Reflective writing after making a presentation
I was doing a presentation about virtual reality headsets. During the preparations for the
presentation, I had researched well on the topic and outline everything I needed to present.
When it was time for me to present, I was nervous. It is a presentation in front of all the
classmates, and they might think that my performance was poor. However, as presenting was
mandatory, I gathered enough courage and was able to follow through all my presentation. I have
a good command of the language, and my communication was good besides a few times I was
out of words.
During the presentation, I was able to explain virtual reality handset in details. What it is,
its main features, how it works, its primary applications in the real world and both its advantages
and disadvantages. This was possible as I had done thorough research on the topic. On the
contrary, the presentation was not without its downside. After explaining a few how the VR
headset works, a fellow student raised a question that I had not anticipated, and I was not able to
sufficiently respond to them.
From the above presentation experience, I learned a few things that are important. It is
crucial to ask yourself questions beforehand so that you are caught unaware during the
presentations. Another essential aspect of a presentation is how authoritative you make your
presentation. Areas that I was very audible, clear and precise were well understood by the
students. When a question was directed to me, and I was not able to explain clearly, meant that I
was not well conversant with that subtopic. Being not able to handle the questions asked
impacted my presentation negatively (Harper, 2004).
In future, I would make some improvements. First and foremost, an essential thing I will
do is research on all the possible questions that might arise from my subject of the presentation.

Another thing I will do is do more practice so that I gain enough confidence during a
presentation. I do not want to feel unease again just because I am standing in a group of few
people.
Despite the few setbacks I had, visual aids helped me make my points clear. That was a
plus and means that during another presentation, I would use more visual tools than just
theoretical explanations (Davidson, 2010). Preparations before a presentation is a critical aspect
when it comes to presentations. Inadequate preparations mean poor delivery of the presentation
while thorough preparations mean great experience delivering the presentation to your set
audience.
