I have acquired a sound knowledge of nursing care principles, procedures, and practices.
I have currently completed my BSC. Nursing from Tasmanian Health service, where I have
acquired several skills and how to provide relevant quality service in patient care. I have
acquired a sound knowledge of the nursing care principles, the procedures and practices
concerning Australian Nursing And Midwifery Council. I have acquired certifications in various
hospital departments such as the surgical ward, the maternity, rehab, operation theatre, Palliative
care wards, aged care, and Child care service’s an Enrolled Nurse, I have acquired the
knowledge and skills that are vital in my nursing role as a nurse where I have demonstrated my
nursing knowledge by offering patient care according to the principle of Evidence –Based care. I
have demonstrated my knowledge through cooperation with the in – charge nurses in developing
patients plans of care and implanting them as outlined using procedures and practices. I have
experienced the challenges encountered by nurses when offering care and have been delegated
duties as an assistant nurse and been exposed to patients in need of different types of care to
utilize all the knowledge and skills I have on my line of duty. I have been able to make the
medical diagnosis through which I have interacted with different patients and have been able to
collect diverse data from patients, their family members or caretakers to get the basics of making
the suitable nursing interventions, (Gulanick & Myers, 2016).All these lead to delivering of
quality service and care to the patients.
Ability to use sound interpersonal skills such as communication skills, and writing skills
I have acquired sound interpersonal skills such as communication skills, and writing skills. Other
Interpersonal skills acquired include problem-solving, compassion, management of personal
stress, having a positive attitude, and active listening. The active listening skill has enabled me to

get the patient’s medical history into the details for proper recording. Through verbal skills of
communication, I can seek information and clarification from a patient and make notes through
writing skills, (Stein-Parbury, 2019). This skill has helped me in conveying information to other
hospital departments from which the client requires service. I can clearly articulate words and
eloquently pass information to all stakeholders in a hospital to ensure Work Health, safety, and
Quality in the treatment process. Communication is a major skill that has enabled me to pursue
my health duties in different units through the dedication of self and optimum treatment of a
patient using both verbal and non-verbal cues, (Jebb, 2015). I have also gained the ability to
function effectively in the environment of a multidisciplinary team and learnt the skills of
enhancing multidisciplinary cooperation by liaising with fellow registered Nurses and other
health care professionals in the hospitals to meet the patient’s needs. For example, I have been
able to ask for radiology from the radiology department to investigate the potential problem with
a patient’s chest and offer quality care as a Registered Nurse. I have learned the skill of treating
patients with compassion and a positive attitude irrespective of their condition and have learned
that compassion heals, for it leads to the social welfare of a patient, (Delton, Petersen, DeScioli,
& Robertson, 2017). These skills have made it possible for me to keep the Required Nursing
Ethical Standards in my line of duty.
I have Skills and Knowledge for continuous quality improvement
I have acquired Knowledge needed for continuous quality improvement and have been able to
apply evidence-based practice in the practice setting. Quality and safety are what a client needs,
(Kelly, Vottero, & Christie-McAuliffe, 2014). This is part of the patient’s rights according to
nursing ethics and where there is safety, there is quality. I have learned various practices that
prevent harm towards a patient as an outcome of care. I can prevent harm and any adverse effects

on a patient through surveillance and coordination with other members. I can review every
patient's data and scrutinize it before any nursing activity to allow the evidence-based practice,
perform bar coding and research on the strategies needed to avoid medical errors and improve
the processes of care. I can assess and evaluate nursing care impact using positive quality
indicators and negotiate appropriate self-care of a patient and undertake the activities that lead to
the improved health status of the patient. Evidence-based practice is knowhow that has enabled
me to make well-founded decisions on any new medical patient care protocols, (Hall & Roussel,
2012). I can search the profiles of the patients by assessing their documented interventions where
I help in increasing the chances of recovery in a patient. Through EBP, I can identify the risks
associated with a certain diagnostic test and treatments of a patient, or the effectiveness. These
skills help in ensuring the right to safety and quality treatment of a patient and enables them to
proactively participate in their healthcare.
The ability to undertake the education of a client in the practice setting and participate in
my ongoing professional development
In my current position, I can undertake the education of a client in the practice setting and
participate in my ongoing professional development. I can educate patients on how to become
responsible towards their states of health by urging them to play an active role to enhance their
recovery. I have the skills of enabling them to comprehend their situation and what they should
do to reduce any complications associated with chronic illnesses. I do this comprehensively
using easy methods for a patient to comprehend all the details in the care set up, after
recognizing the strengths and weaknesses of a patient, (Mona N. Bahouth, Kay Blum, & Shari
Simone; MS; RN; CPNP-AC; APRN-BC; FCCM, 2012). Another strategy that I use to enhance
education includes the inclusion of family members, stimulation of the interest of a patient and

understanding their learning style. I can carry out the continuous development of my career
through daily practices of nursing in my learning set up. In the setup, I research various
diagnostic measures undertaken and evidence-based practice to ensure that everything goes in
line with the nursing codes.
