The case study examines the project's budget overruns, operational risks, and construction-related impacts, such as noise and vibration. The project aims to replace the ageing NSW regional rail fleet and build a new train maintenance facility in Dubbo. The assignment highlights the importance of risk management and provides recommendations to mitigate risks, including the implementation of a risk schedule. The project's benefits include improved safety, comfort, accessibility, and reliability for passengers traveling to regional centers. Feasibility Risk at Regional Rail Fleet Project
The feasibility study helps in identifying the conditions under which a project is
technically, financially and economically workable (PMBOK, 2017). The feasibility risk
related to the project is categorized into operational and construction risks. Some heritage are
damaged due to the construction work of the project. The risk are associated with the budget
blowout. The risk is also associated with the lack of tenders for the project. The site
associated with the regional rail fleet project experiences noise and vibration related impact at
the time of construction and operation of the project (JACOBS, 2018).
Causes of Feasibility Risk
The budget blowout occurs when the project expense exceeds the original budget.
Another reason for budget blowout is the poor risk management. Introduction of new
infrastructure that was not present in the planning of the project is the main cause for the hike
in the project. The cause of the operational risk is the poor maintenance and under utilisation.
Recommendations
The Regional Rail Fleet will provide benefits if all the risks are managed and
identified properly. All the identified risk should be avoided and proper research need to be
conducted. The expertise related to the project must have proper knowledge about the project
and the problems that can happen during the project. The maintenance department should
implement a risk schedule which will serve as a reminder for the project and will help in
avoiding the risks.
