual employee working for a company organization. An
individual undergoes several sessions such as time re-evaluation as well as skills
appraisal.
Leadership
A potential employee is assessed for the possession of required leadership skills
such as communication skills, problem solving, and learning capacity by the
employee. This is because; the leaders are given the sole responsibility of handling a
problem-oriented situation by the effective application of the appropriate tools and
techniques. From my personal viewpoint, I feel that leaders need to apply the
different strategies for the purpose of handling a situation. Such strategies depict the
co-ordination of different business operations in terms of the problem solution.
Communication
The communication between the team members in a team is essential for the
smooth execution of the tasks assigned to that specific team. As commented by
Isaacs (2016, p.140), every individuals of the team has a different take on a
scenario. The effective medium of sharing such personal views is identified to be the
effective communication between the team members. Also, from my viewpoint, the
process of communication between the team members helps in the splitting of the
entire task and thereby distributing of these small modules among all the team
members.

Logical Reasoning
The logical reasoning skill helps an employee in the critical evaluation of a problem.
From the viewpoint of Leong and Ahmadi (2017, p.40), a problem oriented situation
essentially requires the critical evaluation by the application of logical reasoning skill
thereby facilitating the decision making process of the team, to which the
responsibility of problem solving has been presented to. From my personal
viewpoint, Logical reasoning includes methodical approach in addition to identifying
patterns and connections. This methodical approach suggests the use of appropriate
methods for the purpose of solving complex problems. On the other hand, the
identifying patterns and connections imply identification of the hidden information
from unprocessed data.
Transferable competencies
The transferable competencies are defined to be the competencies that have the
required capability of being portable in nature. As suggested by Morosini et al. (2017,
p.110), the transferable competencies include resourcefulness and trustworthiness.
Such resources are transferred from one industry to the other as per the scenario.
From my personal viewpoint, the advantage of resourcefulness is the generation of
innovative ideas for the purpose of efficient problem solving.
Technical Competencies
The technical competencies are identified to be the skill of working in an environment
powered by the computers. As opined by Sterling et al. (2016, p.90), the technical
competencies also include the personal quality of an individual to carry out a task in
the most creative way possible. This creative way includes devising of innovative
system in order to develop certain policies for the facilitation purpose of the
operations.

Conclusion
From this reflective summary, it is hereby concluded that the impact of
communication skill is not limited to academic or professional field. Rather it is an
inherent condition for becoming a responsible global citizen. It is thus recommended
from my viewpoint that in addition to the employees, the employers must also
possess an excellent communication skill to lead the employees.
